Well first of all, the character "Stanley" was based on the director Stanley Kubrick. This movie was a warning to him. During this time he was making a movie called "Eyes Wide Shut", which exposed some state secrets. He died 3 days after showing his movie to executives, just like "Stanley" died in the movie. THIS HAPPENED 2 YEARS AFTER THE MOVIE WAS RELEASED.
