  • Here's another idea:

    Mary had a little lamb

It's fleece was white as a crop

    And everywhere that Mary went,

The lamb was sure to hop.

Since cotton is white and a crop, the second sentence will work, plus I have seen a picture of a lamb hop especially in the springtime. Therefore, everything works.

  • I picture Oscar in this episode which was Episode 698 (Season 6, Episode 33) when the main plot was where he becomes a doctor, conductor and librarian.

  • Here's another idea:

    Mary had a little canary.

It was as yellow as the sun in the sky.

    And everywhere that Mary went,

The canary was sure to fly.

Don: NO! THAT SENTENCE IS TOO LONG!!!!!

  • My daughter acts just like him....

  • Like how Don can play piano w/pencil in btwn fingers!

  • <3

  • lol cute <3

  • now THAT was silly

  • I always thought this was so funny! When I was 5 and even at 41

  • Songwriting 101.

Notice though Kermit did not get any royalties for co-writing the song with Don. ROFL

  • tempermental musician

  • I've heard of headdesking, but headpianoing? XD

  • "It's fleece was yellow as the sun.." what happened to THAT lamb?!

  • @alannadainekelaly R.Kelly got to it.

  • Don == Andy Dick

  • I'm crying at this cuz I'm laughing so hard . . . ah, memories.

  • I like that at the end he still has the pencil in his hand and then drops it and knocks it onto the floor while he's playing.

  • Does anyone on youtube have a clip of just him banging his head on the piano lol?

  • You keep hitting your head like that, you gonna hurt something!!! lmao!!!!

  • *singing* "I'm Don Music and I write the songs." (With apologies to Barry Manilow)

  • Is Don wearing a belt or is his shirt far too short?

  • there is always something really funny about a guy slamming his head into the piano. these are just as funny watching as an adult now.

  • "I'm sorry Ludwig" :))) LOL!!!!!!!

  • Don Music must've gotten some severe brain damage.

  • im so glad I found his name out.. LOL ive been recalling this clip for years bc don music is a hot mess... Bangin his head into the piano?? lmfao

  • Why did Don Music bang his head into the piano?

  • @Miketheyoutubization - over and over at that! LOL.. I remember seeing this as a kid.. crazy.

  • Like the famous PEANUTS cartoon strips by the late Charles M. Schulz, Sesame Street was in many ways a caricature of the adult world. That's why the show was sometimes said to really be for adults -- not children.

  • How about another word for run. I don't know "Go".

  • Don Music sounds like Gladys the Cow.

  • It's ALL "cultural" now...

  • My hair totally looks like that , especially in the morning now!

  • Even as a child, I loved how they played the melody to 'Bad, Bad Leroy Brown' by Jim Croce

  • Oh I'll never get it,never BOOONNNGGG!!!!! He always fucked his head up on that piano!!!

  • Don Music truly personifies the classic tortured artist.

  • Elton john behind piano

  • Now thats song writing....

  • i remember atching this en i as lik 2!!!!

  • just absolute genius....

  • i rember sing this in school and m teacher flip...he hee heee

  • Perhaps the best Sesame Street short ever...

  • listening to these Don Music vids always works toward curing my writer's block. Thanks

  • DARCY DAWN luvs this.....check her out

  • @3:09 kermit says "niggers!" lawl

  • it doesn't have to sound like snow!

  • Comment removed

  • I love it every time Don slams his head agains the piano. It's hysterical.

  • "Mary had a little bicycle, it was painted red as fire. And whenever Mary wanted to take a ride, the bicycle had a flat tire." lmao!

Ah, Sesame Street. So educational, and so messed up at the same time. lol

  • This skit is from episode 0698, aired on December 18, 1974. Kermit: Jim Henson, Don Music: Richard Hunt

  • Mr. Don Is Mary Little Lamb is Doesnt Make Sence is make funny

  • It sounds like it when he plays the piano.

  • The beginning of mary had a bicycle, sorta sounded like bad leroy brown

  • You are so right!

  • Watch Chrissy at the end. He hangs upside down! That is funny!

  • my sister and i used to bang our heads on our piano copying don music. its such a beautiful sound.

he got kicked off of sesame street because kids were getting hurt.

he kind of looks like Glenn Gould

  • Well, I hope you guys didn't get hurt after doing that.

  • Oh but that doesnt rhyme with snow it must sound like snow!

It doesnt have to sound like snow

    Of Course it does!!

    NO IT DOESNT!

