the late great Ernie "The Cat" Ladd was a BAD DUDE! x0[ ...my Dad & i went to an International Wrestling Association show in Roosevelt Stadium, New Jersey c.1975 & witnessed a classic wrestling match between Ladd & the IWA Champion Mil Mascara!..(Mascaras won the match)...great event! =0]
I love the Big Cat. He once told Tony Atlas he was going to send him back to Africa. I am Black and even I was cracking up when he said it. Those were the days when wrestling was fun.
To yimpka:Ernie Ladd graduated from Grambling State University, and I KNOW THAT 2 B A FACT because my mom n dad had classes with him at that college. My father still has the yearbooks 2 prove it.I'm not tryin 2 b mean, but only speak WHAT U KNOW!!
Man I never got 2 c Ernie in action in his career. But these YouTube clips r the truth!!! The big cat ain't no joke!! He sound like Fred Sanford callin Andre a dummy!! Man I wish I coulda seen ladd wrestle. He coulda taught a promo class
@saracen3000 Ah.....shit, son. You know it. These Ernie Ladd clips on the You ain't just the truth. They be the truth in a motherfucking box son. A motherfucking box, for real.
"Andre the Dumby" lol. It would take a big big man to talk shit about Andre the Giant so publicly like that. Enrie Ladd would have been one of the few to get away with that.
im consider myself lucky to have been a wrestling fan in the late 60s and 70s and saw so many great characters of the wrestling world. Ernie Ladd was my favorite. He was great in interviews and a great heel in the ring. He was awesome. Please post more of The Big Cat. Thanks , these are great videos.
what a great clip. Ernie Ladd and Reeser Bowden. Ernie was the best on the mic. I'd love to see a Boyd Pierce clip with him wearing his white suit with the big roses on it. That's great stuff.
I was there back in the 70s in New Orleans @ the Municipal Auditorium at one of the battle royals Ernie took from the Giant. I have to give it to the Big Cat as soon as the battle royal started he roll out of the ring and hide by the poll the and watch everyone get eliminated. Andre thought he won. Ernie rolled in from behind and drop kicked Andre from behind. First time I saw Andre go over the top rope. I was the only one cheering when Ernie won!!
The self-proclaimed "King of Wrestling" haled from Houston. Texas. He was a Republican and best friend of Former President George H.W. Bush. Mr Ladd refused to be stero-typed as a Black/Negro/Colored wrestler. He had superior mic and selling skills. He was a great heel. He was a, non-technical, squash wrestler.
LOL,'The General Public"LOL .Andre the Dummy.Hey,classic stuff.I remember the Big Cat way to well. From the Mid South to GCW to the Carolinas,oh yes.One of my all time favorites a true legend.God Bless you Mr Ladd.
It sucks that politics and racism prevented Vince Mcmahon Sr. from putting the WWE Title on Ernie Ladd. He would have made a great heel champ against guys like Dusty, Bruno, Backlund or Morales.
I remember Ernie Ladd had a match on TV one time, he threw the guy into the ropes and then put his foot out to catch the guy in the chest, but the guy was too short so he caught the foot in the top of the head, bent his neck back all the way.
Ernie Ladd was before my time, but this promo was funny! This still holds up today! I don't watch wrestling now, but I am sure this promo is way better than promos of today.
I did'nt know he died. He was my next door neighbor in Tampa in the late 70's when he was wrestling there. Went to the beach with his family many times there. His whole family was very good friends with ours. It was very cool to know them.
Ernie Ladd should come back to life for one day, walk into the WWE/TNA locker rooms and slap them in the mouth and show them what a real heel is. Ernie relished being a heel and the crowd reactions he got. RIP E.L
Andre the"dummy" ! I will slap your face and whip your fanny ! Thats classic ! He would be a great "coach for all the dummies now that cant cut a promo ! rip ernie !
" ... I decided to enter some of the battle royals that Andre the Dummy was in, and I beat that dummy several times in battle royals." ROFL, "I will slap yo' face in the presence of yo' parents, less known in the presence, ... of all the fans, and pin you again dummy!" Ha, ha, ha! What a funny and intelligent interview, Reese wants to crack-up laughing, and I don't know how he kept a straigth (yet smirking) face through that interview! One of the all-time great heels ... Ernie Ladd R.I.P.
Now that,s the way interviews are supposed to sound like no hell yes no candy asses true wrestlers can still give great heel interviews with out talk like that.
The "Big Cat" definitely could do dialogue on the mike. Ernie Ladd was one of a kind. Glad I got to see him perform on TV and in person while growing up.
Ernie Ladd rocks man he inducted the JunkYard Dog into the WWE Hall Of Fame in 2004. He was entered in 1st in 1995. These inductions + Mr Perfect's and The Iron Sheiks brought be back to the WWE/WWF.
I saw him a few times at barton collisium in little rock .He was one of the first real big men I had seen in person . He was a giant of a man .After the match my dad and me stopped for gas and saw ernie there getting a soda .We talked for a few minutes with him .My dad and him really hit it off .He was a very nice man to us I'm sure he was tired after the match and just wanted to go to his hotel room but he took time to talk to a snot nosed kid and his dad .Very classy man .We need more like him
OMG! I'd never heard him on the mic... I almost barked! SO GOOD!!! Today's dudes ramble on for half an hour and don't even come close to this caliber of promo!
Ernie used to always say "there's 2 things in this world that don't live long, that's a dog chasin' cars and a broken down wrestler chasin' me"! Also, "momma didn't raise no fool, momma raised a champion"!
The old school wrestlers gave such good promos. It is truly a lost art. They were also a lot tougher back then. They spent more time in the gym and less time in the salon.
Great comment! I agree that the old school wrestlers were tougher and gave better promos than their present day counterparts. But wrestlers like Andre, Dick Murdoch, Dick the Bruiser, and the Crusher might have spent as much time in the saloon as the gym.
I probably knew her. They used to live next door to me in Tampa in or around 1979. He was wrestling there. He and my family went to the beach there quite a few times together. It was funny how many people came over to us to visit him. Wrestling in Tampa was really big there at the time. He was a VERY nice person and his family was too. I have alot of great memories with them. I was a skinny 13 year old white boy hanging with this huge black family and they treated me like their own.
Reese is trying not to crack a smile! Ernie Ladd was an intelligent educated man who had some of the funniest and entertaining interviews of anybody! "I will slap your face in the general public", hilarious! A heel saying "all my fans" (before The Rock!), you can't help but like him! Look at his and Bad Leroy Brown's promo about JYD and Dick Murdoch, their interview is better than the fan favorites! Thanks of course, to the late great Ernie Ladd!
Ladd remains a legend. He was quite an original, and I remember the crowds he would draw. He knew how to get under the fans' skin better than anyone else...
Anyone have any vidoes of the BEST announcer ever, GORDON SOLE? This was the best of wrestling! Saw THUNDERBOLT PATTERSON at Riches in Atlanta working in construction.

