I loved the wizard of oz, but I HATED this musical (and I realize I will get flamed and marked as spam for my view point). It was campy, over-acted, over-sung, and i couldn't follow or hear wtf was going on between each song. Worse, every song sounded the same, with the witch bellowing some sanctimonious lyric into the fade out, seeing how high of a note she could hit and hold. It was weepy and cheesy, and emotionally monotonous. Huge let down, I wanted to love it.

@goodnamestaken the books have a completely different feel to them. the writing is beautiful and timely. there's a sadder quality to the novel that i feel the musical can't reach in the same sense.

After reading the book, I can't see how they ever made a musical out of it - there's alot of screwing going on. Elphaba's momma was a scank and Elphaba herself had a child. The book read like soft porn, but it was a good read anyway. If you read the cover, it says "Adult Fiction." It sure was!

It'll probably be something like they did with the Rent movie version...same songs, story etc but just modified to make it movie like.

It'll be a good few years before it's made yet though, like you said they need to get as much as they can out of the stage version.

@SeiPR727 I'm hoping the musical. More of the theatre crowd will see the movie if it's the musical and I found that storyline much more interesting than the book. On the other hand, though, the political overtones the book has would make for a good storyline on film and without the musical aspect, would draw a much larger crowd. Hmmm. I still think I would prefer the musical, though.

on imdb it says 2016, and that souns right to me. it says Wicked (2010) but then if you look down at realease date it says 2016