  • OH MY GOSH I LOVE HIS HAIR!! LOL!!!

  • "I'll never get it never! you won't help oh" *Boooooooooom* LMAO!

  • "Mary had a bicycle...... But it always had a flat tire!" My fave line.

Having a bike that has a perpetually flat tire is no fun. ;-)

  • Yep, but Little Jerry doesn't appear in this song. Maybe it's probably because he has to work on some songs either by himself or maybe with some other Anything Muppet hippies.

  • That's okay. He was probably busy writing "Telephone Rock". ;-)

  • He was busy singing "Spinning Wheel" with the Hippies (minus the Green) from "Good Morning Starshine". ;)

  • Oh, very funny! :-P

Spinning Wheel wasn't even covered in 1974 (the same year this song was performed).

  • Lol, I know, just a joke. ;)

Btw, I sort of remember thinking as a kid that the Monotones were basicly in a room next door to Don's, so they heard him seeing next door and decided to join in. :P

  • Oh yeah!!! I get to see the full version! I remember the cut version from Sing Yourself Silly, and in my mind, this was the silliest of all the Don Music sketches.

When I saw the Monotones in this song as a girl, I remember thinking, "Wa-a-a-ait a minute. Aren't those the same guys from Telephone Rock?" :-P

  • BUT CANARIES ARE'NT BLUE!!!!!!!!

  • x-D I nearly lol'd when he shouted it.

  • Mary was the town bike. everyone wanted a ride.

  • does anyone have "Row row row your car"???????

  • It's actually "Drive, Drive, Drive Your Car", and it's up on YouTube now. I think wattamack posted it.

  • The voice of songwriter Don Music was brilliantly voiced by the late Richard Hunt . "Whoever heard of a Yellow Lamb! " Don Music

  • IT DOESN'T HAVE TO RHYME WITH SNOW!!! lolz.

  • Another of my favorite sketches from The golden days of the Sesame Street of the 1970's. Don Music rules!!

  • I remember watching this when i was very young and laughing my head off at this guy ramming his head off the piano. Fun memories.

  • that's a depressing song! b**** would never go riding and get fat.

  • The heartwrenching terror of being an artist, perfectly captured.

  • BUT CANARIES ARENT BLUE!!!!!!!

  • OMG this is like the only video i remeber from my younger age!

  • sesame street was funny with the old charactars, but ever since one died, all the new characters suck, muppets was only taken off the air because it gave kids bad ideas

  • bad ideas?

  • watch the swedish chef making donuts

  • It's hilrarious when he slams his head onto the piano.

  • Comment removed

  • BUT CANARIES ARENT BLUE!

  • What a big crybaby!

  • Ironically enough I took a silly Facebook Quiz and it showed to me that I was more like Don Music

and after seeing some of his clips I can see that I kinda am; frazzled, jumping the gun, somewhat of a quitter but gets things done in the end..

...now if I only had some scars from slamming my head into a piano...

  • Comment removed

  • i took the facebook-quiz too, i'm also don music :D

  • ever since jim henson passed away, sesame street has turned gay. cookie monster no longer eats cookies...elmo basically is the main character....they would never make a video like this.

  • 4:28-4:53

  • I noticed a mistake in this sketch - Don says that Canaries aren't Blue, however, there actually are some Blue Canaries, as you can find on Google.

  • I loved these skits. It reminded me of a kid I knew in grade school who would bang his head on the wall when he got frustrated.

  • Ohhh im sorry ludwig! Lol

  • Is it sad that, at 45 years old, I'm nearly in tears laughing.

  • besides "once is not enough" this was my favorite prolly cuz he hit his head lmao

  • "BUT CANARIES AREN'T BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!"

    Lmao!!!

  • Kermit plays somewhat of an ego maniac news guy in these sketches.

  • Hilarious! I love Don Music. "BUT CANARIES AREN'T BLUE!!!!!" LOL. "Oh I'll never get it! Never, never, never!!!!"

  • "Oh I'll never get it!!" BANG LOL

  • "BUT CANARIES AREN'T BLUE!!!"

    That is sooo funny!

  • "I mean, who ever heard of a yellow lamb?"

    The golden fleece. ^-^

  • Creative geniuses seem to all be manic to a degree.

  • I recognize the voice from the Letter B skit.

  • The full version of this sketch is seen on Old School Volume 2.

  • Or should I say... ?

"The Full Version of this Song/Sketch is seen on Old School Volume 2".

