  • ..........difference in the audio and video synchronisation. It is not a lot but enough to get disturbed by. I seems ok on the recoreder itself but on my computer with 1 gig of ram the problems occurs. Well, hopefully you can answer my questions. Your video is great and yes................people should use a lot of light. :-)

  • @prince4sins The reason I asked about Handyshare was that in its early version it would cause problems with synchronization. It's my understanding that the latest version fixed this.

But I never use Handyshare, I simply copy the file to my computer and display it.

How do you get the file from your Q to your PC?

    Fran

  • @franguidry I open the folder in my computer having it connected to the computer by a usb port and simply drag the file, normally called zoom0001, onto mydesktop. I then open it in quicktime player. I watched some videos of Steve Vai and I see the same little disturbance. Handyshare is not that good I must say and it has the same defect for now. I read in the booklet something about Upgrading the firmware version. Maybe that will do it. I bought it last saturday.

  • @prince4sins Sounds like you're on the right track.

    Fran

  • Thank you very much! For the length of the video I must say that the batteries that came with the Q3 were half empty and I think that for saving batterie purpose the recorder switched itself off.

Now I have put uh, Nimh batteries and that problems is solved. I accidently formatted the scandisk but downloaded HandyShare software from the website, if that is what you mean.

Was there more on the disk than just HandyShare? Sorry for all the questions but I really see a small.......................

  • Hello! Thanx for the video. When I saw your video and this is really true, I decided to buy one myself because I had been looking for something for a long time. I have just got a few problems.

    1. When I record at the maximum video quality using 16 bit pcm setting, I cannot shoot more than 2 and a half minutes. Also when I upload it on my computer and watch it with quicktime it is not synchronised. I hope you can help me out. Thanx again.

  • @prince4sins Your shot time is determined by the size of the memory card you are using. If you're using the card that came with the camera it is very small. You should save this card for applying firmware updates and buy a larger card (4 GB or larger) for longer shots.

Are you using the included software as part of your process? That needs to be updated or not used.

    Fran

  • sanyo not bad~~~

  • nice video! but how does it compare to the ls 20m?. can i hook up my guitar effects pre amp like a pod direct into the line in?

  • @adiladil Assuming you mean the Olympus LS-20M I have no idea. There are other reviews and samples out there but I don't have the Oly nor any plans to get one.

If your POD is an instrument level device, you probably won't have enough signal level to go straight into the Q3HD - it has an over-sensitive line level in, but probably not high enough sensitivity to work with an instrument level signal.

    Fran

  • Why does my q3hd sound so shit?

  • @anonymouslolxD The Q3HD does a pretty good job of recording the sound that hits the mics. If you're unhappy with the recording, you need to improve the sound that hits the mic. That means improving the acoustics in the room, getting the mics (and therefore the camera) closer to the subject, and generating a sound that matches your expectations. Then to make sure none of the audio quality is lost, use a PCM audio format (uncompressed).

Or use a mic pre and external mics.

    Fran

  • @homebrewedmusic ..... I'm filming live shows with it.... You think the Q3HD can record with those mics and add another Mic (maybe a Shure Beta 52) in the line in and have a mix of both ? And I'm doing an interview with 2 bands tomorrow, should I buy a 1/8 XLR cable and plug my shure sm58 to it, for the interview only.... I just set the sounds from 192 to 320 Kbps.. Will it make a big difference...??? thx

  • @montrealhclive You definitely cannot mix the on-board mics with external mics. When you plug in an external source it turns off the on-board mics.

You can't plug a mic directly into the Line In port - Line In means it needs a preamp.

The change in audio from 192 to 320 will be subtle at best and probably inaudible. But if you want the best audio, choose PCM.

    Fran

  • Awesome job. Q3HD just cant be beat.

  • I'll pass. I happened to grab an AT825 for less than the Zi8 so I'm sticking with those. I must admit the Q3HD does very well here. Excellent demo as always!

  • It's no contest! I am buying the ZOOM as soon as I can!

  • @Losenger Just remember, I'm using a lot of light!

    Fran

  • Thanks so much for putting this together. I just bought a Q3HD and I'm reviewing my decision (always second-guessing myself). The audio is great IMHO, and there are limitations to what the video can do but all in all I'm starting to think it's a good package.

  • Fran, I'm thinking of buying this unit for a friend that is a tech Luddite but a fine guitarist that has never recorded himself. Is it simple to operate? I've had a few issues figuring out my H4n and want a basic point and shoot setup for him. I thought the zi8 onboard mic and video was decent. Which is easiest (less menu options) to use?

