However, this is supposed to occur after the events of The Iliad (much like the Trojan Horse and the sack of Troy) and thus is not actually described in The Iliad. It is, though, pretty well established in The Iliad that if Achilles fights this war, he will die--this is the basis of a lot of his internal conflict--so his death is implied when he eventually enters into battle.
