Man, so many kudos on starting an endeavor that I don't think I could ever manage. My drug of choice in this case is Gameshark. I'm an avid completionist, though, so one day I might try a legitimate perfect FF9 game. Just... not for a while.
I wasn't sure if maxed stats and the Excalibur II were possible. Neat. But I'm not one to fuck around with rushing through a FF game, so my version of a perfect game whenever it may happen would have Eiko having crazy high stats from leveling up Markus to 99. And lack the jump rope thing since I wonder if I'll ever be good enough to jump 1000 or more times in a row.
@danbrown565 Characters have to gain as little EXP as possible because characters gain hidden stats when they level up with certain equipment. The optimal equipment for stat gaining is attained on Disc 4, so you have to be level 1 at disc 4 to obtain perfect obtainable stats.
I am playing on a PAL PS2 that has been sensor modded so I can play NTSC games. Is it still possible to skip FMVs? Also, this may seem like a stupid question but does the game determine the framerate or would I need a NTSC console?
Upon receiving my NTSC game and running it next to the opening cinematic from rlouise's channel, it would seem that a NTSC PS2 is also required. Any proof otherwise is more than welcome.
Ouch. I finished the second leg of the challenge with the swordfight, only to discover that I missed the potion to the left of the Heroine Statue. An 18:51 time down the drain!
Could someone make a video of how to skip the FMVs? I have been trying on my old Fat black PS2 and I eject and put the CD back in but it doesn't load anymore. It freezes on that screen. Could you possibly make a video to show how you do it? :)
I'm going to attempt this on my PS3... (it's possible, right?) I haven't played FF9 in a few years so i'll probably end up playing through till a save point then replay, trying to rush through the same bit again. I hope it goes well, wish me luck :)
just a question: can I get 255 stats and 9999 HP/ 999 MP in FF9 by stat maxing level one characters? I havent played this game a long time ago but I plan on doing it again but I'm not sure if stat maxing in this game really grants you "perfekt" stats. If not I'm not focusing on a level one game but I will still try to keep my levels as low as possible.
for all the people who play on emulators, the skip movie trick is preformed by in mid of the movie open a new iso random game other then ff9 then let it load for a sec, once the game starts moveing imediatly load the ff9 iso again even if your a second off ull have to redo it so i suggest a quicksave b4 attempting and tyvm for uploading this guide :D
I m about to attempt this on a PS3 so I wanted to ask , how can you skip the FMVs and is there a big difference to the time you would save when skipping them on a PS2 ?
Are you going the exact same way as on the FAQ? Because I did everything you did but I have less Gil than I should have according to the FAQ, and you seemed to forget to pickup some items later on, did you do it intentionally to get them later?
I keep reading that the challenge is impossible in the PAL region, why is that? I mean I don't have the PAL version, but I'm just curious as to why it's impossible
The framerate is lower so everything moves slightly slower.
It is possible to get the Excalibur II on the PAL version without cheating if you don't go for a perfect game and get all the optional stuff after you get the Excalibur II.
Curse my prolific use of similar names, my cover is blown! I'm more 'powergamer' than challenge player myself, but I enjoy seeing other people suffer through them. It usually teaches me new ways to brute force the game by the end, haha.
@TheFinalfantasyfan01 hey there, have you figures out how to speed up the game yet. I have done every trick in the book and still doesnt work. my characters run at teh same normal pace!

the only difference is you when fmv start you change iso to disk 2 then change back to disk 1 but you have to be fast vice versa for skipping fmvs on different disk
dude i did that and i cant do cause the emulator wnet down and im on disk 3 after alexandria gets destroied and im in limblun now with 8:30 hours i think
ahhhh thanks a lot bud. i will definately try that. ive been using the louis videos so im doing good regardless, ahead of his time by 2minutes so far but im not that far in. jsut stuck at the stupid plant brain part because after like 30 tries i cant get 2 plants after the boss fight D:. ill check out the fmv skip tho, appreciate it.

