whats a good way to e.q around a very nice rough vocal , without taking the edge/roughness away from the vocal?? i would for u to actually hear it to get my intent in the mix i am doing...its perplexing in that i feel the edge or roughness from being a hair too close to the microphone is PERFECT for this ballad i am mixing. the back ground vocals are perfect in contrast to the main vocal...have u ever encountered that???
Yours are by far the best learning videos I've come across. I'm barely getting my feet wet in home recording -for Voice Over and most other videos I've come across are over my head. Yours are clear and very understandable. Thanks!
Yeah that will be great with the paz waves plugin!!! So far as frequencys do I dip or do I filter. Really look for that quality sound like the producers jazza pha and shorty redd!
this has nothing to do with EQ's but how do you get that full rich sound that professional studio's have .. I listened to Lil Wayne's The Carter 3 and the first track it airy and you hear movent then all of a sudden you hear the transition into a more full warm crisp sound
The thing I've found about hip hop and dance/techno music is that they usually take a lot of time to find the right samples and process them very close to how they want them to sound going in.
Then you really don't have to do a whole lot or it can change the intention of the producer.
@Dizzinator2114 ur thinking of either compression. basically what they did. was dropped the threshold down to around -40db and the ratio was around 12:1+. basically a very harsh sound/no dynamics
That will be great. Im not a pro at EQ but I have a basic understanding of how they work. Would help a lot an in depth explanation or some commont techniques used when EQing. Also you could post the link of your website on the video description. It makes the acces a lot easyer for us to click the link :)
I'm happy to see talented people puting out information for others throught the help of the internet. The music community is empowering themselves. Thank you, Khaliq
useful to me over any other information i have picked up along the way. Eq is something that i really want to understand more.I know it can give a song dimension that my recording lack. I really am dying to see what you come up with :) On another note i would love it if you would take a look at some of my piano and vocal recordings on my youtubesite and maybe pass on a quick tip or two. i really really want to get better at this artform and you are the number 1 guy to help :) 5 stars from me
Hi Khaliq. First I would like to tell you that you are doing a great job. You are a great teacher and I have followed ur videos and internet services closely. I will be buying your dvd just as soon as i get some money together. I like you also learn visually which I why i think your way of teaching is so effective with me. I am by no means a sound engineer but I am loving the very steep learning curve that i am try to battle at the moment. Your information without doubt has been the most ....
Thanks for getting back to me. Just to say again how much i am looking forward to this product. i am really excited about learning to use the waves paz plugin. Waves is the software i use so the more mentioned about their products the better :) also i was going to ask, is this product going to be a purchasable dvd? also how long do you think it will be till its ready? cheers and keep up the great work
Khaliq, I love it, man! Your whole series, as well as your internet seminars, are very helpful, and you have a good way of getting the info across in a understandable manner for those of us that aren't already experienced pro audio engineers or the most technical kind of people. As long as you keep putting out info, I'll keep watching and listening. LOL. Keep up the good work, man, and many thanks again!

Sorry - While there is some interest, it's not as much as I hoped for to be able to concentrate on it.
I'll definitely finish the product once I get some more time because most of the videos are already done.
