  • Oh my god this song is so nice NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTT!!!

  • God, do I miss 1979!

  • Biggie Smalls turned this into a classic!

  • @SuperSagat610 some songs you dont mess wit this is one

  • is this great song made by Herb?

    /watch?v=aogvUpYxAiQ

  • Wonderful song...I really miss those days.

Y' know what's crazy, Herb Alpert and Lani Hall are both famous for Latino musical styles, and neither one of them is Hispanic (or Portuguese, if you want to split hairs...) Alpert is a Los Angeles native of Ukrainian descent, and Lani is a Chicago girl. No matter, they're great, and I would love to hear more from them!

  • Put this one as my feat vid quite a while ago...

Good uplifting vibes between Herb and his wife Lani in this video .No fake at all... Plain to see...

  • Wow...he was really handsome!!!

  • yeah at 3:10, that segment was used on a Biggy Smallz song... cant remember the name, good song tho

  • Mm mm mmmmm... Herbie is so sexy in this video. :) It's a smooth and smoldering kind of sexiness and I love his dancing. Dayum!

  • Biggy and Puffy aka Puff Daddy used a clip in this music on one of there tracks

  • This is a perfect song to have a long lovemaking session and film it in it's entirety to then watch it with your lover and make sweet, hot, sweaty, biting, licking, sucking, moaning, heavy breathing, screaming lovemaking hair pulling sex to.

  • Best song of 1979, the year I was born....

  • Yeah, Luke did rape Laura to this song. I'm beginning to think that at one time date rape was an acceptable or at least an overlooked practice. Those lucky bastards. My generation can never catch a break. They got to date rape the shit out of any woman who they could get alone, and meanwhile they made our ghb, and rohypnol illegal. Now women have to actually be attracted to us if we want to have sex with them. Total BULLSHIT!

  • @abstractheory Aww...somebody call a WAHmbulance!!

  • This song & Herb Alpert is one of the BEST . So u can do what ever you want to it.But your all here listening to it.

  • i shot out of my mothers placenta-depleted vagina when this song was made!

  • the vid is perfect for it. makes me wanna dance like a hippie

  • I love to play this song while I'm here in the motorcycle shop!

  • ES realmente una joya musical de mis tiempos para disfrutar por mucho tiempo

  • Luke raped Laura on General Hospital to this song. Remember? I think they later retconed that story and said it was consensual. Goodness! Long live the soaps!

  • @Kelby4581 lol!

  • @Kelby4581 I read that that scene was a big reason this song went to #1. Because every time she thought back to the rape they played this song on GH. And so they played it a number of times over a period of several weeks. Of course it deserved to go to #1 in its own right. It's just that it's always been hard for instrumentals to make it big, so that's probably the exposure that it needed to become really popular with the public.

  • He is the "A" in A & M Records, that is his real wife in the video, and they are great philanthropists, giving MILLIONS to the arts...and a great song to boot!

  • @cantaccessmyaccount Times have changed so much. Today you would never have 1.) An instrumental reach #1 on the charts 2.) The president of a record company put out a hit record 3.) A performer appear with his WIFE in the music video for his song (not this kind of song anyway). The list goes on and on. He's such an awesome guy. A real hero in my book, for his talent, vision, generosity, modesty and integrity.

  • This song transmit sensuality and vanity for me...

  • this was the #1 song nine months before i was born

  • @josephbayern I see what you did there... TCleva-gerl.

  • @josephbayern I see what you did there... Took me a second for it to register. Cleva-gerl.

  • evidently this was the #1 song the week I was born.

  • I was 6 and love this song to the day when it came out.

  • @QueensNewYorker718

I was 10 years old, and this song still moves me in ways I cannot describe.

  • @TheEqualizer2U

1979. A fantastic year for music, whatever your age was at the time.

  • @ wibi Thats Pretty Funny !! Pussy Shaving Music ... But in all Seriousness This Song is C- L - A - S - S - I - C !!! Please Beleive me

  • This was the #1 song the week of my birth, lol. Pretty snazzy ;)

  • Leaping into the birthday song fray :)

  • LOL My birthday song too :-)

  • This is badass! My #1 Birth week song too! It's amazing to me, that not so long ago - an INSTRUMENTAL was number 1...and a trumpet tune at that!

Also - not only was it badass in it's day...but it was later sampled by Puff Daddy for Notorious BIG for "Hypnotize"...so it was on the charts at least twice!!!