Perhaps he killed himself because IT GOES FASTER than killing the boss. You get exactly the same result no matter if you die or not. Think about doing a speed run and you notice the game continues normally if you suicide at bosses as if you'd won the battle. Why would you bother killing the damn boss then?
It's by the way not against the law to use your brain.
I've calculated the chances for the succes of FFIX - E2 PG on PAL !!!! It's impossible, with the target time of "1whoistornapart" you've 11:28 hours, ok. Let's calculate *60 = 688 minutes. So you've to calculate *70 and than divide it through /60 = 803 minutes.
Divide it through /60 so now you've 13:20 hours. How the hell can you save 1 hour and 20 minutes with items, i think that's is almost impossible, but it doesn't matter, I'll try it :P
Someone on the GameFAQs boards named big_kake was going to try this, but I haven't heard much from him since he started. You may want to ask about it there.
The best time I know of so far is ~11 hours by rlouisw here on YouTube. He did it without skipping FMVs, but that's the adjusted playtime for IF he had skipped them.
You still have a lot of time to make up though. Basically you will have to skip as many non-unique chests and items as possible, and probably other sacrifices too.
But, there you would stuck on AP-Gaining before you fly to Terra... The fightscenes are so slow even if you have "Fast Disc" activated and you want "Auto-Life" at Quina + Zidane, ok I can do the Yan-Quest, but thats really takes long or the chocobo treasure hunt (oh my god, i hate that part of the game, especially in a speedrun)...
Ok, but now another question, I'm now at my Level 1 Save before Terra (No Excalibur II), very chilling :). Does it matter if you let Garnet the Robe of Lords equipped instead of Minervas Plate? +1 SPD, +1 STR, +1 MAG, +1 WILL.
Can anyone tell me if I miss one item? I think I have all items, but there is still one space open at the bottom right corner of my items/weapons list... Is this supposed to be open or what?
Can't you just wait till the "red clock" appears and restarts the time over at 00:00? I thought that was the way you are supposed to do it...you miss out on so much otherwise
Is a time of 9:16 okay? I am fairly sure I can get that down to 9:00, but I am not sure if I would like to. It would be best because the battle scene in the next video will probably take me around 75 tries. @.@
It's not very fun when you have to subtract many of the elements from your adventure just to over come this challenge, but it is rather worth it. I haven't played this game since I got it. I just started again last week and already wasted 6hrs. completely forgetting about the excalibur2 sword. After I finish the game this time, I'll redo everything. FF's use to be so challenging. This one is no exception. It's really frustrating.
Well the main reason why people do it is because they have beaten the game a lot of times and are just trying something to do. If your like me and my guess 1who who have have beaten the game many times its just a little extra to do.
Hey, everyone. I've been taking this challenge. Yes, it's definitely possible. I've been referencing both this take as well as InvincibleGarland's, and I must say while his has better quality and timing, this session is by far more informative and realistic. Kudos, 1whoistornapart!
Can anyone tell me if Excalibur II is possible even without skipping FMV's? Not Excalibur II perfect game just running through the game really fast as normal.
I can't skip FMV's on the emulator I use so.. >_>
You could always do what I did for this challenge, and torrrent the NTSC version & emulate it using epsxe :). As far as I'm aware, it's not even illegal if you own the original.
i started playing FFIX again recently determinated to abtain excaliburII my ps2 slim is chiped so i can't skip FMV and the game opitions the same thing.
not doing this 2 things can i get excalibur II or it's really really hard?
i'm in evil forest 1 hour and 4 min never had an encounter and i did the bosses really fast like u did,i change my ekipment really fast to can i have a chance getting the sword?
You'll be able to get ExII if you're a good speed runner, as some speed runs get down as low as 10 hours, without skipping. But a perfect game is proabably out of the question.
Of course you can skip the scenes on a slim ps2,I'm doing this challenge right now on my slim one and I got 8:39 in this first part. You should be able to change the options when you turn your ps2 on,just press triangle twice when the browser things appears then change them to fast and smooth if you like. What I do to quickly skip them on a slim is:the moment the scene starts,I open the lid and wait for the scene to completely stop moving, not the disc, then I close it and let it advance just