  • @nvguitarguy The Q3HD can be operated as a two button system - turn on power, press record to start - press record to stop, turn off power. The Zi8 can be operated the same way. This is normal for any consumer camera.

I prefer the clean audio of the Q3HD, but some folks prefer the edgier sound of the Kodak. The Zi8 is out of production, but there's a new model that is apparently similar.

With either system, the player will need to get the files to a computer to see them.

    Fran

  • great video my friend

  • The Sanyo Xacti HD2000 is pretty good!

  • @TheHornet79 A couple of years ago when the HD2000 was new it was reviewed as having the best low light performance among consumer camcorders. I really like mine and use it often, but I originally bought it because it had an external mic input and "manual control" of the audio - but that turned out to be useless because there's no metering, no clip indicator, and the audio is heavily processed under all conditions. So now I record audio on a Zoom when I shoot with the Sanyo.

    Fran

  • Your hard work and editing is well appreciated here friend and helped me decide to buy one. I bought a Q3 from Maplins and although mine was an odd rogue one that froze (at 11 secs at times) and and got too warm, it was exchanged (after speaking to Zoom's repair engineer on the phone). I am well impressed with it and record all the bands I sound engineer for (even filmed a McCartney concert). Sound is stunning and picture is great under decent light. As ever, always make sure good light anyway.

  • Thank you a lot Fran!

  • Very, very useful. Thanks for posting this.

  • Fran, I just got this recorder as a Christmas gift. Your video has spectacular quality; I'm curious, are your settings on auto or do you have it customized? Is it set to 1080p? Thanks!

  • @codymcwvu Hi, Cody,

The trick is lots of light. I have about around 500 watts equivalent going when I shoot in the studio. I'm using CFLs with a color temperature similar to tungsten, 2700 Kelvin if I remember right. When I set out to learn how to improve my videos I wound up researching lighting for still photography as much as for video.

This video was shot at 720 using default setting.

    Fran

  • Nicely put together review, perhaps one of the best I have ever seen. Nice playing, btw.

  • nice video n smile...

  • Thank you for this review and comparison. Now you helped to somebody from Russia! :)

  • @aostapenko Thanks for that very kind comment. I do feel lucky to live in a world where we can help each other across miles and cultures and time.

    All the best to you,

    Fran

  • fantastic review, thanks.

  • THANKS

  • Cool video ---I won some money in a poker game last summer so picked up a Q3HD to record all my live shows with... it definitely delivers in the sound department ---especially for picking up the bass.

You mentioned that the Q3HD doesn't have a zoom? Ironic since it is made by "ZOOM"... but I assume you meant that it only has a digital zoom, right?

  • @theBeatoffs Right, I don't count digital zoom because I can do the same thing in post.

    Fran

  • @franguidry Ah, I thought so.

Have you had any problems with your Q3HD at all?

Mine froze up a few times, but I found a software update on their homepage...

I'm hoping that will sort out that little bug.

  • @theBeatoffs I had some issues but it turned out to be the memory card. Since I replaced the junk card I haven't had any problems.

    Fran

  • Je viens juste de le recevoir, sans rien régler, rien toucher, premier enregistrement....juste pour donner une impression de la bête...prochain test en concert et avec réglage !

  • Much more clarity with the ZOOM!!

  • great comparison! I like the new q3...i have a kodak zi8 and a zoom h2, but every time i must to make the editing to mix the video and the audio...Wich external mic do you use for the zi8? And is possible to connect the zoom h2 to zi8? Thank you very much, d

  • The Q3HD records better in my opinion. It sounds less tinny and has fuller and better bass.

  • @noipee I certainly agree with you.

    Fran

  • @homebrewedmusic i have just bought a zoom q3hd and when i record the video looks very grainy if you know what i mean it looks like sephia is on, (the camera effect) can help me?

  • @joeyjuniorjunior All I can suggest is _more_ _light_!! I use a _lot_ of light for my videos, maybe 500 equivalent watts in all.

What are you shooting? Under what conditions? How does it look if you shoot outside in the sunlight?

    Fran

  • @franguidry i havnt tried out side yet but, i have been playing with it more and im starting to figure it out, could you tell me how to work the sound and video options from the menu?? mabey you could message me? thanks for the help

  • @joeyjuniorjunior I'm not sure what I could tell you. I shoot with all the defaults, I don't think there's any reason to change them, so there's no need to go into the menu except to format the SDHC card.