  • The Backup singers are the monotones from telephone rock

  • I think Don Music and Guy Smiley are relatives. They look similar and both are rather excitable.Anyone agree?~~

  • Lol. I totally thought they were related as a kid.

  • 3:16 LOL! Don Music, the banned Muppet of Sesame Street! You gotta love the head banging, literally! :D LOL

  • awsome. And his hair looks like my nans hair in the morning.

  • Thanks for posting the full version of this one.

  • Sorry, I meant...

Thanks for posting the full version of this Don Music Skit.

  • Notice how long Don hangs on to his pencil? He even plays the piano while holding it. He has it from the very beginning up until just before the Monotones enter, when it falls out.

  • Has anyone ever heard of a Yellow Lamb for real?

  • I love this song so much. Especially by Don Music or whoever he's with as well as all the others.

  • Chris & The Alphabeats should've appeared in this one, but I kind of liked it with Jerry & The Montones.

  • "But canaries aren't blue!"~Don Music

Uh..Don? Kessie from the Winnie the Pooh franchise is blue and she is a canary.

  • I don't think so, I thought she was a "kestral" and also this show came long before The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.

  • 1RichardHunt: Yes, but remember, there were Pooh products before "New Adventures" existed (the 70's shorts and "Welcome to Pooh Corner"). She could've been a part of them.

  • I guess, but she wasn't even one of A.A. Milne's characters.

  • 1RichardHunt: Neither was Gopher.

  • Kessie isn't a canary. She's a different kind of bird.

  • @TVLubber

    She's a blue jay, i believe

  • @TVLubber I think she's a Blue Jay

  • lmao

  • I liked it.

  • Don always was a little high strung. I love these. Five stars and favorited. Thank U 4 posting it.

  • *headpiano*

    Love it!

  • anyone noticed that when don bangs his head on the piano at 1:32 and then when he lifts his head up his nose has shrunk

  • Actually, Don Music lifts his head up and almost lost his glasses after he hit his head on the piano.

  • Looks funny, doesn't it?

  • Great sketch! Thanks for posting it.

  • This was the best trip down memory lane, thank you so much for making me feel like a 6 year old, all over again... THANK YOU .....

  • I used to love this...so hilarious!! "Oh, I'll never get it, never never!"

  • CAnt believe u had the entire clip

  • YES

  • Oh I'll never get it! Oh I'm sorry Ludwig oh! BANG! I loved it when Don would smack his head on the piano.

  • Everyone loved it.

  • I'm waiting for the uploading of Don Music writing "Row Row Row Your Boat" and "Old MacDonald."

P.S.: I like this video where Don Music himself made his first appearance on Sesame Street very much.

  • Me too. And does anybody have those in English?

  • when don bangs his head on the piano, i crack up instantly.

  • "but canarys AREN'T BLUE!!" Don needs some anger management

  • Does anyone notice, that Kermit doesn't make a comment about Don's new song at the end?

  • I noticed. Maybe it's because he liked it so much he had no comment. ;-)

  • @TelephoneRock4ever

    It's possible, I suppose.

  • "Who heard of a yellow lamb!?!?!"

  • Well, I have!

  • so funny...such a tribute to musicians/songwriters...lol...

  • I loved this little bit. So funny :)

  • this is soooooooooooooooooooo funny I remember when my sister and I used to watch this and she woukd kaugh her ass off because it was and still is as funny as ever.

  • Very interesting.

  • "...Mary, Mary....Flat Tire!!"

    *Lol*

  • But CANARIES ARE'NT BLUE

  • I'm willing to bet that some 1980s reruns of this skit had the Sesame Street News logo plastered onto the beginning. And I love Don Music in this skit! I picture this when kids see it:

Don: "Oh I'll never get it, oh I'm sorry Ludwig, OH!" *BAAAAAAANG!*

Kids at Home: "Hey let's bang our heads!" *BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!*

  • Luckily, I'm not one of those kids who were inspired by that.

Heck, as some might know, that used to scare me as a kid.

  • Ironic, isn't it, that Bert managed to rhyme "sky" with "fly" in his own parody ("Mary Had a Little Pigeon") a year or two ago? Bert, of course, didn't mention the pigeon's color... ;-)

  • Yeah. A pigeon "that flew up in the sky". A bit obvious, don't you think?

  • Except pigeons are not BLUE as a SKY.

  • Some pigeons are blue.

  • Thanks for saving me trouble!

  • Thanks Jon. It's good to have this back- and uncut at that.
