at 29 years old and after 11 years 6 of them as a meat manager all i have to say if you are a teen or early 20s and wanting to be a meat cutter stay in school or join the army all my buds that joined the service when we were kids are all workin for like bell chopper,CAT,or the rail road making 40 an hour

@iadeftones as a meatcutter in pa i get paid 9.50 after my raise. lol im sure its more than that but i had to learn and when i did i got a 75 cent raise

@Apolloisbest ya me to chief they finally gave me another raise but a 50 cent raise so 10 is where im at but i only have to walk 5 houses down to work. i guess i have to look on the brightside of things..

WinCo pays a topped out cutter 19.84 and will go up one dollar in 2011. Im 23 and just bought my first house. Good job for someone who has no degree. Oh and my ESOP is up to 45 k after 4 years!

Im a butcher from Australia...Supermarket butchers dont bone out Carcass meat anymore..its a lost trade...I suggest a small retail shop but you wont have a union and could work more hours than a supermarket. ITs a good trade to fall back on..Im a janitor in a school now but i still have my trafe to fall back on if i need it

I'm a butcher...it's a good living for where i am. $25.00/hr. It's great for where i live..low cost of living in not too small of a town. Hard work. It's physical. My wife laughs cause she hears comments about how butchers are a sexy trade to other women and they don't know that she's married to one. Manly work i guess.

I used to be a butcher for 4 years, but here in South Texas they only pay minimun wage, and most supermarkets dont give you any benefits.

That is pretty low, Have you applied at HEB in Texas? If you are skilled you should be making $18 to $20+ Krogers, Food-4-Less, Safeway...lots of good stores out there.

well, i did infact applied at an HEB but the thing is that here were i live they start you off with like $12 and don't even give you 40 hours... its kinda sad.

That is pretty sad, I see on the Missouri Job service web sight meat cutters starting at $16+ depending on experience. Costco had an ad for $19 hr in Kansas City.

I left meat cutting after 20+ years and went to work for Energizer Battery for $17 hr. It was a cut in pay but no weekend or holidays was worth it. Lots of draw backs to the grocery industry anyway. Probably a blessing koman, find something that gives you a life on the weekends & with your family.

@999Atwood Couldnt have said it better.That is exactly what I am trying so hard to do right now.13 years cutting meat,my company just busted all meat cutters back to meat wrappers.5 dollar /hr pay cut.No more than 30 hrs a week.I would take a pay cut ANY day. Weekends with family.GOLDEN!!!!

if it wasn't for butchers, my dogs would just have dog food to eat. I get boxes of meat scraps for free from butchers in my town.

Did you even read my comment? I meant that my dogs eat raw meat that I get from butchers. Raw meat is more healthy for them than commercial dog food. With raw meat, I know what I'm feeding them. With dog food I don't, it contains fillers, chemicals and sometimes other dead dogs and cats (meat by products).
