...if you are going to tip then you need to tip everyone not just people that you deem worthy...why do people feel obligated to tip a certain profession but not others?...dont you think that someone that makes 10,000 a year would appreciated your tips more than someone that makes 100,000 a year?...doesn't makes sense to me for people to be a selective tipper...just my two cents...
In my country, we don't tip. I don't necessarily support it, but I make over minimum wage as a waitress so it's okay. I'd certainly tip if I traveled, especially in the US where people work their ass off and rely on tips to live.
Waiters aren't even needed. If I had the choice, I'd rather line-up, tell the cook directly what I want to eat, go sit back down, wait for a buzzer on my table to ring & then go collect my food when it has been prepared. As for bartenders, they also are not needed. If I want a beer it should be self-service, I should walk up to a fridge, select my drink & pay the cashier. I'll tip if my service is exceptionally good as an incentive but mandatory tipping is ridiculous for unneeded services.
That doesn't make sense. Most people don't know how to make cocktails and bartenders are very skilled in that area. They have to learn to make every cocktail there is, as well as have vast wine, spirit and beer knowledge. You don't realize that because you probably just drink Carlton Draught.
Also, most people go out to restaurants because they want good food and to be waited on. The hospitality in a certain town can make or break its income. So you are part of the huge minority of people who think waiters are unnecessary.
@eezysqueezy I wonder why? Why can't employers pay their employees a decent wage like every other job does? I don't go to MacDonalds and give the server girl there a tip do I? Why not, because she is doing a job. Why should we have to pay any extra for that? Their job is to wait on us. In fact where I live, if I were to accept tips from my patients, not only would my ethics be brought into question but I could face legal prosecution. I would be a disgrace to my profession.
@AussieGossie You have 'patients', therefore you are most likely not in a job where tips are NEEDED. Not appreciated, but needed to live. You're probably quite comfortable, financially. Given this, can't you just appreciate the amount of stupid shit these people have to deal with on a day to day basis for very little money and maybe just be just a little less mof an ass about the situation.
@eezysqueezy America needs to be fixed from the ground up... Let's not blame the hard workers but the mega corporations who lobby the government to reduce regulations that mean waiters/waitresses earn below the nation minimum wage. How about them being taxed on their tips, is that not criminal in itself if tips are all they have to live on then?
@thebest545 Then why not let that be the case instead of a system that favours others? You put the nail on the head mate. I still think America is a great nation though but greed will eventually destroy it, no doubt.
I wish it really was the case. Every other business in the US has to make cost decisions based on covering wages as well as having a profit. For some reason the restaurant business here doesn't count and we should tip no matter what and not because we are giving a little extra for great service.
Actually, it really is considered rude to tip in Australia and I am guessing that is where he is from considering he has "aussie" in his name. The employers pay a higher wage and then charge more for the food. I wish that we had it the same in the US.
I tip if they got my food to me quick. I have a friend that gets pay shit but he works at a strip club has a cook you can't complain about that. but a waitress there had the nerve to tell me I need to tip her and the bartender.
lets see, l had to tell my friend, what I want he then has to let the Bartender or waitress What I ordered, he gets me my food sometimes before I even paid. I tip he because of the fast service, waiting to get an order in 5-10, mins.
You don't tip, you're cheap. End of story. You can afford to eat out, you can afford an extra couple of bucks. Is it a crime some places tell service workers they lose their job if they accept tips? Yeah. I'd tip good service at McDonalds, because usually the service sucks, because there's no reason to bust your ass and deliver good service. Firing is arbitrary, and you get raises for length of employment, not quality. Just manage to not get fired long enough and you get a raise.
Fun Fact: When im serving a cheap fucker i take their drink cup back to the employee restrooms and wash it in the toilet and then i go ahead and fill it with their beverage of choice. AND btw that bathroom hasnt been cleaned in over a year and has been clogged for that past week. so yeah i look forward to seeing all you cheap bastards haha
@100lithium "When im serving a cheap @#$%er i take their drink cup back to the employee restrooms and wash it in the toilet ... and btw that bathroom hasnt been cleaned in over a year."
Maybe if you guys cleaned the bathroom more often, patrons might be more inclined to leave tips. Just a thought.
Tarantino is a genius to be thinking on this level. I'm a bar tender working in a private club often on my own to almost 100 customers some nights, where the standard tip is 50p and most don't tip. £10 is a good night. And I am grateful. I make just over minimum wage and I'm sure the same people tipping me sit down in their favorite restaurants and pay 15 or 20%. So the question is whether tips are there to subsidize the pay of people on low incomes or to recognize and reward peoples efforts.
The lesson *I* got was that if you're a gangster and you're with a bunch of other gangsters, and they all do something, *you do what they do*. One measly buck isn't worth getting one's thumbs broken. Sheesh.
@wikiporno2 your an idoit... personally i think 80% of the homeless people do shit to themselves to make them homeless... (are a few who really have problems, but most are druggies, or alcholics who blow everything on their addiction instead of seaking help.. ) and FYI, servers in almost all resturants gets paid only on average $3.00-$4.00 an hour.. you jerk, my check is $20-$25 a WEEK!!, but yet i garentee i make more than you do a week...
@DairIk22 Do me a favor, take all the money you'd have wasted on tipping and give it to the homeless. Hell, if you feel bad about giving them money, spend the money you'd have wasted on a tip on some more food and give them that. If they turn down food then they're panhaddling. Simple as that. I'm just not gonna give my money to someone who already has money when there's a guy down the street eatting the skin off his own hand with a swiss army knife.
@wikiporno2 your an idiot... i give food/money to homeless all the time, and i still tip.. why cant you do both??? since you are "helping the homeless" in turn you could make a server homeless by not having money for rent... since we DONT GET A PAY CHECK!!
@DairIk22 I feel that tipping is a waste of charity is all. As for not getting a pay cheque (learn to spell please) I'm pretty sure it's illegal for your boss not to pay you dude.
@wikiporno2 pay check... it is spelled right you fucking idiot... they do pay us.. like i have said.. i get paid $3.75 an hour.. my checks are around $20-$25 a week... they pay us the bare minimum they have to. Servers minimum wage is i believe $3.75 an hour now in OHIO...so DUDE, they do pay us.. but after taxes, and insurance, 401k and all that, most servers usually get a very very low pay check.. sometimes yes, it is $0
