It's been a year since the tragic accident. Thanks for all your responses. One of my students lost his relative. Hence, it feels like I have lost someone of our own. I never thought such a thing could happen here in Mangalore. Even to this day, it all seems so unreal; couldn't sleep for days after I saw the remains on media. Let's pray for the families of the victims and hope that such things never happen again.
What can be said though is that, a catastrophe of such magnitude never occurs due to a single failure but is always a culmination of multiple failure sequence. Air travel however remains one of the safest modes of transportation. Incidents of this nature, however painful it might be, do not go in vain. It makes air travel safer for millions of air travelers all over the world.
Comments have also been made in different circles as to why there has been no May Day or distress calls. Aviators are trained to fly the aircraft first under emergency and then communicate if possible. That probably was what the two pilots were trying to do when disaster struck.
This air crash seems to bear similarity with the Air France crash at the Toronto Pierson Airport in 2005. However, it is improper and almost unfair to suggest at this stage that Pilot error may be involved, especially when the FDR and the CVR are yet to be analyzed and neither of the pilots are here to defend themselves.
The plane touched down 2000 feet after the normal touch down point.....I feel sad and grieve for the people who lost their lives in this crash for no reason of theirs.
Get the reservations(for SC and ST) out of the pilot selection systems.Thats how less qualified people get their hands on these hitech machine.....and here we go another plane crash.......sad really sad.....I hope we Indians really get to the bottom of this......though I am pretty sure our ministers will cover up...RIP
@nitinnitinnitinnitin I heard one of the pilots was British with 10000 hours and the other was some Ahaluwalia with 3000 hours of experience. The captain had landed their 18 times before this landing. I think that's a pretty good experience.
One of our minister(Mr.Veerappa Moily?....I dont recall properly) is once missed such tragedy at the same airport 18 or so years ago on old runway. It was the discussion from those days about this fatal airport.
This airport landing runway is always talk of the town from 20 years. However, the new runway was built in for international flights was still just enough was the new findings. One thing is clear there is no room left for the pilot to skid out in case of miscalculation.
i live in mangalore....and a lot of my family were supposed to be on that flight for so many reasons...but were persuaded otherwise....i am truly sorry for the losses that all the family's have suffered...i will pay my respects through a video soon.
Rest in peace and may God give strength to the families of the deceased,

it was a British pilot how was flying and one Ahaluwalia who is neither a SC nor ST so don't blame the selection system.
