you can actually ask the dealer how many decks they are using. I asked at a casino in CT yesterday, and the dealer told me 6. After I lost 2 rounds in a row, someone told me that the dealers are now counting cards as well. When the plus count gets too big, the stop and reshuffle no matter where they are. Sure enough, the dealer stopped after only 3 decks. I got up and went to another table, same thing. I think they really caught on when the movie 21 came out. Dealer reshuffled at + 25.
Oh, it's possible, but doesn't happen often. I was at the casino last weekend, and did some table hopping. I also just sat by and watched. 1 player lost 12 hands in a row. At another table, the dealer hit BlackJack 3 times in a row. I was at a table busting 12's, while the dealer hit a hard 16 3 times, and each time, hit 21. I have come to learn that it's OK to keep a light count, but the fact is, if the casinos do selective shuffle, keeping face cards at the bottom of the deck, you lose.
Casinos don't cheat because they don't have to! Due to the advantage they have the vast majority of the time and the danger of getting caught by Gaming Control Board, there's no point in cheating. Also, as far as preferential shuffling is concerned, it's a waste of time! The vast majority of players are non counters and frequent shuffling makes almost every player less interested in the game. Also, frequent shuffling benefits 10% of the people who know basic strategy. Slower games=less profit!!!
True, to a degree. In CT, we only have Indian Casino's. They are allowed to get away with more, because the state's gaming commis. has very limited authority over them, since they are considered a Sovereign Nation. Therefore, they can try different measures (such as dealer counting) where normally they wouldn't get away with it, like Vegas. Trust me, it's not a coinsidence that EVERY time the count gets positive by more than 5. that the dealer shuffles up, regardless of cards left in the shoe.
So do they shuffle when the true count gets at +5 based on the idea that the average player has a 2% disadvantage? I admit that makes sense but wouldn't that also increase the number of losing streaks a player will have? The better the odds a person has of winning(although they're still losing), the more attractive blackjack will be to the other players(particularly non-counters). What job do you have over there, a dealer job? What is your opinion on tipping?
No, I play. I met a dealer one noght over the Holiday's at a friends party, and he told me. All it took was for him to knock back a couple drinks. Not all dealers count all the time. It's usually during busy times, or if a couple tables got taken for a lot of oney the night before, regardless if it was from a counter or not. There are only 2 casino's in CT, where I play, so it's not like you can go anywhere else, plus, the tables are always crowded. They have enough players. I tip if I win.
Interesting? As far as tipping is concerned, I don't believe in tipping. The casino doesn't tip you if you lose, so why bother tipping them when they lose? Also, you're not required to tip in the first place and the casino "service" is not the least bit free. They have the advantage most of the time, so that's how the business make money. Also, tipping will raise the casino's expected value. Tipping cocktail waitresses and waiters are one thing, but tipping dealers is crazy to me.
That's because stuff like this I personally enjoy. I also like to be a powerful influence against the casinos so the casinos aren't the only ones telling half lies/deceiving truths at best.

What do you think about betting "high" when the count is positive? (yes even when the true count is just +1).