@Ichiboy900 in fucki' toronto, you can eat at a new restaurant every day and not have to go back to the same one in years and years. .. i never never fuckin' tip.
Tipping is bullshit, I work a minimum wage job and about half of what I do is bagging and then carrying out those bags to someones car and loading it up, or following them through the store if they're old and being they're personal shopper, and if I accept a tip I can lose my job over it.
@occult40 agree... tipping is bullshit .. if waiters want more pay ... Get another fuckin job! or ask your boss for a raise .. either way .. not my fuckin' problem!
@torontothegood your a fucking idiot too just like 99 percent of these idiots on these fucking comments SERVERS CANT GET A RAISE.. WE GET PAID THE BARE MINIMUM OF WHAT WE CAN.. WE DEPEND ON ASSHOLES LIKE YOU TO MAKE MONEY TO PAY OUR BILLS!!!!! FUCKING INBRED IDIOT FUCK!
I've always been a tipper but pink is right, the system is just stupid and screwed. 2 years ago I went to Japan and when I got back I had the hardest time getting into tipping again, the customer service was AMAZING and the waitresses/cab drivers/street vendors etc refused tips.
Maybe if our society considered people with blue collar type jobs to have pride instead of shame, they would do a good job WITHOUT needing tips and can get paid what they deserve.
Pink is wrong. People who get tips generally don't even make minimum wage. Minimum wage in America is 7.25, and there are exemptions in the law for people who earn tips. A pizza delivery man makes 4.25. Delivery promise time is 30-40 minutes. So if you get tipped once every hour, delivering one $10 pizza, and said tip is very generous, you're up to minimum wage.
@commissarusa My job is to complete tasks in a quick and efficient manner with the highest quality of work I can muster using my skill set. In exchange, I get paid a certain compensation which hopefully reflects on my quality of work. How is that any different from waitressing?
If nobody tipped, then what you've described (lower than minimum wage) would change immediately. Tipping is what caused the problem; it isn't the solution to it.
@commissarusa I never said it wasn't used as an excuse. In fact, I completely agreed with that sentiment. But if tipping didn't exist, would companies not be forced to pay higher wages to make up for it?
@commissarusa i work min wage job, but i dont get tips.....wtf is that? why the hell do you have to tip some waiter to bring you food, for which you are already paying ridiculous cash...i mean....30 bucks for a steak?......thats not a cheap dinner my friend......
One thing that bothers me is the fact that society says we have to tip based on the amount on the check. Just because the cook is making a fancier meal at a steak place all of a sudden means we should tip them more than a waiter at Denny's. A waiter at Denny's does the exact same thing as a waiter at a steak place except they don't dress up as fancy.
Another thing I don't like is that society says that you have to tip based on the percentage of the bill. A family of 4 going to a nice steakhouse could have to tip $15 to $20, but if that same family goes to Denny's then they are only expected to tip about $5 or so. How does one waiter/waitress get screwed just because the cook just so happens to make a more expensive meal?
@thebest545 a place like Dennys gets quality, over quantity... simply meaning they probably get 40 of those $5 tips, and the server at the steak house gets probably 4 of those $20 tips...
If they get 40 $5 tips compared to 4 $20 tips like at steak places, then you are saying the ones at Denny's work a lot harder and have faster turnover.
@DairIk22 In theroy yes, but actually working in both types of places i will say no.... Dennys, you come to the table, get the drink order/food order... ring it in. It comes out and you re fill drinks when needed... say a steak place, (or the place i work) we have to spend 2-4 min. just going over the menues, and specials... Dennys get the "in and out' business, and the steak place gets the "let them enjoy dinner for an hour or so buisness" like i said, its fast $5 tips, almost doing nothing...
whoever doesn't tip is a peice of shit! PERIOD!! everyone should work for tips once just to see what it's like to get stiffed by some asshole when they god damn KNOW that it is the only money they make. i get paid $4.35 an hour on top of my tips so i basically get a $0 paycheck. i tipped well before i knew worked for them.
@DairIk22 abso-fuckin-lutely! .. please respect my choice NOT to tip and my habit of hanging around watching the puzzled looks on waiters' faces when they discover they aint gettin' a fuckin' tip ... i laff my ass off every time i eat out seeing this reaction. i'm gonna start videorecording some of this ship and post of YouTube, just for you!
So you make $0 on your paycheck but you still work? I call BS. If you made nothing then you would cash in on your unemployment checks instead of showing up to work every day.
@thebest545 next $0 check i get illl post a picture so you can see it.. Taxes and Insurance are took out of servers check.. so yea, we might get 30 hours a week at $4.. but with that $120 dollars ALL taxes are took out of what were claim, and if you have insurance that gets took out too.. so usually a $12-$20 check is all i get, Alot of people with better insurance gets voided checks ($0)
@ashleyyaeger Sorry, it's not the costumer that stiffs you, it's the way things are run. The employers should pay their staff properly instead of relying on tip, and if that means jack up the prices to compensate, whatever, just don't /expect/ to receive a tip for a 'satisfactory' performance.
The only thing I don't like is when the tip is included in the bill. I tip. I tip very well but because I choose to. Let ME be the one to decide what I leave behind. I never under tip anyways.
It's not just serving your table. It's serving a minimum of 4 others on a busy day. Waiters/Waitresses have to multi task and be really good at it. They have to see to it that everyones food is ordered, drinks are filled, and check is dropped off within a timely manner. It can get a bit overwhelming when they have to deal with 6 tables at once.
I believe in tipping because you aren't just getting a meal. You don't have to go out to the grocery store, you don't have to cook the food, you don't have to clean up, you don't have to set the table, you don't have to wrap all the leftovers in tin foil... the point is, it's more than just the food, it's a business. I understand they're doing their jobs but don't feed me the bullshit that you want to be treated like royalty when you go out to eat, and then don't have the audacity to tip after.
@yankeesfan6300 Tips are a little extra for going above and beyond the call of duty. I work in a hospital, I go above and beyond every single day and I have never received a tip once. Why the fuck not? It's a business, and the patients literally ARE treated like royalty.
Don't feed me this bullshit that just because you serve me a fucking meal that cost me 2x as much as it would have if I made it myself, that you deserve 20-25% of the total bill. All you did was bring me the god damn plate.