    Fran

  • @franguidry ok thanks for your help, im getting better with i have only had it a few hours, i will do it soon

  • @noipee I like to get one but It's still pricey :(

  • Yeah man I found that incredibly useful. If that ZoomQ3HD had a front-facing screen I'd buy it right now. I use the Zoom H4 for audio and it kicks ass as well. By the way, your guitar playing makes me hate my guitar playing. Subscribed!

  • @mikeperaltamusic That lack of a front facing screen is certainly a big minus. I guess they had to save something for a future upgrade.

I enjoyed the radio show clip you posted, I think we're doing very different things with the guitar. Back when I was trying to be a songwriter my style was much different.

    Fran

  • Great review! Best regards from Sweden :)

  • @swepix Thanks very much for stopping by and commenting.

    Fran

  • my recording volume on the q3nhd as in when i play back and on real player is very low , can you advise ? i have the vol turned up fully

  • @forinstance872 Getting enough volume is a big issue for all home recordists, it seems. The only way I know to get a louder signal with the mics is to get the mics closer to the source. Check my video on the stick-on wide-angle lens for one way to do this. Alternatively, you can adjust the level in post production in most video editing programs. I like to use REAPER audio editor to adjust the audio of my video clips.

    Fran

  • wonderful review and audio video comparison! zoom q3hd wins ! exemplary playing as well!

  • the Zoom Q3 wins hands down. There is no buzzing sound what so ever from it. And the tone is awesome. Great sound, great playing!

  • First off, great review and great guitar playing. Beautiful sound. I am now thinking of getting the Zoom Q3HD. Thanks for the awesome review.

  • This is an excellent shootout between these cameras! Thank you very much. You brought me clsoer to making up my mind about which cam I'm going to get. So far, the Zoom seems to be taking the lead. Thanks again!

  • @VenVile If you want clean audio and you don't want to record in parallel, with a separate audio system, the Zoom is just about unbeatable. But if you're willing to do the sync in post production, if you're going to be editing anyway, There might be some other cams that do a better job in some ways. With HD video in so many point and shoot cameras, the choice is still "interesting."

    Fran

  • Thank you so much for making this review! This was really useful. I mean it. Now it's clear that Q3HD is worth it.

  • @AlecNsk I think the Zoom engineers and marketing research folks did a wonderful job of turning their technologies into added value. Flip, for instance, was unable to stay in the race when cell phones became pocket HD cams. The Zoom team not only stayed in the race, they've put a premium price on their commodity video cam.

    Fran

  • REALLY great review, you covered all the topics that anyone should need to make their decision. the tests were fantastic and made the choice pretty obvious.

    subscribed! cheers :)

  • @pbgangsta I'm gratified that you found the comparison useful.

    Fran

  • I believe this to be such a good way to compare products of this nature. I have not seen a similar comparison which is so equal and fair. My compliments to you.

  • @docludi Thanks very much for stopping by and commenting.

    Fran

  • Thanks-I Know its not huge bucks for many people but is a major purchase for me and have spent a good few hours looking at reviews and yours was excellent and as somone else said 'down to earth'. P.s Like your playing-sounds like an open tuning?

  • @sonnyboywalter Glad the clip was helpful. Yes, my playing is Hawaiian slack key, which is an altered tuning style. I'm usually using open G, as I did in this clip.

    Fran

  • Thank you!

  • Awesome review!

  • beautiful.. i didnt like the sanyo.. but the Q3HD was beautiful colour wise even the sound was clean i could hear the bass so well.. thank you.

  • WOW Q3HD the winner

  • Just an FYI, I bought a Sony Bloggie recently to record band rehearsals. The audio I found surprisingly good! I would keep the camera, except it switches off every 29 minutes (and has to cool down for 15 minutes) because of overheating issues. This was according to SONY, and that is just not acceptable. However, the sound was really good for such a tiny camera. The Q3 and Q3 HD have a 100 dollar price difference so now I am trying to decide between the two..

  • @CyrilAndPriscilla FYI, The Q3HD also has a similar overheating problem, but you can deal with this by just exchanging the 2 hot AA batteries for new, cool batteries every ~30 mins.

  • @AdmiralNeeda Thanks for the suggestion! I finally did buy a Q3HD. I also bought the AC adapter, and haven't had heating issues with that. If I ever need to use AA batteries, I'll pay attention to the heating issues. Thanks.

  • Hi Fran--

Thanks so much for the prompt reply!