a bit (the scene) and then I open it again and just close it and I skip them every time. This method I discovered works great for me,not the one that I heard somewhere that tells you to open it,close it,then open again and close it after 2 seconds or when the ps2 makes a second sound, this one doesn't skip them immediately and you'll have to open it more times and it's not that quick either
thank you so much for putting this up, FFIX is my favorite game and i want to have a perfect save. unfortunately i have the slim PS2 and it won't skip scenes, so i'm using my PS1 instead. :D i'm also using your gamefaqs guide, its so helpful thank you!
Hi! First of all, I'd like to say you're awesome! I'm trying to do the same thing and it sure ain't easy=P
Only one question - what about the two items in the little girl's house? You know, in the same place where you talk to a boy who lost his cat, a girl runs out of a house - there are 2 items there. Do you get them later on?
Thank you ^_^. Yes I got them later on. I know I had the opportunity to get in there, but due to some complications which I won't get into here, I recorded this segment AFTER the segment in Disc 3 where I get those two items. I figured people would get confused if I picked up those items twice, so I skipped them this time :P
hey what's the deal with the whole "pausing" thing? does everytime (in a scene) you pause it just when a scene will start means that you can proceed with skipping it?
u missed the stuff in the bar. there was gil, and i think some items in the corners and on one of the tables. its the part where the guy is showing people around dtown and u first control vivi. where u get the 2 items in the grass closest to the screen
how can i follow the guide so that; i learn and max all abilities, acheive max lvls for all characters and max stats(following path d) in guide). and get the items and ultima weps. i cant get excal 2, im not that good, so therefore time isnt really a problem. i was thinking just to get excal 1 or next best for steiner besides excal 2. how would i follow the guide for that
also im playing it on my psp :P so it would be REALLY hard to do it that way originally. but yea i dotn really want a lvl 1 game just maxed everything
The first time i played this game was for fun, the second time was for the Excalibur II, i now i realize that i can finally do it again for perfection. I cannot wait to attempt this challenge when summer comes closer ( or else i would most definitely fail all my ap exams ) just two quick questions, i noticed throughout the game you only use one save file, did u ever make backups on another memory card? also, because you recorded this off the tv, did you have to continuously rewind the tape?
Cool man, good luck with it. Every time a saved on a new slot I transferred the old save to a PS2 Memory Card. The reason for this is that I think it loads the memory card a second or two quicker if there are fewer files on there. If I need to go back and redo something I can just transfer it back from the PS2 card.
As for recording, no, I just let the tape fill up with failed attempts. Recording over old footage shoots the quality to hell and it was bad enough as it is :P
Can somebody give me a advice, is it possible to do this Challenge on a PS2 with a PAL Game?
I started a challenge, but the time was 8:52 Minutes, i just got the money from everywhere and the Phoenix Pinion and Remedy, that's all. I thought i must have a better time....
I changed the PS2 Driver to: Disk Speed "Fast" and TexMapping "Smooth", but the game is so slow :(
Unfortunately the E2PG is impossible in the PAL version. This is because PAL runs 16.67% slower than NTSC but the timer runs at the same speed in both versions. Sorry :(
NTSC it's so much faster, i like it really, PAL probably puts you to bed, it's so slow xD. This is the hardest challenge. I'll try to make a Level 1 - Excalibur II Game, hehe :D, but it will take a long time.
I even did it on ePSXe, without skipping FMV's my time was 11:42 :), on NTSC it's so much easier.
But the worst at all was the Nova Dragon, im supposed it's impossible to beat him without "Night"....
Hey, I just wanted to say that you're my hero. I've been trying to find something like this for a perfect FF9 file. Now if only I can get the damned Friendship item in FF8...