For everything you have said confirms the reason that I shouldn't tip. I'm already paying £30 for a meal which would cost £5 to cook myself. I'm happy to pay the £25 to the restaurant to treat me like royalty but I see no point why I should randomly pay an extra £5 to the staff. There wages should be included in the expensive cost of the meal.
If the staff dont like it they can go get a new job.
@sjm4821 lol Europeans. Please never visit America ever. You are a scumbag if you don't tip in the US. Protip: the government allows employers to pay workers BELOW MINIMUM WAGE because they expect tips to make up for the difference. If you don't tip, you're personally screwing the waiter out of a living. Enjoy being a fucking scumbag, scumbag.
@fishyman2k5 How's it the customer's fault the waiters aren't being payed well enough? If you want to bitch to someone, bitch the manager, or the government, just don't bitch the customers who are already paying for their meal.
For all of you guys who get angry with Tarantino for this scene: writer's don't always agree with the characters they're writing. In fact, they usually don't. So don't equate Tarantino with a fictional character he wrote for a movie.
I don't care much for tipping either. Although, when I find someone very nice and efficient and good, then I'll tip. When I was in Paris, I tipped every waiter because they were so nice and very helpful; and when I tipped them, they were very grateful and thanked me a lot (and I didn't give more that 15%, if that). I only really tip because these people handle my food and if I ever decide to go back there I don't want any waiter with a grudge on me and messing with my food.
@marcelthemaoist Ditto on that, 15% to me is kind of like saying "you were nothing special." 20% is a big thank you. I don't go over 25% though. That's a little ridiculous.
@yankeesfan6300 I will only tip 13% if the service/food was rather disappointing, I won't tip nothing unless they did something really terrible. Otherwise %20 percent is normal but sometimes I'll tip more if it was really good.
I'm usually a big tipper by middle class terms. Hell, even most times I take care of it myself =/ but I gotta say, I like the logic behind the whole scene. I wouldn't mind taking that frame of mind with me when I go out, but I hate the feeling of not leaving one since I usually do.
Except one particular waitress. She was extremely bad at the job.
I see the logic behind not tipping - believe me, i don't tip half the time. But stop with arguments like "they already make enough money". They don't. Them making a living is completely based off of our tips. That's fucked up, but that's how it is and it's not changing. Like Mr. Pink, I generally don't tip unless the service is outstanding, and that's because I'm a cheap bastard who doesn't really give a shit, and get real, that's what it comes down to for everyone who doesn't tip.
Restaurants need to just charge a little more for their food and pay the servers a decent wage. If a server doesn't give you good service, then you complain to the manager and they lose that job. Problem solved.
@CharlesVariations Like he says in that scene, I'll tip for exceptional service. If I'm really wow'd by it, or I can tell the waiter or waitress is REALLY busting their ass to give the best possible service, they've earned it. But I agree that we should NOT be EXPECTED to pay it.
Your wages can't sustain your lifestyle? You probably need to change your job or lifestyle! Many people refer to 'making a living', also known as 'making more than a living'. This entails buying overpriced branded products, going out and getting drunk at least once a week, buying bottled water/juice/soda instead of drinking tap water, buying music, having cable subscription and many other modcons. If you have cut this crap and still can't sustain yourself - GET ANOTHER JOB OR APPLY FOR WELFARE
How can ppl disagree with the tipping concept? You are paying for more than just food. You are paying so you don't have to go grocery shopping, so you don't have to plan and PREPARE a meal, do you don't have to box up all the leftovers and store in your fridge,so you don't have to CLEAN UP AND DO THE DISHES.You are paying for food that is more expensive than buying it in the store. You are paying for a SERVICE.
@missy4145 Yes you are paying the company for the service, not the employees. When you go to the mechanic you are paying for a service but you don't tip him.
@AnotherSchmoe Exactly my point. Why the hell would you pay 8 dollars for something when you could pay less than one just by making it at home? Why? because you don't want to go to the store, you don't want to prepare it, you don't want to clean up. At a restaurant, you have everything done for you. Now if the server fed it to you, would you be willing to tip? That would take ALL the work out and all you would have to do is chew and swallow. :)
No, MY point is that if I'm paying an exorbitant price for the meal, then I'm ALREADY paying the wages for the workers. At that point, if the waiters feel they aren't making enough, they should complain to their boss, not me, because I'm already paying through the nose.
@AnotherSchmoe Uh, no, you're NOT actually paying the wages of the workers. Fun Fact: the US government allows restaurants to pay workers BELOW minimum wage because tipping is fully expected to make up the difference. You don't tip, then you're scum.
The US Government REQUIRES restaurants to pay workers minimum wage if their tips fail to make up the difference. If a worker receives no tips, they still get paid. It's the law.
See, this is the idiot mentality I cannot agree with. The pro-tipping crowd would rather get mad at a paying customer and tell them to stay home than they would to tell their boss to actually pay them their proper wages. Yeah, tell me to stay home and ensure that no one makes a penny, that's a great counter argument.
@Ryansax1983 We already get fucked up the ass by the prices on the menu, we pay the amount contractually obligated by the bill for our food. But we're cheap. Just because we won't do your manager's job for him and pay your properly. You know why you people bitch at customers who don't tip? Because we can't fire you for it. You're just too cowardly to confront the real problem.
@missy4145 When I was a McDonalds employee I served food, cooked food, washed dishes, cleaned toilets, swept the parking lot, swept the dining area, worked the register, dealt with complaints, stocked the freezer, cleaned the windows, and left work everyday smelling like grease and garbage. All that and we gave "service with a smile". Is that not considered a "service"? Why dont they get tipped?
@aapiment17 A fast food employee and a restaurant SERVER are two different jobs. People don't go to McDonald's for graduation parties, birthdays, anniversaries, and other celebrations. They go to restaurants for special occasions for the experience. Taking an order and sticking a fast food meal on a tray and calling a number is not the same thing as waiting tables. Plus, I have side work and cleaning duties too! The difference still remains in the experience between fastfood vs restaurant
@missy4145 So then why don't you tip your garbage man?? Or your mail man? You wanna send mail? Well too bad get on a fucking plane/boat and go talk to the guy face to face since you don't want to tip your mailman. There's not one even decent reason for tipping at restaurants. It's all status bullshit that probably started when some rich white suburban people wanted to look good in front of other people. You want more money? Get a real job and stop taking handouts. I do tip though.
