Y' know what's crazy, Herb Alpert and Lani Hall are both famous for Latino musical styles, and neither one of them is Hispanic (or Portuguese, if you want to split hairs...) And so they played it a number of times over a period of several weeks. Of course it deserved to go to #1 in its own right. @1000sidney I wasn't born until the late 70s, but agree about the music -- I think it would've been amazing to have been old enough to dance to music like this at one of the discos with the floors made of color-changing light tiles like on the cover pic for Saturday Night Fever. :) The only problem with being from the 70s is that in the 80s/90s, admitting we didn't hate disco (or other obvious 70s stuff) was a surefire way to become a bully magnet.
