  • I love Eric Whiticer! :) And you rock btw!

  • How cool is this! I really like this video.

  • i like how you continue to say the solfege silently when they repeated after you. great idea!!

  • Why do you look so familiar? Geneseo, IL? Moody Bible Institute? Which life do I know you from?

  • Thank you so much for posting this. I'm doing a music degree at the moment and would really like to conduct a choir after I finish. I've also been asked to take over my local church choir after I graduate but few of them read music so I need to find a way of teaching all the parts!

My problem is that I've only been a musician for about 8 years and had scarce experience with ensemble work before starting college, so I need to watch videos like this!

  • OMg, this is my choir, way back to freshman year...I see myself! I'm in the front! I have the green jacket

  • dude can i have a a piece of the sight reading solfege?? i need it for our choir.. where can i get that??

  • what song was that??!!??

  • @wishidfindperfectguy I know this song as " Пусть всегда будет солнце! "

  • I am currently a music teacher/pianist about to take on a choral teacher position for the first time (high school level) Any advice on getting started/choosing rep, etc?

  • wait, where is mr. haas teaching?

  • hate to burst this choir's bubble, but we sang a version of this for our sixth grade choir, and we sounded pretty good. cedar falls kicks butt once again

  • It's awesome that you take time to pause between the intervals. I find so many choirmasters just allow the singers to learn the patterns of intervals without giving them the opportunity to really internalise them. I only teach privately, but an internalised sense of pitch is something I really enjoy passing on to my students.

  • I'm always interested to see different techniques to teaching...but I think you could get a more supported sound if you conduct lower, particularly for the boys. It's a beautiful song, though, I sang it in two different choirs.

    Interesting, though!

  • Does Dr. Greg Grove not work in the Music Department anymore?

  • I am a student in the music department Lol and Dr. Grove is still there Mr. Haas was a Student Teacher who worked with us (at the time the Freshman Choir now most of us are in Sophomore Choir) second trimester last school year.

  • Oho! I see thank you for clarifying.

    I'm a 2004 graduate, and I must admit I got a bit scared there for a moment.

Would you mind telling Dr. Grove that Matthew Taylor sends his regards?

  • I will tell him Matthew next time I see him. I have Mr. Keating right now as a director so I don't exactly know when I'll see Grover (next time Special K is out I suppose if not sooner) but I will let him know, next time I see him.

  • Oh hot damn, say hello to Mr. Keating too!

Haha sorry, I haven't seen either in years.... But he looks like Vizzini from The Princess Bride, have you folks gotten him to say "Inconceivable!" yet?

  • I had not made that connection between Special K and Vizzini before...but now that I think about it he kinda does look like him lol

He has yet to say "inconceivable!"...but that is now my new goal...get him to say it by the end of the Tri...I have 8 days to do it but it will be accomplished XD

  • by third tri we were way better.

    thanks mr. haas. =]

  • You guys ended up much better than this. Everyone should know this was your second day being rehearsed.

  • haha crazyyyyy, i hope we sound better now than we did then!

  • take the dipthongs out! Doh not Dow reh not ray.

  • ahh!

    this is my chior class!