If you don't mind, I have one last question for you:

Do you know what the difference between the Zoom Q3 and the Zoom Q3 HD is practically speaking with regards to sound? Theoretically, the sound captured should be the same, with the only difference being the video quality but I was wondering if you personally noticed any difference between the Q3 and the Q3HD with regards to sound? As you might imagine, I am looking into purchasing...

  • @CyrilAndPriscilla I've never used a Q3. You can probably find samples of both on YT maybe? As you say, the Zoom literature makes it seem likely that they're essentially the same. Read the Zoom info carefully and watch for differences in the wording and maybe you'll get a clue to any differences.

    Fran

  • Actually, my more relevant question is: Given your obviously great experience in audio recording, what is, in your opinion: (1) The best product using on-board mikes (2) The best-- high end-- setup for audio music recording? Thanks again for your input!

  • @CyrilAndPriscilla My experience is really quite limited. I've never owned a high end video camera, that is, one with XLR inputs and good preamps. These cost over $2000 and go way up from there, and I'm still well below that in my budget.

For audio recording, you can audible transparency for a remarkably small investment. I like Echo Audio interfaces, but there are many that work well. Spending more money brings more features but not more audible quality to my ear.

    Fran

  • Hi Fran-- Thanks for this great review! I was wondering, though, personally, which of the three used with their onboard mikes did you like the best? For my ears, the Sanyo seems rather weak and tinny compared with the other two, but I can't make up my mind about which has a better sound between the Zi8 and the Zoom. What are your thoughts? (This is using the internal mikes, mind you.)

  • @CyrilAndPriscilla To my ear the Zoom is definitely superior. The Kodak is compressed which makes it sound louder and punchier, but it's more distorted and less accurate. The Zoom sounds a little boring but it's much more accurate and will deliver better sound under a wider range of conditions and provides much better raw material for post processing.

    Fran

  • Nice review!

  • thnk u for demostrating 4 us this simple yet important details of this quipments

God blesss more blessings and have a good health.......thnk u once again sir

  • Hey Brother, can you tell me how to manually Focus the Zoom Q3HD camera

  • @sitehost No, I certainly can't. It's a fixed focus lens so there isn't any focus function at all.

    Fran

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks, Fran. BTW, enjoyed the video tremendously - your manner, your playing, the commentary. Thanks for posting!:)

  • What kind of battery life do you get with full HD?

  • @paulparoma Sorry, I usually use the AC adapter for long sessions. I haven't tried running down the batteries to see how long they'll last.

    Fran

  • I can't believe the zoom uses rechargeable AA

  • the audio of the Zoom is the best and has no noise. the sanyo has a lot of noise. Am I right?

  • @paulgaudinjrBCN I agree with you. The Sanyo has a pretty loud noise level due to the auto-level, and hit has rolled off low frequencies as well.

    Fran

  • the audio of the Zoom is the best and has no noise

  • I prefer to use PCM audio. I use an 8 or 16 GB card so space is not much of a concern. The batteries that came in your recorder must have been old. You should be able to record for an hour or two on regular high quality AA batteries.

    Fran

  • And tell me are you using in AAC/192???

And another thing that i have some probems is that im using the AA Alkaline batteries that comes with the camcorder, and they goes down faster i think i record only 5 minutes with this batteries, is there any tips to long life batteries?

  • Hello Sir, can you tell me the settings are you using on this video for the Q3HD??? because i don´t have that resoluttion using it on my enviroment!!! thank you!!!

  • @sabbadius I shot this at 720/30. The first thing I would look at to get better images is _more light_. These shots were done with a lot more light than you might think.

    Fran

  • @franguidry Thank you very much Fran, im watching all your videos... thank you for all this good information about this camcorder!! thanks!!!

  • This was extremely helpful! :) Thank you so much... I'm about to "add to cart" my new Q3 and can't wait to play with it... now i have to figure out how to mic my guitar using the line out (that's even if i need it... The built in is most likely going to be more than sufficient) ... THANKS!

  • @Russee777 I hope you have a lot of fun with your new camera. I'm working on another project looking at getting closer with the Q3HD, and also on tweaking the audio in REAPER. So hopefully I can help you avoid having to use the Line In port. But if you have to go with external mics it's not too hard, really.

    Fran

  • Thanks for this video. I'm a musician who recently picked up the Q3HD because of it's sound capabilities. Actually this video helped me in making that decision. I haven't had a chance to test it with live music yet, however I was able to record some fireworks from up close the other night.