Ah, lemme explain. Shiva and Ramuh will still be there regardless of whether or not you get those three cards in the beginning. But since you can get all five cards at once, it just *saves time* to get them all at once, rather than making two separate trips, as this is a time-based challenge afterall. Does that clear things up?
hi, i'm just about to start a e2 pg using ur video-guides but i would like to know 1 thing - wouldn't getting all characters to lv. 99 be a perfect game? do u keep ur characters at lv. 1 because random encounters take too long or is it just more challenging that way? (this is a challenge after all :P) thanks.
It's about stats. When you level up, your stats increase based on what equipment you are wearing. To maximize stats, you need to wait until you get certain items before leveling up. Leveling up without these items means stats are not perfect. And yes also for speed.
the open cd thing works on my ps2 AND i was bout 5 secs slower on my PAL version too compared to yr 8min 20 odd secs. ima try doing it on the pal. i wont lose sleep over not getting the e2
Are you playing the PAL version or NTSC? You should know that this challenge is frankly impossible to complete in the PAL version. If you're using NTSC then a minute slow isn't the end of the world, but I would still recommend trying to get a better time because things aren't going to get any easier.
I recently started an E2PG, I'm at the ice cavern right now, keep having to reset because Sealion is being stingy with the dagger!
But so far I'm loving playing with this style and your videos have helped a ton. I ended up stealing the Iron Sword from Baku and I'm about 7 seconds behind you at that point. Before that I was about 20 ahead, so I second your point about it being a waste of time.
Another question. Is it still graspable to beat this challenge watching all the FMVs? Because my PS2 is being really rank and not skipping adequately... do you know how many minutes make up all the FMVs perhaps?
Roughly 34 minutes, and yes it is possible. I was ahead of the target times by 30 minutes at one point, and the target times give you 10 minutes to spare. It won't be easy though. AFAIK no one has actually done this yet, so you'd be the first.
Yessss I wanna be a first lol.. thanks. I'm currently stuck on the 2nd Circuit still... keep getting 99 Nobles.. and I hate the distance back to Kupo.. grr.
The PS1 will work but I believe the PS2 helps a lot because of the ability to speed up the disc. To me it seems to go much faster when you skip the FMV's on a PS2, rather than skipping them on a PS1.
Hey 1whoistornapart, long time no see! This was a good idea posting videos of the new-and-improved version of the perfect game. It's too bad I didn't have this as a reference when I completed mine. :)
Hey old buddy! Well, it may be too late for you, but I'm sure that others attempting the challenge in the future will find the videos helpful. Thanks for stopping by, dude! :)
One just ONE thing I need... Time to read the text... Honestly its good allright but I cant stop the vid in time to read the txt and since i have the Francé version I don't know anything bout the plot, backgrounds & ... What does a skill do. SO that bugs me... I was visiting france when i bought the game never thought it would be on that shitty language too I)>_<(I
One of the requirements of the perfect game is to find ALL missable chests and field icons, no matter how useless they are. If I didn't have to worry about all treasures then the challenge would become a lot easier... I still have plenty of time though, don't you worry.
dont really know to much about this quest, but wouldnt you think that getting alot of those items, such as the gil and the cards just lying around to be a waste of time? those arent items you necesarily need since you can get them at almost any point in the game. potions i can understand though.
since time is so crucial wouldnt you think it best to have just skipped those items and get straight to puck?
Simply amazing! Are you 100% sure you can do this? Subscribing to your vids I want to see the rest of the vids! Keep up the great job man! Good luck! 7777 Stars! And btw I send you a friend invite to hope you accept it. ^ ^
Accepted, thank you! And yes I am 110% sure I can do this, I'm actually on Disc 3 now but I just recently acquired the equipment I need to get the videos up.
Perfect games have an "all or nothing" philosophy. If I trigger the scene with Ruby then I'll have to trigger every scene (at least the way I see it) and there isn't enough time for that. It adds no value to the perfect game at all, it's just one extra text box that I would just instantly skip anyway.