All you people who don't tip, i hope you all choke on your f-ing lemon in your water... those who serve, know what im talking about... we get paid less than $4 an hour! we rely on your tips to live.. and dont say "then quit" well if the job market didnt blow dick then maybe i would, but i had to take what i could get... %20 is a respectable tip, if your service did suck, then %15..
@Nickl245 I'm in school you fucking idiot for nuring, so when i graduate i can garentee i will be tripling the amount of money i make over you.. your a fucking idiot and get a life instead of watching youtube all day.. hence is why i posted this commet 5 months after you did, i dont have time to live on the internet.. and fYI i will take making over $1000 a week and only having to work about 23-34 hrs a week so HAHA FUCK YOU!
@DairIk22 When I was a McDonalds employee I served food, cooked food, washed dishes, cleaned toilets, swept the parking lot, swept the dining area, worked the register, dealt with complaints, stocked the freezer, cleaned the windows, emptied trash cans, and left work everyday smelling like grease and garbage. All that and we gave "service with a smile". Is that not considered a "service"? Why dont they get tipped?
@DairIk22 If my service is GREAT, I'll tip 20%, maybe a little more. If it sucks, screw you, you're not getting shit. I'm not paying extra money on top of the overpriced menu just because you managed to carry a try without collapsing from exhaustion.
@Bttscks i agree with you... if MY service sucks, sorry nothing for you... its there job to do a good job... as for the menu, dont take that out on the server, we dont make the prices for the food! :)
Im british and its true you only should tip for a good overall service since the person will know they are doing a better job than just tipping them even though they are doing a crap job
tips should not count towards wages the company should pay their staff their going rate and tips should be a bonus, that's how it it is in the uk, I have noticed that some restaurants are adding a 10% gratuity to the bill now which cracks me up if the service was shit you shouldn't have to go through the embarrastment of asking for it to be taken off. It should be up to you who and how much you tip, I worked in a cafe for years and we didn't get any tips.
I don't Like because society says I have to. All right, if a video deserves a Like, if they really put forth an effort, I'll give them something a little something extra. But this Liking automatically, it's for the birds. As far as I'm concerned, they're just doing their job.
Most of the people here who are against tipping probably ask for the cheapest drink in the house and order french fries for dinner. Keep your 2 bucks. Thanks
@platolol Most of the people here who are for tipping are probably under-qualified fuck-ups who couldn't get a real job and now complain that other people won't give them their own hard earned money for managing to perfom a task which, in the span of the next several decades will likely be replaced by simple machines.
I don't like tipping either. Sometimes I'll leave the change. But either tip everyone or no one at all. Or add a service charge that's equal for everyone and clearly displayed at the entrance, so you know when to expect it. A random gratuity system is just bogus. It's not fair on the customer or on the worker, who shouldn't have to rely on the patron's generosity to make a living. In some countries, it's considered rude to tip. Waiters seem to make a living for themselves regardless.
the joke of this video is ON Mr. Pink,. Waiters don't make min wage, they make much less. McDonalds is NOT a hard job compared to waiting tables. This whole scene is void. Sorry if you don't tip
tarantino's behaviour at the end is pretty funny!!! he looks like he totally lost his serious and just admire his cast perform with the feeling that he just made the best movies opening ever!!!
Mr. Pink is wrong. Service staff make much less than minimum wage and McDonalds employees take orders, the don't serve. Plus they make much more than servers. Up to as much as 15 bucks an hour. Anyone who doesn't tip is just a cheap fuck and should stay home and cook their own meals.
@platolol did you listen to it? "it would appear waitresses are one of the many groups the government fucks in the ass on a regular basis" that applies to service staff making less than minimum wage. The only reason their employers are getting away with paying waiter/waitresses less than minimum wage is because people feel obligated to tip.
@RunningP123456 I did listen to it, he's actually referring to the fact they have to pay taxes on their tips, not that they make less than minimum wage. There is no reference to that fact in this scene. In fact, the argument in this clip is based on the idea that they DO make minimum wage
@platolol I really dont care what he's arguing, The Government should give service staff minimum wage and save us the trouble of tipping. You should be mad at you're employer for giving you such shit pay, find a new job and stop bitching.
@RunningP123456 99/100 tip because they aren't poor hippies. I don't wait tables anymore. Stop going out to eat and dumpster dive like you should be doing.
@platolol No, you're the one who's wrong. Wait staff make at least minimum wage; if they don't make it in tips, then legally the employer has to make up the difference (go look it up). So in no circumstance could a waiter possibly make less than a McDonalds employee, and in most cases they will make a massive amount more, especially since most of the tips go undeclared and thus are tax free.
@tml4873 all credit card tips are declared, they have to be. You're right, a waiter will almost never make less than a McDonalds employee, given that people tip. Under law, the restaurant is obligated to pay minimum wage given that the server has absolutely NO customers, not if they don't make tips. If the server records a sale, then they are going to make their 2.xx an hour. That's how it works, legally
@tml4873 and stop referencing this thread as your resource, you're just reciting what other people in this videos thread has said as far as making up the difference. I'm sure you're not looking up legal notices on your free time so stop trying to look smart. It varies state to state....so ..... look it up and think for yourself this time, smarty pants
@platolol This is why I hate waiters and waitresses. They're all a bunch of self-entitled little cocks, who think that anyone who doesn't hand them money which they are in no way obligated to at all, is a cheap fuck, even if the service is only passable, and the food overpriced, because the government and the employers are fucking you up the ass and unlike them, we can't fire you for bitching to us about it.
he pretty much nails why people do what they do. Waitresses can get another job if they wanted, but serving tables is easy enough to get away with doing nothing, yet getting paid decent fluctuations of money, hence why they don't quit. And secondly, why people do the things they do. Just because its a "custom" doesn't mean it has to be done by everyone.
Tipping is fine if they do above average work, but to do your job and demand a gratuity is just ridiculous.