Search for "Zoom Q3HD Test during firework show" or just look on my page.

The 53 second video was shot with the gain set at high

and the 2:11 video was shot with the gain set at auto.

  • @MichaelFugittmusic I listened to the first one with headphones and the sound almost made me forget I wasn't actually at the firework show myself. How close were you?

  • you have a hell of a mug

  • thank you very much for the demo

  • Thanks so much for taking the time to do this comparison. You put an awful LOT of work into this entire video and we all sure appreciate it! GREAT JOB! Well, it's the ZOOM for me!

  • Thanks for posting this...I got the Zoom Q3HD solely for the pupose of the Line In feature

  • great job. the colours just come alive with the zoom q3hd. Its the clear winner.

  • @mojoefly Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

    Fran

  • Is the Q3HD superior in sound quality to the Q3 or just picture quality. Thanks

  • @TomWrightTheDrummer I couldn't answer for certain because I've never used a Q3. But the specs and features look exactly the same, so it would be reasonable to assume they're the same.

    Fran

  • @franguidry thanks a lot for the fast response, it's appreciated. I was also interested to know; Zoom claim that an H4n is built into the Q3, however a H4n ALONE is around $300, whereas the Q3 is only about $150 (supposedly with a built in H4n) how can this be? Thanks again.

  • @TomWrightTheDrummer Read their claim again - "The Q3 uses the same microphone capsules as our industry-leading H4n"

    Fran

  • Great Job. Your playing sounds sweet and the review couldn't have been set up or delivered any better. What a service Bro! Thank you!

  • I'd like to see this test in comparison to Creative Labs VADO HD (3rd generation) camera.

  • Good video.

Nice to hear three different types of sound.

Like som other that comment. I think that the Kodiak Zi8 sounded very jouful. It hade more resonant then Zoom that sounded moody and whit out life. If record in a big concert hall then maybe that's ok, but you are going to lose some of the live felling

  • So this Zoom has no Zoom function?

  • @DuxJerome Well, it has a digital zoom, but the result is the same as "zooming" in post production. I suppose it would be useful if you're not doing any editing but just uploading straight from the camera.

    Fran

  • @franguidry. I see. Only bigger pixels. No optical zoom.

Thanks. I ordered one anyway. The audio is the most important feature for me.

  • @franguidry I'm not sure, actually it has a bigger sensor (5MP) than is needed for even "full HD" (which is about 2MP), which means that it can zoom at least partially just by reframing, with no loss of "true" resolution and sharpness. I think that in 720p mode (which is less than 1MP) it can reach the max 4x zoom while keeping an optimal image quality. By the way, I prefer the sound from Kodak ZI8 to that of the Sanyo (too much echo, sounds thinner) ; the Zoom is way better than both.

  • Thank you for this video. Big help!

  • For an audiophile your audio levels on this video are horrendous!

  • @OMGrant Sorry, I don't recall ever presenting myself as an audiophile. Regardless, I'm not clear on your complaint. What should I have done differently with the levels?

    Fran

  • Thanks for such a good and informative review. And very nice guitar playing. Regarding the onboard mics, I think the Zi8 sounded better than the Q3HD although with the stereo mic & preamp set the Q3HD was best.

  • thnk u sir i want q3 hd now God bless have a good day and good health

  • I would love your opinion on the Kodak Playtouch, audio and video.

    Compare to the Zoom Q3Hd

    Great comparison too!

    Thanks

  • Wow thanks for the video! I'm about to finish college so i'll have a lot more time on my hands and i fully intend on picking up my new guitar (Signature Mikael Akerfeldt PRS guitar. Grad present hehe) and playing a whole lot more. I've been and on and off player for 5 years and I've decided to really get back into playing. I was looking into recording devices and was zeroing in on the ZOOM. Now that i've seen this I'm sold. Thanks again for posting! Really helped

  • Ok heres my take! Q3 hands down pretty much all round. For internal mics, Kodak & Zoom pretty much on par. Sanyo, noisy!

As for line input Q3 hands down! Kodak was noisy, Sanyo even noisier. Zoom, VERY good and for the $ its the best.

    I am getting 1!

Thanks for this Mr Home brew! I brew beer too & play guitar!

  • great review! thank you!

  • Great review,

It seems that the Sanyohas a bit noise background, and the Kodak and the zoom has a more clearr\ definition sound. =)

  • Thank you for your review. :)

  • Thank You for a great review .. My Q3HD is on its way.. as a composer / entertainer.. this will work great for me.. oh by the way you play very well .... my regards.. Totally Kenny...

