  • The rooster at the beginnig of this is nice looking. I did not know they could be black.

  • So much better than elmo this, elmo that, elmo, elmo, elmo nowadays! At least this gave kids a well-rounded education -directly or subliminally

  • Is this really Raposo himself? I know he wrote the song, and I know that he wrote and sang songs like J, Jump Joyful" and "Little Things". But this sounds more like Jack Sheldon, who recorded songs for Schoolhouse Rock..

  • I love this son would have made a good pop song

  • Lookup "High Middle Low". Joe is the middle part, the second to sing.

  • This was one of my favorite songs ever on Sesame Street. Hearing it now just brings me to tears. It's so well written, so well performed and straight forward. The phrases "Pouring into the bay', 'pouring out on the day" and "You see all the good things growing better every day" in particular. God bless and God rest Joe Raposo. An irreplaceable children's songwriter.

  • Is there is CD compilation of Joe Raposo Sesame Street songs out there? If not there needs to be.

  • I get emotional thinking about those days. I was in pre-school and kindergarten between the years 1976 - 1978. I remember my mom picking me up at noon, taking me home, making me lunch, and letting me watch tv, usually Sesame Street, while I ate. Joe Raposo's songs were a huge part of Sesame Street. I agree that it all went downhill in the late 80s or early 90s. Kids who were born in the late 80s or later probably don't know what we're talking about.

  • Same here - '...watching all the good things grow...' is the line that brings back this memory to me instantly! They should have a channel on TV or the Web which showcases ALL of the episodes and clips from Sesame Street during the 1970's!

  • Hi, mstatz!

I wonder if you have a clip of this song sung by a Filipino actress Lea Salonga when she guested in Sesame Street. Many thanks.

  • Oh man I love this one. I totally remember this as a kid. Absolutely classic. Thanks for posting this mstatz.

  • Ive been looking for this tune for years. God, Raposo was a saint.

  • were those the twin towers i spied towards the end?

clips like this bring back memories, ,good warm ones when life was simpler...

  • In this negative post modern age we live in where we have to be paranoid and legalistic, its good to see the Original Sesame Street to comfort us. and show our children a better and more gentle time...

  • God! I miss the old Sesame Street. They were my education for my first 7 years of life. i love that program in its original form. its great and comforting to know that someone took the trouble to preserve these precious archives. Thank you, thank you. God bless you, man!

  • Thank you SO much for this post....it was one of the songs i knew by heart as a kid...every time i would see it on Sesame Street I would belt it out at the top of my lung lol...I've missed this one.

  • Wow!!! I so remember this. I watched Sesame Street as a child in the 80s, at the time I had no idea that many of the skits were from the 70s and just replayed. I never knew who Joe Raposo was or that he was the one who created all these songs. Now at the age of 30 with a 2 y/o who watches Sesame Street, I can really appreciate it and what it meant for me. I've been making sure that my son gets to watch not only the new stuff but all the classics too and he loves them all. Thanx for posting!

  • i remember another song. im not sure if its from joe raposo but all i remember is that the song goes "THATS WHAT PEOPLE DO ALL DAY, PEOPLE WORK AND PEOPLE PLAY" its showing different people with different jobs that help the people. who ever has it please post it or if its up there tell me the title so i can check it out. thanks!

  • Yeah this had me crying too!!

  • Same here. This made me cry without fail.

  • If it still does, immediately click on a Sesame Street video that makes you laugh w/o fail.

  • Well that would have to be any Ernie and Bert skit and ME, CLAUDIUS on Monsterpiece Theatre.

  • I hear ya.

  • This is my all-time favorite Sesame Street song - and I love many of them. I remembered the 1st 2 verses of this song, even though I haven't heard it in 30-some years. It's great to see it again.

  • Do you have the version sung by Joe for one verse then a black church choir from the 1990 tribute video starting with Jim Henson's comments?

  • I have in on cassette tape and DVD.

  • So sad that he passed away. God, exactly 20 years...I would've Loved to've tried writing to him & thanking him for all those memorable songs. Sounds corny, but he really did help write the sound track to our childhoods. (though I'm fairly sure he must've heard his share of that) Great post!

  • Who was the trumpet player? This song and the accompaniment is amazing. I miss the better HQ version that used to be on You Tube.

  • Someone should post the '90s remake. :)

  • Thank you for posting this. I remember watching it in the early 1970's. The music has stuck with me ever since.

  • Someone had posted a better version. What happened to it?

  • sesame street today really sucks then how it used to be in my childhood. I grew up in the 80s and this clip here was one of my favorites of all times. sometimes i sing this song while im in the shower.

  • It's a totally good shower song. :)

  • I started singing this at the Hess station while I was filling up, imagine my surprise when 2 other customers joined right in, word for word. The trumpet work on this is exceptional.

  • As a Joe fan, I think that's my favorite comment of all time. I have a meeting with Joe Raposo's bassist Bob Cranshaw and his percussionist Danny Epstein Monday this coming week, to reminisce about Raposo together. This trumpeter may still be around, and if so, I'd like him to know what you've said here. I'll ask them what his name is. These men remember well working with Joe, and are ALWAYS glad to hear we care about and remember their performances. Both alive and still working. Luv em :)

  • (And I am nobody special - just a fan of Joe's hoping to collect and compile the memories of those men who worked with him all these years. Since I live in NYC now, it's not difficult to meet with them - but they are incredibly gracious to agree to talk to a nobody about their work, so that's how I do it, and I thank them for it. I'm just a fan like everyone else here, and do this as a service for us all, who love Joe's music. PS: Joe's guitarist, says Mr. Cranshaw, was named Jimmy Mitchell.