@AussieGossie You sound like a phenomenal douchebag who'd have everyone in the service industry ouy of a job in no time.
eezysqueezy 1 month ago
@eezysqueezy I wonder why? Why can't employers pay their employees a decent wage like every other job does? I don't go to MacDonalds and give the server girl there a tip do I? Why not, because she is doing a job. Why should we have to pay any extra for that? Their job is to wait on us. In fact where I live, if I were to accept tips from my patients, not only would my ethics be brought into question but I could face legal prosecution. I would be a disgrace to my profession.
AussieGossie 1 month ago
@AussieGossie You have 'patients', therefore you are most likely not in a job where tips are NEEDED. Not appreciated, but needed to live. You're probably quite comfortable, financially. Given this, can't you just appreciate the amount of stupid shit these people have to deal with on a day to day basis for very little money and maybe just be just a little less mof an ass about the situation.
eezysqueezy 1 month ago
@eezysqueezy America needs to be fixed from the ground up... Let's not blame the hard workers but the mega corporations who lobby the government to reduce regulations that mean waiters/waitresses earn below the nation minimum wage. How about them being taxed on their tips, is that not criminal in itself if tips are all they have to live on then?
AussieGossie 1 month ago
@AussieGossie
The worker still has to make minimum wage. If the person doesn't get it in tips then the employer has to make up the difference by law.
thebest545 2 weeks ago
@thebest545 Then why not let that be the case instead of a system that favours others? You put the nail on the head mate. I still think America is a great nation though but greed will eventually destroy it, no doubt.
AussieGossie 2 weeks ago
@AussieGossie
I wish it really was the case. Every other business in the US has to make cost decisions based on covering wages as well as having a profit. For some reason the restaurant business here doesn't count and we should tip no matter what and not because we are giving a little extra for great service.
thebest545 2 weeks ago
@eezysqueezy