You still have a lot of time to make up though. Basically you will have to skip as many non-unique chests and items as possible, and probably other sacrifices too.

Thanks.

NelstaRRRR 3 years ago
Ok, but now another question, I'm now at my Level 1 Save before Terra (No Excalibur II), very chilling :). Does it matter if you let Garnet the Robe of Lords equipped instead of Minervas Plate? +1 SPD, +1 STR, +1 MAG, +1 WILL.

Can anyone tell me if I miss one item? I think I have all items, but there is still one space open at the bottom right corner of my items/weapons list... Is this supposed to be open or what?

I really love how you filmed this :) Now I really want to play FFIX again! Its one of my fav games ever! :D
Sargatha 3 years ago
can you really get all items like card and potion and stealing weapon and even with that getting the exacliburII?i think u might run out of time...
onfire28bm 3 years ago
u get the excalibur ii first then go back and do the rest.
rockingmuggleJEDI 3 years ago
Guess u miss the part where u have to ring the bell on top the tower to retrieve Hippo's 3 cards.
BeyondMyHeaven 3 years ago
They are still there on Disc 3. I get them when I get the Shiva and Ramuh cards.
I realize there are a lot of comments on this video, but it's still kinda annoying having to answer the same questions over and over again.
1whoistornapart 3 years ago
Can't you just wait till the "red clock" appears and restarts the time over at 00:00? I thought that was the way you are supposed to do it...you miss out on so much otherwise
EricB042389 3 years ago
Doesn't work, you need to wait over two years for the timer to truly reset.
1whoistornapart 3 years ago
Is a time of 9:16 okay? I am fairly sure I can get that down to 9:00, but I am not sure if I would like to. It would be best because the battle scene in the next video will probably take me around 75 tries. @.@
Crest2011 3 years ago
It's not very fun when you have to subtract many of the elements from your adventure just to over come this challenge, but it is rather worth it. I haven't played this game since I got it. I just started again last week and already wasted 6hrs. completely forgetting about the excalibur2 sword. After I finish the game this time, I'll redo everything. FF's use to be so challenging. This one is no exception. It's really frustrating.
SHAKHIR2 3 years ago
yes the speed run sounds like a challenge but is it even fun to play the game like this?
BriDirt 3 years ago
yes and rewarding.
rockingmuggleJEDI 3 years ago
Well the main reason why people do it is because they have beaten the game a lot of times and are just trying something to do. If your like me and my guess 1who who have have beaten the game many times its just a little extra to do.

I've been trying to do this on ps3 but I can't seem to skip fmv's. Any tips?
puchu123 3 years ago
Hey, everyone. I've been taking this challenge. Yes, it's definitely possible. I've been referencing both this take as well as InvincibleGarland's, and I must say while his has better quality and timing, this session is by far more informative and realistic. Kudos, 1whoistornapart!

Can anyone tell me if Excalibur II is possible even without skipping FMV's? Not Excalibur II perfect game just running through the game really fast as normal.
I can't skip FMV's on the emulator I use so.. >_>
AnotherTransition 3 years ago
yes it is possible without skipping FMV's there are videos on youtube with that challenge
Dvac23 3 years ago
Yes, it is possible, especialy on NTSC version.
apoil17 3 years ago
Ugh..Living in Europe sucks. Period.
I really wanna do this but I have a PAL playstation 2 and game.
*Wonders if it would be a waste of money getting an NTsc ps1 and game would be a waste of money*
mightymole2 3 years ago
What does it matter what version you have...?
ragnatoad 3 years ago
The PAL console runs the game slower.
mightymole2 3 years ago
You could always do what I did for this challenge, and torrrent the NTSC version & emulate it using epsxe :). As far as I'm aware, it's not even illegal if you own the original.
itsovernow 3 years ago
This may sound like a REALLY stupid questiong but how the hell do you skip through text so fast? I mash X like mad but it's still pretty slow-ish.
AnotherTransition 3 years ago
press X + Square alternatively
KuwaSai 3 years ago
Set Field MEssage Speed on fast.
ragnatoad 3 years ago
your game are really speedy.
It's because of ur ps2 options right?
i started playing FFIX again recently determinated to abtain excaliburII my ps2 slim is chiped so i can't skip FMV and the game opitions the same thing.
not doing this 2 things can i get excalibur II or it's really really hard?
i'm in evil forest 1 hour and 4 min never had an encounter and i did the bosses really fast like u did,i change my ekipment really fast to can i have a chance getting the sword?
sieg321 3 years ago
You'll be able to get ExII if you're a good speed runner, as some speed runs get down as low as 10 hours, without skipping. But a perfect game is proabably out of the question.
TheMoogleKing93 3 years ago
Possibly, but I'm at Evil Forest now, in an E2PG. I think I'm at like 38 minutes, but then again, I'm not sure.
adamsoyutubeaccount 3 years ago
thx i will try again and see what i can do
sieg321 3 years ago
Of course you can skip the scenes on a slim ps2,I'm doing this challenge right now on my slim one and I got 8:39 in this first part. You should be able to change the options when you turn your ps2 on,just press triangle twice when the browser things appears then change them to fast and smooth if you like. What I do to quickly skip them on a slim is:the moment the scene starts,I open the lid and wait for the scene to completely stop moving, not the disc, then I close it and let it advance just
SunSigil 3 years ago
a bit (the scene) and then I open it again and just close it and I skip them every time. This method I discovered works great for me,not the one that I heard somewhere that tells you to open it,close it,then open again and close it after 2 seconds or when the ps2 makes a second sound, this one doesn't skip them immediately and you'll have to open it more times and it's not that quick either
SunSigil 3 years ago
thank you so much for putting this up, FFIX is my favorite game and i want to have a perfect save. unfortunately i have the slim PS2 and it won't skip scenes, so i'm using my PS1 instead. :D i'm also using your gamefaqs guide, its so helpful thank you!

