My Great-Grandfather was shot for Cowardice back in WW1, & my idiot brother has taken up his ‘cause’ in a nauseating, offensive manner.
He attends every military parade he can wearing a fake army uniform & a ‘medal’ the size of a dinner-plate on his chest. This is engraved with the phrase “Murdered by his fellow British soldiers- DAMN THEM ALL TO HELL!”.
What he hopes to achieve by this ‘protest’ is beyond us. He always upsets people & has been beaten up by squaddies on several occasions.
@OfficialRJLextro Sort of. See she is still our Queen but she has no power because we have a Governor General(GG). This person represents the Crown. But this person is a Canadian and even then they are not head of state. It like the Americans say "we dont even know who is in power there" its true too eh. Because the GG has the power to over rule a bill but cannot make one. The Prime minister has the power to suggest bills but not pass them. And the Parliament can suggest bills or say no to them.
@topmarkms Queen Elizabeth II is Head of the Commonwealth, and when i said "a member of the Commonwealth" I meant Canada is a member. I should have phrased it better.
@Yodasstuff You're probably better off than us Brits. We have traditions, sure, but our traditions come with thousands of years of history and bloody warfare behind them.
@Yodasstuff Agree 100 percent with your first sentence, but not your second. We are a republic. This pomp and ceremony is appropriate for royal or imperial circumstances. It is not appropriate for us, where our ceremony should reflect our simpler traditions and (small "r") republican values.
@TheCrump3t I would love to see Great Britain leave the corrupted organization known as the EU, and instead build stronger relations with commonwealth countries like Canada, Australia, and New Zealand etc. Rule Britannia! God save the Queen! =)
there are five regiments of foot guards grenerdier ,coldstream ,scots ,irish and welsh ,each have their own colour with individual battle honours dating back to the16th century that of the grenadiers the other regiments were formed as the british empire expanded the latter being the welsh guards formed in 1915. The reason why the guards have modern assault rifles is because they are our front line soldiers .They are professional soldiers who all have served in afghanistan.
I am not in anyway mocking... This is a wonderful and charming tradition, but I just find it slightly amusing; those traditional uniforms combined with modern assault rifles...
@bootsandsaddles we aren't German if thats what your suggesting most English come from other parts of the British isles since them old old wars my own City bears little resemblance to them invasions now it is made up of Irish, Scottish, Welsh descendants most of england was unchanged and the parts that where have been saturated with their Celtic brothers over the years that little raid only caused slight change to thousands of years of indigenous DNA
@bootsandsaddles Friends i would define as the relationship we had before the turn of the 20th century with the Germans good mates now we have grown weary and do not trust any Europeans and we do not class ourselves as European as we are an island people unique i suppose that weariness is just typical British we are reserved and it takes time for us to trust and get to know anyone especially after events that occurred we don't forget easily after all we fought the French for a thousand years
The Yanks would love to have something like this in their country. Makes you proud to see just how good our army is at ceremonial. Their drill is spot on!

