10 people commit suicide every day in Canada. Who cares? That's his problem, I don't see why we should spend millions of taxpayer money on them. If they need treatment, the family should pay it, not your neighbors and strangers.
@TheMarksmenCat People like you are exactly why we don't have a national suicide prevention strategy and why we have such a high suicide rate. Just give it some thought if you get a phone call tomorrow telling you your son/ daughter or mom/father or anyone close to you had killed themselves. You'd wonder what you could of done to prevent it, and the answer is often nothing because the person rarely says anything. Just food for thought. Have a good day.
@TheMarksmenCat A family can't prevent someone from becoming an alcoholic but we have provincial institutions to help them. In your argument you're assuming that everyone who is suicidal have these utopian families that will intervene and save their lives, this is rarely the case, and again thats assuming that they will even go to their families about it. We have national anti-drug strategies directed at the youth, what's wrong with telling them its okay to go see someone if they feel suicidal?
@TheMarksmenCat Besides, it would at least be a worthy cause whether it failed or not. I can point out endless examples of the government splurging on useless crap that will never help anyone. You are right when you say families do need to intervene and prevent when possible but to assume this will happen every time is just too unrealistic.

@metyzermanfan19 If the family can't prevent, how can the government? More food for thought. Have a good day yourself.