RusekuXxX 3 years ago
Hi! First of all, I'd like to say you're awesome! I'm trying to do the same thing and it sure ain't easy=P
Only one question - what about the two items in the little girl's house? You know, in the same place where you talk to a boy who lost his cat, a girl runs out of a house - there are 2 items there. Do you get them later on?
sephiroth999999 3 years ago
Thank you ^_^. Yes I got them later on. I know I had the opportunity to get in there, but due to some complications which I won't get into here, I recorded this segment AFTER the segment in Disc 3 where I get those two items. I figured people would get confused if I picked up those items twice, so I skipped them this time :P
1whoistornapart 3 years ago
Ok;)
Thanks a lot for your videos, they're really a huge help! And a huge demonstration of your 1337ness;)
sephiroth999999 3 years ago
hey what's the deal with the whole "pausing" thing? does everytime (in a scene) you pause it just when a scene will start means that you can proceed with skipping it?
SunSigil 3 years ago
Haha wow, I personally never knew you could change the disc speed. I only have a PS1 now, but when I did my EX2 run i did it on my brothers PS2.
captainmullet 3 years ago
u missed the stuff in the bar. there was gil, and i think some items in the corners and on one of the tables. its the part where the guy is showing people around dtown and u first control vivi. where u get the 2 items in the grass closest to the screen
caboose607 3 years ago
It's quicker to get those items at the start of Disc 3 so that's when I get them.
1whoistornapart 3 years ago
oh! ok. soz bout that man
caboose607 3 years ago
how can i follow the guide so that; i learn and max all abilities, acheive max lvls for all characters and max stats(following path d) in guide). and get the items and ultima weps. i cant get excal 2, im not that good, so therefore time isnt really a problem. i was thinking just to get excal 1 or next best for steiner besides excal 2. how would i follow the guide for that
caboose607 3 years ago
also im playing it on my psp :P so it would be REALLY hard to do it that way originally. but yea i dotn really want a lvl 1 game just maxed everything
caboose607 3 years ago
A level one game is required for max stats. Just follow the guide and don't worry about the time limit.
1whoistornapart 3 years ago
? how is it requred though, like wouldn't you get stats with lvls
caboose607 3 years ago
lol but neways i cant do the challenge on psp xD u cant skip; fmvs. or at least i dunno how to on the emulator yet :P
caboose607 3 years ago
This challenge is possible without FMV skipping, it's just a lot harder :P
1whoistornapart 3 years ago
I also triggered the Ruby event and did the jump-rope thing, so I had about twelve minutes on my clock when I reached the save point.
TheSilentOne666 3 years ago
The first time i played this game was for fun, the second time was for the Excalibur II, i now i realize that i can finally do it again for perfection. I cannot wait to attempt this challenge when summer comes closer ( or else i would most definitely fail all my ap exams ) just two quick questions, i noticed throughout the game you only use one save file, did u ever make backups on another memory card? also, because you recorded this off the tv, did you have to continuously rewind the tape?
pwnstar143 3 years ago