  • Joe really threw himself full-throttle into this song vocally. I wish "A Little Bit" had been released as a pop song. I consider it his best vocal performance.

  • I agree 100%! This is my favorite song of his no doubt! BTW, is "A Little Bit" the official title of this song?

  • I think it's "Little Bit" with no "A" at the beginning (I apologize for typing it wrong). BMI's database is having trouble this morning so I can't check yet, but when the database is up and running again I will, and I'll post it here for you :)

  • Bravo! Thank you for posting this - I remember this song from when I was a kid in the 1970's. Classic then and a real classic now! One of my favorite Sesame Street ballads!

  • I remember this from the 80's when I was a kid-love it!

  • I hate that they used this in the altered episode #1 on the Old School boxed set. I want my CTW programs unaltered! Negotiate for those rights, and make us happy! Peace.

  • They cut the film scene of the girl talking about things getting washed. Once they did that, they needed a filler.

  • I know, mstatz. I've seen the unaltered version at the Museum of Broadcasting in New York. It still pisses me off. Peace.

  • You know what also pisses me off! They took a whole bunch od short classic Sesame Street cartoons and they added stupid modern sound effects and music to them that don't fit at all. On the "Old School" DVD set, watch the "Boy fishing for the alphabet" cartoon. They added this stupid music to it. The original had no music at all.

  • Oh, yes, tell me about it! They started descecrating the clips shortly before "Elmo's World" started. As if they needed to dumb down the original clips because the average age of the viewers went down to 2 years from 4 years—thus the format change. Please, Sesame Workshop or PBS, cancel the show before it wreaks any more havoc! Peace.

  • omg i remember that star one before this too

  • Possibly his greatest song. As for me, the message has kept me sane on very frustrating and bad days.

  • I've seen pictures of Joe Raposo and I don't think he looks like he sounds. Anyone else with me on this?

  • I'LL take him how he looks, baby! (But yeah, you're right.)

  • great song.....I haven't heard it in a LONG TIME! Great Post!

  • What a great song / clip...it brings back so many memories. I saw it on the Sesame Street Old School DVD set, which arrived this weekend.

  • damn, i'm getting teary again!!!

  • I know, I'm totally cryin'.

  • Hey I know which episode you got this off of,you got it off the episode where Telly Monster gets a magic pencil.

  • I recorded this episode in early 1988. I think that's when Telly's magic pencil first aired, so it probably is.

  • A Joe Raposo masterpiece!

  • i recently bought the Old School Sesame Street dvd box set (the season premiere episodes from the 1960-1974). When I saw this on it for the first time in YEARS, i literally got choked up and teary eyed! I didn't know there was a Joe Raposo CD, i'm going to buy it tomorrow! thanks!

  • It may be out of print now. I bought the cassette tape in 1994 and the DVD on ebay about two years ago.

  • thanks... i'll try looking for it anyway!

  • I adore this song!! I learned it as a child growing up in the 70's and I sing it to my daughter now who's 2. Honestly, to see it again made me cry in a good way.

  • It's great that I'm now able to share all these videos I recorded over 20 years ago with the whole country. I was one year old when Sesame Street came on the air, so my childhood memories of the show are from the early to late 70's (the BEST years of Sesame Street)!

  • Is this the song that a Filipino Broadway star Lea Salonga sang when she appeared on Sesame Street?

  • Does anyone have the Raposo song "trying...and trying again". I remember that one and can still hear the song in my head but I never got it. Do you remember the cat trying to climb the stairs and the turtle that tried to turn itself over? It ended with a little boy trying to catch a football and he finally catches it. He then jumps up and down with excitement. So cute!

  • i remember that song! it was adorable!

  • I have it on an old Beta tape (broadcast from 1985). I only have it converted to VHS. I don't have it converted to DVD or computer yet. I'll keep you posted.

  • Don't laugh but this song brought back so much memories that I am crying...literally!

  • I am too! I swear. I loved this when I was 4 and think it's just as beautiful now. This was by far always my favorite Raposo song. Thanks to mstaz for posting!

  • Your welcome! I remember coming home from Kindergarten and watching this song back in 1973-74. It's my favorite too.

  • I've never heard or seen this particular (longer) version. Thank you.

  • How appropriate that this song played in Episode One; I wonder whether Joe Raposo had Sesame Street's future in mind (subconsciously at least) when he wrote it. Five stars!

  • What do you mean?

  • This clip was featured in the very first episode in 1969

  • this is a classic, but it wasn't really part of the 1st episode. The recent DVD set includes it in 1st episode to replace content removed for copyright reasons. I was glad to see & hear the original (non gospel) finally.

  • OH GREAT, I wouldn't have posted it if I had known it was on the released DVD. I bought the DVD but never watched the 1st episode because I had already seen it. I ordered the 1st episode on videotape from ebay three years ago and knew it definetly wasn't on it.

  • Whoops, my fault that I didn't know about the replacement (since I don't own the DVD). Still, putting it on the Episode One disk was a brilliant idea...

  • Thaks for the info. I wonder what it replaced. Do you remember Roposo's song "Flying?" The video had birds flying into the horizon in slow motion. It was absolutely my fav Raposo nature clip. I've yet to see it here on you tube and hope someone uploads it
