I'm just getting into some rap music... but I hate the mainstream stuff because the lyrics are awful.. and the songs are always about getting high, getting laid, driving shiny cars, "popping" someone in the head and in the middle of it all they're usually are saying "fuck, fucking, fucking shit, or fuck dat shit" every other word..
Anything else with good lyrics? I like It's Tricky by RUN DMC for example..
Good vid man...I grew up loving both rap and metal (more on the metal side though i.e old Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Lamb of God, Death, CoB, Dying Fetus, Iron Maiden etc) but I also loved Tupac Biggie, Jay-Z when they rapped about things that I could relate too also (growing up dirt poor, drugs, cartels ...I lived in Mexico half my life) They both offer a release from all the bullshit in this world man

I completely agree, I am a metal head and I play in a metal band, but I love old rap like 2pac, some 50 cent, eminem, dmx and things like that. It used to tell stories. It made sense and really reached out to the listeners. Just as the whiny "screamo" bullshit that happens today when some emo kid picks up a guitar and thinks they are hot shit. Way I see it, only about two years ago I began to like 'Metal' (e.g. Metallica, A7X, Slayer, Machine Head). Then I got into Metalcore right after that (e.g. As I Lay Dying, Atreyu, Killswitch Engage). Now I love it all, mostly Deathcore, Death Metal, and Grindcore. Before that, i listened to rap and never thought i'd be where i am. I never gave metal a chance because i was too fucking ignorant. But to be fair, i still like rap. But its helped me branch into every other genre w/o discrimination..
@KayvaanMatos ,B.o.B, RZA, etc.,etc. just to name a few that plays instruments. Btw, I'm a rock /metal fan (Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Dream Theater, Old Metallica, etc.) There is no such thing as a genre that does not take talent.

When it comes to rap, I just feel as though it contains meaningless lyrics mostly, demeaning women, and talking about how much money they have. They also usually have no instrumental talent. however, a lot of metal and rock bands do the same thing. My two favorite guitarists are Tosin Abasi of Animals as Leaders, and Marc Okubo of Veil of Maya and they are both black. Not only are they extremely technical and talented, but created and on the top of their genre.
It's funny, because I was just telling a friend how much Lil Wayne was disconnected from his culture. I don't like rap, and it's not because i'm white. I feel like music should have some sort of positive aspect in life, and if not positive, at least some amount of seriousness. When all the mainstream rappers talk about selling cocaine, and they play that shit on the radio, i get offended because they make it seem like drugs are a game with no consequences, and kids start to believe it too.

I dont have a specific genre that I like anymore I prefer rap but now I listen to pretty much everything now but what I will say rap sucks now simply because all the rappers rap about the same thing money girls etc its annoying but you listen to the 80's, 90's to early 2000's a lot of those rap songs used to make a story that you could relate to and the lyrics just about anyone could listen to it

I agree with him on the fact that some rap is really good and its meaningful, and yes some rap artists have had horrible lives. but i know tons of rock/metal etc artist that have had a super fucked up lives. @YourFaceIsALlama To be perfectly honest, both genres of music have literally saved lives. It's all preference and socialization. On the most basic level both genres deliver a message, and that's it. I promise you rappers could find a message they agree with, and vice-versa. Skill is one thing, talent is another, and then there is money... Music in any genre has a mesage, it's all about what YOU want to hear.

Of course it was adopted by a large amount of whites, but Rock and Roll began with Blues in the south of the united states with African American communities. Not rockbands, but some of the biggest 40s, and 50s guitarists are all black. Probably the biggest guitarist in the rock genre was Jimi Hendrix (who was black). He played funk, psychedelic, and rock.

Way I see it, only about two years ago I began to like 'Metal' (e.g. Metallica, A7X, Slayer, Machine Head). Then I got into Metalcore right after that (e.g. As I Lay Dying, Atreyu, Killswitch Engage). Now I love it all, mostly Deathcore, Death Metal, and Grindcore. Before that, i listened to rap and never thought i'd be where i am. I never gave metal a chance because i was too fucking ignorant. But to be fair, i still like rap. But its helped me branch into every other genre w/o discrimination..

When it comes to rap, I just feel as though it contains meaningless lyrics mostly, demeaning women, and talking about how much money they have. They also usually have no instrumental talent. however, a lot of metal and rock bands do the same thing. My two favorite guitarists are Tosin Abasi of Animals as Leaders, and Marc Okubo of Veil of Maya and they are both black. Not only are they extremely technical and talented, but created and on the top of their genre.

It's funny, because I was just telling a friend how much Lil Wayne was disconnected from his culture. I don't like rap, and it's not because i'm white. I feel like music should have some sort of positive aspect in life, and if not positive, at least some amount of seriousness. When all the mainstream rappers talk about selling cocaine, and they play that shit on the radio, i get offended because they make it seem like drugs are a game with no consequences, and kids start to believe it too.

Of course it was adopted by a large amount of whites, but Rock and Roll began with Blues in the south of the united states with African American communities. Not rockbands, but some of the biggest 40s, and 50s guitarists are all black. Probably the biggest guitarist in the rock genre was Jimi Hendrix (who was black). He played funk, psychedelic, and rock.
