I would have just demolished the station,. I can't see the practical reason to have kept it there for the few houses up from the station on the left, if so, its even more of a waste
They can't. I was talking with someone at Septa and I think the mayor of Milbourne wanted the new station, its a whole lot more complicated than you think as to why the station was rebuilt.
wow, I didn't even know Millbourne was a borough. I read only one third commute by car. Interesting. Perhaps I had just rode the el when rush hour was just over
I always thought that SEPTA has missed a great oppty to build a multi-level parking garage at Millbourne, on the old Sears lot. Think of the ridership they could attract.
yeah they seem to like missing good opportunities, hopefully PATCO can pick up the pieces with their new projects and maybe someday finally have trains going from 63rd-Passyunk like originally planned
The whole stretch of this new structure sucks, it has no character, it is just bolted to the street, all pre-fab, I prefer the Northeaast section better, they were more mindfull when they rebuilt that end, they incorporated old and the new, they retained almost all of the original steel supports. And in Frankford they retained the center supported structure that runs from Church to Bridge Street.
yeah me too, I would have thought since the Market Street El is older, they would have done the same as they did on that stretch, not just for asthetic, but historical reasons as well. Oh well..
that true the EL does rule it has more outside stops like from bridge-pratt to spring-garden and undergrund from 2nd to 40th street and outside again from 46th to 69th street and you have to go upstairs from the subat city hall to get to the EL that why they call it the EL right?
To get to the El from the Broad street line at City Hall, you do need to go updstairs. The El is called "the El" because it runs on the elevated structures in North and West Philly.
Thanks for posting this, it's real interesting.

seemed like a waste for them to even renovate Millbourne..only a trickle of people ever get on and off
cobaltwill215 2 years ago
That is true, it was a waste of money.