  • This video has helped me tremendously, and your playing has me smiling. Thank you sir.

  • hmmm, the audio of the other two (sanyo and kodak) seemed better to me, the zoom was way too muffled but then again the video was much better, i was looking at the compressiong blocks on the wall in the background as a reference and the zoom definitely seemed to excel their

  • @professorlamp In one sense this is all subjective - what you like is what you like. But it is possible to gauge things somewhat objectively by comparing them to the subject - of course I'm the only one who knows what that sounded and looked like.

But based on that, the Zoom audio was miles better than the others. And the Sanyo video also much more true to life.

    Fran

  • @professorlamp And I'm afraid that judging compression artifacts in clips that have been processed first by Edius then by YouTube isn't the best way to evaluate cameras. Next time I will definitely make the original clips available.

    Fran

  • This was very informative, thank you.

  • Hi...I had a Canon HF R100 which also has a Line In...but I didn't like its low light capabilities...Of these 3, which one do you like best in low light conditions...it seems like the Sanyo has less color saturation...I can't find it anywhere for sale...

  • @KrlosRodz The Xacti is the 2009 low light champ and is easily the best in this group. I chose a very neutral white balance for the shot and did no color adjustment, so it is less saturated than the others. It is in fact the most accurate, however. But it's out of production, only available through Ebay or NOS sellers.

The 2010 low light champ is the Panasonic TM700. Coincidentally, Panasonic bought Sanyo just before the TM700 came out.

    Fran

  • @homebrewedmusic Thanks!!! The Panasonic is pretty expensive though!!! I'll see if I can find a NOS Sanyo...

  • @KrlosRodz The audio input on the Xacti is pretty unsatisfactory, I'm afraid. It's definitely not a line in, it's a mic input with a fair amount of bass cut and some auto-level processing. It allows you to set the sensitivity, but there's no metering, so you have to do test shots to get your level in the ball park. I had high hopes for the Xacti audio features, but it was disappointing on that regard.

    Fran

  • q3hd ftw

  • very useful, thanks mate.

  • Was checking the Zoom Q3HD on amazon and browsed on the net and found your video and it's been really helpful, Thanks.

  • Hoooly shit!!! The zoom is the best! No coments!!!!

    I'll buy tomorrow!!!

    Really thanks for the video!!!

  • @ArthurMarden Just remember, the Zoom has no optical zoom, and it needs plenty of light.

    Fran

  • subscribed!

  • Finaly a review, I was looking for! Thanks so much!!! Great review!

  • Very informative video. I am a musician looking to purchase a video recorder with a good mic. I am more concerned with the audio quality then the video. I'll be needed it to record myself to send into professional auditions. How would you rate the Q3hd's audio quality on the louder end of things? Thank You!

  • @norasopmap I wish I could help, but I just never record loud sources. Almost always limited to solo acoustic guitar instrumentals. But in that situation there's _lots_ of headroom, I'm in the range of -24 dBFS for my average level, and peaks are usually below - 16 dBFS. And this is on the high gain mode. The low gain mode knocks the sensitivity down substantially.

    Fran

  • @norasopmap I am the happy owner of a Q3HD. I tried for a concert, the automatic mode to adjust the sound to have no distortion, I've never had a problem of distortion quality is superb, I do not think it is limited to sound level forts.Par cons may need to use software to amplify the sound a bit for some files. For professional audio recording, I recommend it! Crowns me for my English, I'm French!

  • @erwile Thanks! Good to know

  • @norasopmap Firstly, thanks for this video, it's very informative. Pro quality review.

Also, look at mikeportnoydt1's channel. He has live video's of him drumming with the Q3(maybe not HD) right in the drumset live at AX7 shows. The cymbals sound washy, but overall the camera performs even in such an extreme environment.

"LOST" Original Rock Folk song video using ZOOM Q3HD

  • Q3HD all the way! :)

  • Can you use the Q3 or Q3HD as a mic itself? I mean, if you connect its line-out with the mic plug in you computer, can you directly record the audio to your computer with the zooms as the mic?

  • @krazYFaic You can do that. You should connect to the Line In port of your computer. If you use the Mic input on your computer the quality will be degraded.

  • @franguidry I see. Thanks. BTW, is this just for the Q3HD or can the Q3 do this as well?

  • @krazYFaic Since I'm talking about using the headphone/line out, I'm pretty sure the Q3 will work the same way.