What happened to your country Brits? How did it come to this? On my way to Paddington Station back to Heathrow I felt like crossing Istanbul, but not great old London.
Thanks 1stMarDiv. Kier must be right - but he thinks too small. The Thin Red Line, as he states, was something else. But it mushroomed from that and became a phrase encompassing the British Thin Red Line - caught the public imagination, became the stuff of legend, and became not traceable to any particular unit. Troops in red tunics, of all units, spread globally, creating a bulwark - behind which existed the Rule of Law. Thin Red Line like the car, not Daimler. Mac, not the Macintosh. TRL!
All other nations look like boy scouts when compared to this. Even here in Japan, the famous thin red line trooper icon is used on countless department store/shop/civic building automatic doors. When I was in the States in 1999, a big auto firm had their car and these troops one immense ad hoardings: "Quality and Strength." Quite.
What makes the UK stand out is the Monarchy. It is constant and a steady presence. Unlike here in the states where our government changes every couple of years. We have nothing but fighting, whereas no matter if liberal or conservative, all stand by their Queen. One can easily see how a small country like England was able to rule such a large part of the world. God Save the Queen.
@1stMarDiv75 you have it spot on. The fact is that we have already tried a republic (Oliver Cromwell - Lord Protector) but really didnt fancy it at all. The way we have it is that the monarchy is a stand alone blood line that stretches back a thousand years - some might say even longer dependant on pseudo history etc politicians are therefore separated from this by a huge margin and we seem happy to employ politicians for our freedoms and the monarchy is our historical and endless figurehead.
@1stMarDiv75 it is also because of this royal tradition that I know my grandfather experienced and that I know my grandchildren will experience that binds us together.
@1stMarDiv75 There is No hair splitting, just a Simple fact ! that for some reason Americans cannot get their head around, England only makes up 1/4 of the UK and even less when you allow for the other parts ie Jersey, Guernsey, Isle of Man and in the days of the Empire, also Eire , this clip does in fact show a English Guards Parade how ever the Grenadiers are only 1/5 th of the total, of British Guards drawn from across the UK.
It's time Her Majesty ordered these fine soldiers into action against Britain's Islamic invaders. If only so King Richard the Lionheart can stop spinning inhis grave and get a decent night's rest.
This former American Marine has nothing but admiration for the English and their Queen. They are a truly first class military and she is truly a lady and a fine figurehead. Nothing like the pieces of crap we have here in the states. God Save The Queen!
@headbangers67 Thank you very much. As an American I have always admired the people in Britain. I served with 41 Commando of the RM in the 70's.From the way the stood against the Zulu's at Rorke's Drift (the Welsh), Highland units going into battle to the tunes of the pipes, the way the held at Torbruk and stood against immense odds at Arhnem and the Injim River in Korea, and the way they took back the Falklands. Maybe I was an Englishman in another life? God Save the Queen.
@1stMarDiv75 Thats pretty kool, are you a vetran of vietnam aswel ?, im from the south of Wales, And yes there is alot of tradition in the British army as you already seem to be well aware of. Maybe you are off English ancestory ? I would love to sing up when i turn 18, think i better start running !
Does how big their hat is determine their rank or something? I've noticed that some of their hats...on some guys covers their eyes yet on some, doesn't.
No, it doesn't, it's just not a very good hat-sizing system lol.
Divisions and rank can be determined by their uniforms and their equipment. For example, the sergeants have swords (usually) and three gold rank hatchings on their sleeves. Prince Phillip wears the uniform of a high-ranking officer, which can be seen by the large amount of decorative tassels etc.
Probably far more info than you wanted, but hey =P
@AMMToxic however they fail as they are not actually active soldiers. these guys do 6 month rotations between drill and actual combat. --------- wrong new draft straight out of training do the guards on windsor , buck, jimmys, and the tower, the spend around 6 months in a incremental company's before heading to there Battalion, each year a regiment is chosen to do the troop, this year it is the Scots Guards, the majority of the guards time is spent on operations or training for them
id like to see the actual rehersals well before the day of the parade showing the drill sergeant ripping apart his lower ranks .hes thinking to himself how many times do i have to do this to himself im sure ..

Redcoats...
They still march in nice straight lines like they
did at Concord and Lexington.

Does how big their hat is determine their rank or something? I've noticed that some of their hats...on some guys covers their eyes yet on some, doesn't.

@honeyflash1

Is it just me, or does it look like some of the rows of soldiers close to the end look a bit off?

also there are real bear skins used however the new ones in circulation are not real
PaulMageeColne 11 months ago
@AMMToxic however they fail as they are not actually active soldiers. these guys do 6 month rotations between drill and actual combat. --------- wrong new draft straight out of training do the guards on windsor , buck, jimmys, and the tower, the spend around 6 months in a incremental company's before heading to there Battalion, each year a regiment is chosen to do the troop, this year it is the Scots Guards, the majority of the guards time is spent on operations or training for them
PaulMageeColne 11 months ago
@PaulMageeColne
quite but that still proves my point as i was responding to the person who posted about the vatican guard who do not rotate.
