Dominic Frasca is like the bigfoot of the guitar world. There is rarely any footage of him, the only recordings are fuzzy and short, but what we can see is astonishing
@GeneralGandhi I didn't say there aren't exceptions, but I meant "small kids" figuratively - some ppl aren't grown up in 30, some are grown up in 13 and if you have your own mind, your kinda grown up :-)
And about the metal, I didn't want to offend any metal listeners (actually I am Metallica fan :-), but I know many guys who are just like "it's fast, no one can play faster so it's the best" or "man, we rock because we're all dressed in black!", you know :-)
I think it's time I retract my previous statement. I was intolerant of this new concept I hadn't heard before from a man who considers himself a classical guitarist. I have learned to fall in love with his music and the song Johns not Taken still brings a tear to my eye. Frasca is still one of my favorite musicians and I hope more videos of him come around and I want to buy an album of his.
well you can do what i did. i found his website and emailed him. he is such a nice guy. very respectful, supportive, cool, etc. he probably wont mind helping you out. i would send you what he gave me but this song isnt released yet so id feel like a sheet music pirate if i sent it to you. plus im sure he will. this is the exact song he sent sheet music to me for
Italianboy225, it's not Forced Entry, but Shattered Glass. It's the first song ever written by Dominic Frasca. He wrote it when he was 19 years old. :)
There is music in this, very interesting music infact. You are just to pig-ignorant and closed-minded to listen. These comments are not helpful, just keep these comments to yourself.
ok, n00blet? wtf. thats not even an insult, at this point its like, a back-fire insult.
as for this music, first of all the video quality is bad. look up other things this guy does. you're used to listening to active music, music that tries to keep you interested. this is passive, which means its suppossed to be appreciated as, not so much background miusic, but as a kinda long-drawn-out song. idk its like trance, but not techno
meh my expanded vocabulary wanes in and out on me, as does my way of redundant circular talking. depends on my mood and amount of sobriety that day. i was just making fun of "n00blet" because that just sounds like such a childish insult, especially on youtube.
@numeroname i disagree there are plenty of people who don't think speed is the answer to guitar such as my self. unfortunately they aren't out there making music... when was the last time u heard this guy on the radio and hes awesome
@GeneralGandhi I didn't say there aren't exceptions, but I meant "small kids" figuratively - some ppl aren't grown up in 30, some are grown up in 13 and if you have your own mind, your kinda grown up :-)

One thing that many guitarists forget is that the guitar is a musical instrument. The sound that comes from the guitar should be a musical sound. I am afraid that Frasca is a perfect example of this type of guitarist. He has interesting, if unconventional, technique. He is very rhythmic in his playing and he obviously has some talent, probably a great deal of talent. But, he does not play in a musical style. Technique should serve the music; a musician does not use technique for its own sake.
pschlehr i disagree. considering the predecessors to the guitar, the cithara and the oud, had only 4 strings, no frets and could only play a combination of 4 notes, the instrument has greatly evolved along with the way people play it. how could you play the type of guitar Frasca plays conventionally? listen to the likes of tool, les claypool, buckethead, mike patton, these people also have taken their play style behond that of blues/rock guitar (well mabe not buckethead).
Reread my criticism. It has nothing to do with Frasca being technically unconventional. My criticism was of the music he produces. My primarily complaint is that he is BORING. Repeating a phrase over and over, with only minor variations along the way, is very tiresome and becomes nothing more than a self-indulgence for the musician. His music SUCKS! I do not like listening to it. I do not have to like his music just because he's flashy and does something sort of new, technique wise.
Well I guess I don't understand what you mean, but Frasca is a classical guitarist, and the fact that he makes one guitar sound like an orchestra fits the genre better than most classical guitarists in my opinion.
You could say any solo is musical masturbation.. I admit it doesn't really 'go' anywhere, but it's definitely interesting and enjoyable! Joe satriani, steve vai, could both be considered geniuses or masturbaters. Depends on your viewpoint. It doesn't really matter in the end, if you enjoy it great, if not, find something else!
I actually wasn't impressed all that much. Poor quality video, but Dominic completely massacres this guy at guitar! I didn't like him pausing for the drumming on the guitar. It should be one motion. Keep it up man!
i thought he was gunna break the guitar. when he started hitting it it sounded like he helped make El Kabong, i think thats his name. he was a horse with a banjo.
The name of the piece is not "Forced Entry". It's called "Shattered Glass", it's the first piece he ever wrote. Believe you me, i've been to his studio before to watch him perform for my old guitar ensemble. This piece is my favorite one that Frasca wrote.
I love Dominic and everyone should check the Deviations album. However, this is a pretty lousy recording with very distorted sound, and does not capture the greatness of the composition.
Not everything. Would you rather listening to something a little less focused on technique? Then go check out Franz Ferdinand or some other power-chord strumming band.
I was actually here for this concert. In fact I played there the day before for the high school ensemble concert.