I tip he because of the fast service, waiting to get an order in 5-10, mins.
jdoggtwo 1 month ago
You don't tip, you're cheap. End of story. You can afford to eat out, you can afford an extra couple of bucks. Is it a crime some places tell service workers they lose their job if they accept tips? Yeah. I'd tip good service at McDonalds, because usually the service sucks, because there's no reason to bust your ass and deliver good service. Firing is arbitrary, and you get raises for length of employment, not quality. Just manage to not get fired long enough and you get a raise.

THIS IS MY FAVORITE scene, besides when he shoots at the cops , the only scenes I watch from the whole movie....AND MY EXACT OPINION ON TIPPING!!!!
idmji89 3 months ago
Tarantino is a genius to be thinking on this level. I'm a bar tender working in a private club often on my own to almost 100 customers some nights, where the standard tip is 50p and most don't tip. £10 is a good night. And I am grateful. I make just over minimum wage and I'm sure the same people tipping me sit down in their favorite restaurants and pay 15 or 20%. So the question is whether tips are there to subsidize the pay of people on low incomes or to recognize and reward peoples efforts.

DairIk22 2 months ago
@DairIk22 Do me a favor, take all the money you'd have wasted on tipping and give it to the homeless. Hell, if you feel bad about giving them money, spend the money you'd have wasted on a tip on some more food and give them that. If they turn down food then they're panhaddling. Simple as that. I'm just not gonna give my money to someone who already has money when there's a guy down the street eatting the skin off his own hand with a swiss army knife.
wikiporno2 2 months ago
@wikiporno2 your an idiot... i give food/money to homeless all the time, and i still tip.. why cant you do both??? since you are "helping the homeless" in turn you could make a server homeless by not having money for rent... since we DONT GET A PAY CHECK!!

