'There was widespread discussion at the time that the Thatcher government had been politically motivated in changing the rules specifically to enable them to end Thames's licence because of the award winning 1988 documentary, “Death on the Rock” where Thames TV exposed the British government’s murder of three Irish republican volunteers in Gibraltar in 1988.
Nevertheless, there was no international outcry about “censorship”, or claims that Thatcher was a dictator.'
why does he say to other countries that he saved freedom of speech? because he forced all the channels to be state-owned. Now his government controles all TV media... except Globovision because it's in Miami.. this channel had 3 owners.. one he forced him to quit, last week one of them was put to jail by Chavez and the other one doesnt want to come anymore to Venezuela.. one time Chávez closed 34 radio channels in a row because they "didn't follow the revolution"! =/
@kastie all chanels state owned? are you fucking with me, its only 33% of the media. the whole capitalist media in venezuela basicly calling chavez a puppy kicking bastard in loop. even fox news is not that savage on obama.
@crusader651 how the fuck can you know that man? read this very carefully: YOU LIVE IN CANADA. Don't worry about Venezuela when YOU LIVE IN CANADA. everybody in venezuela wants to go to canada and live there... if you defend Chavez government that much come live here and see it by yourself ... wow i gotta hate brainwashed blondies,,
@crusader651 i study social communications.. i have friends that interviewed the guy that was responsible about Chavez learning all those things about socialism, fidel, etc. His name is Douglas Bravo. He admitted that Chavez got paid to be president and teach the country about socialism and communist thoughts.. if it wasn't Chavez it was gonna be Francisco Arias Cardenas or other people who studied with him.. or Douglas Bravo.. he admitted it.. it's all lies man..
@kastie ........ he got paid? you mean, rich people would pay somebody to.. seize their property and create a government in favor of the poor? you mean... the united states which has so much wealth, is too stupid to bribe chavez?do you understand how.. fucking impossible it is. i mean seriously i've heard a shitload of you anti-cuban and anti-chavez people just inventing fucking stupid stories it's pathetic. at least i don't invent family in venezuela telling me how worker democracy is awesome.
@crusader651 the "government in favor of the poor" is a strategy to stay in power for a long time.. it's called "populismo". Like Perón and Fidel. Chavez is rich... he got paid to get socialism into the country.. socialism is something that was never taught in Venezuela.. Douglas Bravo and other 2 guys from the guerrilla infiltrated into the academia militar venezolana to brainwash Chavez, Arias, Cabello, and all of them... Chavez or Bravo r never gonna let that to be known in other countries.
@kastie brainwashing happens to children or people in a prison/island . i know douglas criticize chavez from the left, and taht it is very possible for politician to talk socialist rhetoric to stay in power, but who would bribe chavez for that? wouldn't the right opposition give him a much larger check?
August 2009: Reporters Without Borders denounced the closure of "thirty four broadcast media at the government's behest" in Venezuela. The organization "vigorously condemns the massive closure of broadcast media" and asks: "Is it still possible to publicly express any criticism at all of President Chavez's government? This massive closure of mainly opposition media is dangerous for the future of democratic debate in Venezuela and is motivated by the government's desire to silence dissent."
The person who uploaded this video has done something very dishonest - he/she has omitted the fact that this clip is from a film done in 2002. The situation in Venezuela has changed dramatically since then. In the past two years, after having granted himself new "constitutional" powers, Chavez has been restricting and closing down the private media. Comparing Venezuela 2002 to Venezuela 2010 is like comparing Germany 1933 with Germany 1941.
if there was censorship, like we have in Europe, those stations would have been closed down a long time ago, They dont know abt censorship, We do in Germany and Europe, we have ultimate state control, state propaganda and state interference, Chavez is a light in the tunnel, Why dont u go and live in Europe, where repression is subtle and complete, Every step you take is being recorded,
Yeah right you ass hole! All the media that talked against the dictator has been closed! Chavez is a Crazy dictator and Venezuela is going to suffer like the cubans.
chavez es un estupido , payaso , copicat de los Castro ...inculto, lo bueno es que el solo se pisa la lengua de vaca que le hace decir lo que quisiera callar
Chavez+Censura =Comunismo =miseria y opresion .....
yeah but reality doesnt matter in the US, we believe whatever the mainstream media says, and don't look outside our comfortable bubble even to see if were headed toward certian doom. The citezenry are no weaker minded than any human being naturally of course. This is what happens to homosapiens when you destroy the mechanisms of education, and fill their minds with media bs, and force the 50 hour workweek on them, its self evident, and hateful.