There will never be another "Big Cat" Ernie Ladd. His interviews were hilarious and he was always at his best when he was a miserable heel. I have some clips of him in the I.W.A. before he turned on Cowboy Ellis and it just wasn't as good as he was on this clip. God bless & R.I.P. "Big Cat" Ernie Ladd.
Big Cat is deeply loved and missed, Cat was one of the greatest men to ever live a true godly man. We shared wonderful times together, i'll cherish my memories of Cat forever. An originator. R.I.P
Ernie Ladd. the first blackman to set it off as a heel in wrestling. i never got to see him do his thing but i read about him in the magazines sho'nuff.Thanx to youtube i can see what i missed.bigup rolochosu.R.I.P.BIG CAT.
Bill Watts & Mid-South Wrestling was a Non-member official member of the N.W.A., McGuirk & Welch were the actual owners of the N.W.A. membership. Watts continued the recognization and even attended N.W.A. BOD Meetings.
@aginghipster : This was not Bill Watts' MidSouth Wrestling, but was Leroy McGuirk's Championship Wrestling. McGuirk was the NWA promoter for the area that later would be MidSouth.
The late, great Ernie "Big Cat" Ladd knew how to provoke during a promo, and was very vicious verbally and in the ring. Outside the wrestling business, he was a true gentleman and a scholar. R.I.P. Ernie Ladd.
"I'll slap you in your face in the general public!" "OOWWW! I just get sick down in side, it make me want to throw up just thinking about how bad I would like to slap yo face." "I would slap yo face in the present of your parents . . . " I don't know if you can beat Ernie on the stick. That guy had it!
The Big Cat ruled. I grew up on him in Mid South Wrestling. He's the first wrestler I heard cut a promo like none other at the time. His only peer was maybe Dusty Rhodes
I'll slap you around real good in the general public! I will slap you in the presence of yo parents, less known in the presence of all the fans, dummy!

I have some clips of him in the I.W.A. before he turned on Cowboy Ellis and it just wasn't as good as he was on this clip. God bless & R.I.P. "Big Cat" Ernie Ladd.

RIP Ernie Ladd. I never saw him in his prime. Bill Watts was really not a member of the NWA so Im surprised by the NWA banner in the back.

This is from Leroy McGuirk's Championship Wrestling, which was a member.

Always have loved The Big Cat. One of my all time favorites.

The Big Cat ruled. I grew up on him in Mid South Wrestling. He's the first wrestler I heard cut a promo like none other at the time. His only peer was maybe Dusty Rhodes