I've always been a tipper but pink is right, the system is just stupid and screwed. 2 years ago I went to Japan and when I got back I had the hardest time getting into tipping again, the customer service was AMAZING and the waitresses/cab drivers/street vendors etc refused tips.
Maybe if our society considered people with blue collar type jobs to have pride instead of shame, they would do a good job WITHOUT needing tips and can get paid what they deserve.
aspiredrotary 3 months ago
With a goatee like that, you expect him to tip?
Cruisemissleking 3 months ago
Pink is wrong. People who get tips generally don't even make minimum wage. Minimum wage in America is 7.25, and there are exemptions in the law for people who earn tips. A pizza delivery man makes 4.25. Delivery promise time is 30-40 minutes. So if you get tipped once every hour, delivering one $10 pizza, and said tip is very generous, you're up to minimum wage.
Also, Cracked.

Tipping is what caused the problem; it isn't the solution to it.
grawss 3 months ago

No, it wouldn't. Tipping is used as an excuse for companies trying to cut down on labor costs to pay less than minimum wage.

@victortsoyiscool

I believe in tipping as a means to comment on the service. If the service sucks tip something like 50 cents to show how much their service was worth.
If it truly was outstanding then tip them some something like 20 dollars or whatever you feel its was worth.
But there is no rule or law that says you should have do it and how mcuh nor should their be.

999newaccount 3 months ago
Another thing I don't like is that society says that you have to tip based on the percentage of the bill. A family of 4 going to a nice steakhouse could have to tip $15 to $20, but if that same family goes to Denny's then they are only expected to tip about $5 or so. How does one waiter/waitress get screwed just because the cook just so happens to make a more expensive meal?
thebest545 3 months ago
@thebest545 a place like Dennys gets quality, over quantity... simply meaning they probably get 40 of those $5 tips, and the server at the steak house gets probably 4 of those $20 tips...
DairIk22 2 months ago
@DairIk22
If they get 40 $5 tips compared to 4 $20 tips like at steak places, then you are saying the ones at Denny's work a lot harder and have faster turnover.
thebest545 2 months ago
@DairIk22 In theroy yes, but actually working in both types of places i will say no.... Dennys, you come to the table, get the drink order/food order... ring it in. It comes out and you re fill drinks when needed... say a steak place, (or the place i work) we have to spend 2-4 min. just going over the menues, and specials... Dennys get the "in and out' business, and the steak place gets the "let them enjoy dinner for an hour or so buisness" like i said, its fast $5 tips, almost doing nothing...
DairIk22 2 months ago
If the waiters/waitresses want more money then they should go to their employer. It's his/her job to give you a fair wage and not the customer.

DairIk22 2 months ago
@ashleyyaeger Sorry, it's not the costumer that stiffs you, it's the way things are run. The employers should pay their staff properly instead of relying on tip, and if that means jack up the prices to compensate, whatever, just don't /expect/ to receive a tip for a 'satisfactory' performance.

It's not just serving your table. It's serving a minimum of 4 others on a busy day. Waiters/Waitresses have to multi task and be really good at it. They have to see to it that everyones food is ordered, drinks are filled, and check is dropped off within a timely manner. It can get a bit overwhelming when they have to deal with 6 tables at once.
rockabillylaker 5 months ago
I believe in tipping because you aren't just getting a meal. You don't have to go out to the grocery store, you don't have to cook the food, you don't have to clean up, you don't have to set the table, you don't have to wrap all the leftovers in tin foil... the point is, it's more than just the food, it's a business. I understand they're doing their jobs but don't feed me the bullshit that you want to be treated like royalty when you go out to eat, and then don't have the audacity to tip after.
yankeesfan6300 6 months ago
@yankeesfan6300 Tips are a little extra for going above and beyond the call of duty. I work in a hospital, I go above and beyond every single day and I have never received a tip once. Why the fuck not? It's a business, and the patients literally ARE treated like royalty.
Don't feed me this bullshit that just because you serve me a fucking meal that cost me 2x as much as it would have if I made it myself, that you deserve 20-25% of the total bill. All you did was bring me the god damn plate.
j3buswtf 6 months ago 2
@yankeesfan6300

AnotherSchmoe 7 months ago
@AnotherSchmoe Exactly my point. Why the hell would you pay 8 dollars for something when you could pay less than one just by making it at home? Why? because you don't want to go to the store, you don't want to prepare it, you don't want to clean up. At a restaurant, you have everything done for you. Now if the server fed it to you, would you be willing to tip? That would take ALL the work out and all you would have to do is chew and swallow. :)
missy4145 7 months ago
@missy4145
No, MY point is that if I'm paying an exorbitant price for the meal, then I'm ALREADY paying the wages for the workers. At that point, if the waiters feel they aren't making enough, they should complain to their boss, not me, because I'm already paying through the nose.

It's all status bullshit that probably started when some rich white suburban people wanted to look good in front of other people. You want more money? Get a real job and stop taking handouts. I do tip though.

