I'm a painter myself, but although aware of Bacon's arresting images, I was quite ignorant of his thoughts about painting and I've found it quite helpful to hear them, particularly about the role of chance in painting as a door to greater profundity. He's extraordinary in his openess to encounter, express and be confident of what he finds behind that door.