I changed the PS2 Driver to: Disk Speed "Fast" and TexMapping "Smooth", but the game is so slow :(
Can anyone help me?
Greez Nelson
NelstaRRRR 4 years ago
Unfortunately the E2PG is impossible in the PAL version. This is because PAL runs 16.67% slower than NTSC but the timer runs at the same speed in both versions. Sorry :(
1whoistornapart 4 years ago
Yeah, you're right!
And the easiest opponent -> Lich xD
Thanks and greez

It's not visible on Disc 4 whether you got it or not, so only the exceptionally obsessive-compulsive will bother getting it, which I am not.
1whoistornapart 4 years ago
what about hippauls hidden cards in the steeple bell?
omegaSEAL1988 4 years ago
They are still there on Disc 3, I get them when I get the Shiva and Ramuh cards.
1whoistornapart 4 years ago
oh i dint know that the shiva and ramuh cards werent there if u snatched the 3 at the beginning. thnx
omegaSEAL1988 4 years ago
Ah, lemme explain. Shiva and Ramuh will still be there regardless of whether or not you get those three cards in the beginning. But since you can get all five cards at once, it just *saves time* to get them all at once, rather than making two separate trips, as this is a time-based challenge afterall. Does that clear things up?

1whoistornapart 4 years ago
hi, i'm just about to start a e2 pg using ur video-guides but i would like to know 1 thing - wouldn't getting all characters to lv. 99 be a perfect game? do u keep ur characters at lv. 1 because random encounters take too long or is it just more challenging that way? (this is a challenge after all :P) thanks.
jaemae39 4 years ago
It's about stats. When you level up, your stats increase based on what equipment you are wearing. To maximize stats, you need to wait until you get certain items before leveling up. Leveling up without these items means stats are not perfect. And yes also for speed.

thanks

If i've done this period over 10 minutes is that very bad????
sephiroth014 4 years ago
Are you playing the PAL version or NTSC? You should know that this challenge is frankly impossible to complete in the PAL version. If you're using NTSC then a minute slow isn't the end of the world, but I would still recommend trying to get a better time because things aren't going to get any easier.

I just wanted to thank you for your videos.

LongLiveJM 4 years ago
Roughly 34 minutes, and yes it is possible. I was ahead of the target times by 30 minutes at one point, and the target times give you 10 minutes to spare. It won't be easy though. AFAIK no one has actually done this yet, so you'd be the first.
1whoistornapart 4 years ago
Yessss I wanna be a first lol.. thanks. I'm currently stuck on the 2nd Circuit still... keep getting 99 Nobles.. and I hate the distance back to Kupo.. grr.

Hey does it have to be done on a ps2? Will an old gray ps1 work? Great videos by the way
boojan58 4 years ago
The PS1 will work but I believe the PS2 helps a lot because of the ability to speed up the disc. To me it seems to go much faster when you skip the FMV's on a PS2, rather than skipping them on a PS1.

One of the requirements of the perfect game is to find ALL missable chests and field icons, no matter how useless they are. If I didn't have to worry about all treasures then the challenge would become a lot easier... I still have plenty of time though, don't you worry.
1whoistornapart 4 years ago
dont really know to much about this quest, but wouldnt you think that getting alot of those items, such as the gil and the cards just lying around to be a waste of time? those arent items you necesarily need since you can get them at almost any point in the game. potions i can understand though.
since time is so crucial wouldnt you think it best to have just skipped those items and get straight to puck?

should you not get the secret scene with Ruby in the begening?
flak76e 4 years ago
Perfect games have an "all or nothing" philosophy. If I trigger the scene with Ruby then I'll have to trigger every scene (at least the way I see it) and there isn't enough time for that. It adds no value to the perfect game at all, it's just one extra text box that I would just instantly skip anyway.