@missy4145 Because it's not my responsibility to pay the employees. That's the manager's job.

Why dont they get tipped?
aapiment17 7 months ago
@DairIk22 If my service is GREAT, I'll tip 20%, maybe a little more. If it sucks, screw you, you're not getting shit. I'm not paying extra money on top of the overpriced menu just because you managed to carry a try without collapsing from exhaustion.
Bttscks 2 months ago
@Bttscks i agree with you... if MY service sucks, sorry nothing for you... its there job to do a good job... as for the menu, dont take that out on the server, we dont make the prices for the food! :)

Im british and its true you only should tip for a good overall service since the person will know they are doing a better job than just tipping them even though they are doing a crap job

I'm with Mr Pink on this one. I only tip for exceptional service. Anything less can suck my dick and I could care less.

osiris3yhn 11 months ago
tips should not count towards wages the company should pay their staff their going rate and tips should be a bonus, that's how it it is in the uk, I have noticed that some restaurants are adding a 10% gratuity to the bill now which cracks me up if the service was shit you shouldn't have to go through the embarrastment of asking for it to be taken off.

Thanks
platolol 1 year ago

00cm 1 year ago 23
the joke of this video is ON Mr. Pink,. Waiters don't make min wage, they make much less. McDonalds is NOT a hard job compared to waiting tables. This whole scene is void. Sorry if you don't tip
platolol 1 year ago
I love that scene. It's a classic.
phlewis86 1 year ago
I don't tip for the reasons stated in the clip.
I've worked minimum wage and busted my ass, no one ever gave me any tips.
Why should some long legged, big boobed bimbo get to have a MUCH easier job AND get tipped for doing it just okay?
Tipping automatically encourages bad service from Waitresses.

tarantino's behaviour at the end is pretty funny!!! he looks like he totally lost his serious and just admire his cast perform with the feeling that he just made the best movies opening ever!!!
88TomHagen 1 year ago
Mr. Pink is wrong. Service staff make much less than minimum wage and McDonalds employees take orders, the don't serve. Plus they make much more than servers. Up to as much as 15 bucks an hour. Anyone who doesn't tip is just a cheap fuck and should stay home and cook their own meals.
platolol 1 year ago
@platolol did you listen to it? "it would appear waitresses are one of the many groups the government fucks in the ass on a regular basis" that applies to service staff making less than minimum wage. The only reason their employers are getting away with paying waiter/waitresses less than minimum wage is because people feel obligated to tip.
RunningP123456 1 year ago
@RunningP123456 I did listen to it, he's actually referring to the fact they have to pay taxes on their tips, not that they make less than minimum wage. There is no reference to that fact in this scene. In fact, the argument in this clip is based on the idea that they DO make minimum wage
platolol 1 year ago
@platolol I really dont care what he's arguing, The Government should give service staff minimum wage and save us the trouble of tipping. You should be mad at you're employer for giving you such shit pay, find a new job and stop bitching.
RunningP123456 1 year ago 2
@RunningP123456 99/100 tip because they aren't poor hippies. I don't wait tables anymore. Stop going out to eat and dumpster dive like you should be doing.
platolol 1 year ago
@platolol tipping being customary is simply illogical. You really don't have to make assumptions about me and my life style choices.
RunningP123456 1 year ago 2
@RunningP123456 and neither do you. Well, the rest of the world is glad that 99% of the population doesn't have your logic. Stay home....
platolol 1 year ago
@platolol No, you're the one who's wrong. Wait staff make at least minimum wage; if they don't make it in tips, then legally the employer has to make up the difference (go look it up). So in no circumstance could a waiter possibly make less than a McDonalds employee, and in most cases they will make a massive amount more, especially since most of the tips go undeclared and thus are tax free.
tml4873 1 year ago
@tml4873 all credit card tips are declared, they have to be. You're right, a waiter will almost never make less than a McDonalds employee, given that people tip. Under law, the restaurant is obligated to pay minimum wage given that the server has absolutely NO customers, not if they don't make tips. If the server records a sale, then they are going to make their 2.xx an hour. That's how it works, legally
platolol 1 year ago
@tml4873 and stop referencing this thread as your resource, you're just reciting what other people in this videos thread has said as far as making up the difference. I'm sure you're not looking up legal notices on your free time so stop trying to look smart. It varies state to state....so ..... look it up and think for yourself this time, smarty pants
platolol 1 year ago
@platolol This is why I hate waiters and waitresses. They're all a bunch of self-entitled little cocks, who think that anyone who doesn't hand them money which they are in no way obligated to at all, is a cheap fuck, even if the service is only passable, and the food overpriced, because the government and the employers are fucking you up the ass and unlike them, we can't fire you for bitching to us about it.
Bttscks 2 months ago
he pretty much nails why people do what they do.
