You're mostly right. The benefit that the earth has is that what we do to it will really only change things enough to bring about the end of various species on the planet. That will probably include humanity and, when the damage can no longer be done on such a large scale, the earth's natural systems will be able to correct our mistakes. So the point of the movie does ring true, to an extent. If we don't stop, WE die. But the planet itself will outlive us.
the problem is that we haven't been on earth long enough to know for sure how it really works and its cycles. we have a pretty good guess but we aren't 100% sure. there is two sides to this. on one side of this one people are saying that we are doing horrible things to the earth by polluting it. on the other hand other people say this is just one of the cycles of earth it happens and we cant do anything to prevent it. The problem is we just dont know...and we fear what we can't understand.

Basicly, this movie is about how people are polluting Earth. The aliens came down here to get rid of humans because we are the ones polluting the earth. BUT, they save the animals because they aren't contributing to pollution (maybe the cows would die too? IDK lol). SO, they giant ball-things you see are to keep the animals alive so they can put them back on Earth after we are all dead.

But...it will have to start with the top end of the human race (the big guns) to make a change, and once there are leaders around the world helping make changes, eventually so to, will the rest of people. the movie wasn't bad, unfortunately global warming is a sham and this movie doesn't break any new ground like the pre-cursor film did, it too was a scare piece. Sure, we pollute- YES! let's clean up the mess, but it has to start with the trillion dollar corporations that use 97% of the utilities and pay less than 3% of the taxes. Global Warming isn't happening. The earth is cooling. Warming stopped in 1998. It's normal for the earth to warm and cool. It's always happened.
Oceans do not have deadly acidification. Coral is not being burned to death.
It is superstition to believe in these things. There is no science to show these things are happening.
There was a time when it was believed man caused eclipses. Now it's believed that man is killing the earth

The basic scenario of this movie comes from an other sci-fi movie of the 50s-60s decade, which many americans especially young did not watch. The title was about the same, there was an E.T with his robot ana his flying saucer came to Earth, but when the americans shot the man, he ordered his robot to release a kind of energy which freezed all the objects on Earth. My opinion is that we humans are valuable but we have to protect the planet also. Not nukes, plant trees, recycle, things like these.

CO2 is actually linked very closely to the temperature. BUT it's the other way around. High temperatures cause CO2 to rise about 800 years later. So as usual, the opposite is true.

Keanu Reeves, You should be at a state of panic. Something has happened to global warming. Currently in a northeast 12/20/2008 we are under a foot of snow. No one has the where abouts of global warming or if it will be back. It's has a pattern of disappearing during a winter months. I believe do to call the weather. Some of us believe it goes south for the winter. You seem to know more about global warming than I. Perhaps you know of its whereabouts. Enjoy the holidays! :)

You're mostly right. The benefit that the earth has is that what we do to it will really only change things enough to bring about the end of various species on the planet. That will probably include humanity and, when the damage can no longer be done on such a large scale, the earth's natural systems will be able to correct our mistakes. So the point of the movie does ring true, to an extent. If we don't stop, WE die. But the planet itself will outlive us.

the problem is that we haven't been on earth long enough to know for sure how it really works and its cycles. we have a pretty good guess but we aren't 100% sure. there is two sides to this. on one side of this one people are saying that we are doing horrible things to the earth by polluting it. on the other hand other people say this is just one of the cycles of earth it happens and we cant do anything to prevent it. The problem is we just dont know...and we fear what we can't understand.

The problem isnt getting joe schmoe to recycle (though that helps) or to get janet out of her car (again it does help) the biggest part of pollution coes from the manufactoring sector, the power secter, cruise ships dumping sludge in the ocean, etc the bug guys dump way more.
stop them from making gas guzzlers and make them make alternative fuel cars (remember the E1?) dont loosen restrictions to pollution. thats a green light to poison our planet. anyway thats just my 2c