  • I once read "this is pussy shaving music" LMAO

  • @wibli lol

  • @wibli I heard that too, on Tolville on facebook :)

  • birthday song...yayyy...my kind of song!!!

  • Ditto fellow Scorpios!

  • My b-day song as well.

  • Ditto, my birthday song.

  • This is my birthday song as well!

  • This was MY birthday song :-)

  • #1 song when I was born! I heard a sound bite used in a Biggie Smalls song! I can't remember which one though! I think it's Hypnotize?? Ah yes I see the comment below now! LOL nice!

  • this was the #1 song when i was born lol

  • @206ubeezy Me too, birthday buddy.

  • someone can tell me that rhythm is the dance in this song?

  • Thumbs up if you found this through "Hypnotize."

  • @ZiiMouf Thumbs up if you've eaten bread before in your life.

  • @suf23 Thumbs up if you have exposed a hack. I'm a hack commenter.

  • Great music.

  • 朝に聞く町田を16歳の年を思い出します。ETOU

  • Gabriel's horn 4:13

  • this is a baddass jam!!!

  • Dammit. I cant get this theme out of my head. i was singing this in my mind while doing exams. Its getting ridiculous. This is too good a song.

  • i wanna get raped to this song too

  • @JordanGrin awesome....lmao

  • Everytime I listen to this I melt. Such smooth music. Love me some Herb Alpert.

  • This was issued in two forms: The Familiar 4 minute version, and the 12" "Disco single, which i'd had! It was also infamous because of a incident known as Chicago's disasterous "Death To Disco" which Destroyed the old Cominsky Park Ballpark! The DJ's involved were arrested and charged with destruction of a Public Ballpark! They never worked as DJ's ever again! senseless Stupidity!

  • Haven't heard that tune in decades...I didn't know about that song making that great on US billboard back in the day.... listening to Blue Gala by Gato Barbieri led me to this song...Maybe some similarities in the melody ...

  • To spare anyone else the need for brain bleach from looking it up: yes, this is the song that was used for the sickeningly realistic "Luke rapes Laura" scene back then on "General Hospital". (I wonder how the heck the writers chose "Rise" for something that messed-up?)

  • Thanks for posting this... I've wondered for a few decades about the people clapping and vocalizing at points, since they sounded like they were having a lot of fun; somehow the video fits perfectly!

  • A Trumpet shall sound at the coming of The Lord of Host!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @dpc4066 - I'm not so sure this is what they are talking about. . .

  • Watching this makes me wish I was born in the 70s. This music is so good and a million times better than today's music

  • @1000sidney I wasn't born until the late 70s, but agree about the music -- I think it would've been amazing to have been old enough to dance to music like this at one of the discos with the floors made of color-changing light tiles like on the cover pic for Saturday Night Fever. :) The only problem with being from the 70s is that in the 80s/90s, admitting we didn't hate disco (or other obvious 70s stuff) was a surefire way to become a bully magnet.

  • Remember when instrumentals were in the Top 40......

  • 2:38 - isn't that the dude from CHiPs?

  • Trumpets rule...

  • I remember when this was #1 so crazy to see a song go nuts on radio with no words I wonder if that will happen again anytime soon

  • No, This Herb Albert Bringing The Latin Funk,When Biggie Was Still Innocent!!!

  • this is biggie smalls hynotise

  • biggie biggie cant you see sometimes your words just hypnotise me

  • BBC4 showed a documentary on HA about a year ago. When he composed 'Rise' he had been going to set it at the standard disco beat of c.120 beats/minute but decided that it sounded far better at the slower tempo (80 beats/min, calculated it with a stopwatch) and it's fab!

  • So easy to listen to after all these years - thanks

  • In The 60's, my father was a HUGE fan of Herb Alpert's trumpet playing; I guess I see why. Herbie rocks in this one. Nice job, Mr. Alpert!

  • That beat and that sound will never die ! Classic ! Even biggie smalls sample that track into his music.

  • To me, this represents the journey of mankind through life; the possibilities that we encounter and have the ability to endure. I think this is beautiful and eternal.

  • Slapped up bass! Love it

  • yeahhh

  • Pure sweetness that brought me to know the wonders of music in my childhood! I'm still playing Herb, will never ever stop!

  • Wonderfully smooth...like a fine wine or walking by the breezy oceanside. Thank you for Mr Alpert for sharing your talent with us. The world is a more beautiful and mellow place because of music like this.
