I thought punks were the ones who hated labels and trendy popularity. If you call yourself a "Punk", you are then labeling yourself. The Clash are VERY popular to people of all sorts. "Punk" actually means "In poor or bad condition", and "Punk Rock" relates their lyrics to that definition, it's anti- corruption, selfishness, robot-like trend, robot-like establishment (You get the idea). The music part is expression. It's music, beautiful at that. Don't worship out of appreciation. Just listen.
@colbyhundley Originally people called it punk rock because most Punk Rock at the time didn't have much talent in their bands. And true to that definition, you don't need much talent, but it still makes incredibly good music and has turned into the definition you have said.
This songs sounds differently now that my best friend is in jail serving 180 days and has a immigration hold, waiting to be deported out of the U.S. I guess he fought the law and the law won.
all the guitars in this song are blaring its awsome and all them singing together just add on to the intensity of the song its truly one of the clash's greatest songs and thats not easy to say cause there all amazing

'Snot pure punk, halfwit!
It's a fucking cover in a simple 12-bar blues format because they needed to produce a moneyspinner while they worked towards the great "London Calling" tour.

@JohnAProctor
I think the no talent argument is bullshit unless by talent you mean Steve Vai- technically competent but unegaging self-absorbed wankery.
The Clash were fuckin' talented.

Brilliant - when music was music. I so wish I was 19 again, working on my rally car late into the night in my garage, having this blasting out!
