I think that what Geert Wilders failed to point out effectively is the fact that it is not a debate against religion or race, but the unwillingness of the majority of moslims in the Netherlands to integrate within the Dutch society. Much of the anger stems from the fact that these ethnic minority group wish to change their environment to suit their own beliefs and values at the cost of the values and beliefs of Dutch natives and others liberally inclined citizens.
One of many examples: recently there was a local outcry when a group of young moslim women, wearing bourkinis, complained that they were uncomfortable with the fact that there were men in the same (public)swimming pool as them. They actually went to the relevant overseers of the facility and asked them to accommodate their need, ie at the expense of others. Not a racist remark, but they should go back to their own country if they wish to reside in a society implementing sharia law.

There are hundreds (500+) more just like this criticizing non-believes, followers of other religions, etc. I've never known a book concentrate on people who don't believe in it's philosophy quite so much. @sadekgheidan I am from Holland and deeply dissapointed in the Dutch public for voting for him. Holland used to have the reputation of being the most tolerate country in the EU. But actually someone like him is something that was bound to happen. There is a problem with immigrants in NL. Unfortunately the crime statistics do show that 50% of criminals are non-dutch. With the foreign population being 1-2 million and Dutch 14-15 million. Yet his way of tackling the problem is not the right way.

That causes so many problems and usually an inferiority-complex. If you fix that, you fix most of it. The journalist does his job (a bit -- look away when he start spouting his opinion), but if he doubts the validity of what lives among the people, ask the Dutch what they would do if they could click a button and decide 40 years ago whether to allow guest laborers and to develop the recent policies of immigration. Not 5% of the people would have wanted the Middle Easteners over there. Maybe less than 1%.

I think that what Geert Wilders failed to point out effectively is the fact that it is not a debate against religion or race, but the unwillingness of the majority of moslims in the Netherlands to integrate within the Dutch society. Much of the anger stems from the fact that these ethnic minority group wish to change their environment to suit their own beliefs and values at the cost of the values and beliefs of Dutch natives and others liberally inclined citizens.

One of many examples: recently there was a local outcry when a group of young moslim women, wearing bourkinis, complained that they were uncomfortable with the fact that there were men in the same (public)swimming pool as them. They actually went to the relevant overseers of the facility and asked them to accommodate their need, ie at the expense of others. Not a racist remark, but they should go back to their own country if they wish to reside in a society implementing sharia law.

Holland has a small problem with immigrants, but the way he wants to tackle the problem is not the right way

@sadekgheidan I am from Holland and deeply dissapointed in the Dutch public for voting for him. Holland used to have the reputation of being the most tolerate country in the EU. But actually someone like him is something that was bound to happen. There is a problem with immigrants in NL. Unfortunately the crime statistics do show that 50% of criminals are non-dutch. With the foreign population being 1-2 million and Dutch 14-15 million. Yet his way of tackling the problem is not the right way.

The problem is there and very identifiable but the way he is handling it will NOT solve anything. Especially with all the wars we, the west are exporting to Muslim countries. That is bound to create more immigration. Sad but true. This problem needs solving but definitely NOT the way Wilders is proposing.

And the sillence of the government for years combined with the constant: 'we should be proud of our multicultural society' repetition has contributed to increased discontent with the people. I think a part of it cannot be solved, were you have such a large cap between the cultures that there is no bridge to close it.

@sadekgheidan I also dont want people to change their culture, i think it is stupid to ask or demand people to change to dutch culture. This is like asking me to wear a an abaya, its onrealistic On one side i am for hard measures. I live now in the UAE, were there are very hard rules If you commit the smallest crime they sentence you and kick you out, never allowed to enter the country again. When i arrived here i thought it was a bit hard, bit its very effective as there is hardly no crime.

@sadekgheidan Seperating the 'good' from the 'bad' would increase foreign nationalities reputation over time and would make the dutch public more content.
I think one idea is to mix people as much as possible especially the kids. No more catholic, christian, islamic or refugee schools.. just public schools. No more waiting 6-8 years before refugees receive working permits, depressing them in the time being. You being and Iraqi in Holland what your idea on how to solve it?

@madelon231 Exactly that. Make the assimilation go as smooth and fast as possible. Problem is that foreigners feel exactly that- a foreign entity that doesn't belong. That causes so many problems and usually an inferiority-complex. If you fix that, you fix most of it. If you ask me, the best approach would be to be much harder on racism and discrimination while at the same time assimilating the groups as fast and intensely as possible- very much like what you proposed in your reply.

@sadekgheidan But sometimes i think there is a problem with Dutch people That they dont feel comfortable with anybody that doesnt look western. Not because they are racist, just because they dont know how to behave around people with different culture. But i am from the north, were people are more stiff, so cant talk for the rest of NL. I have a handicapped brother. he's 24 has the mind of a 2 year old. Dutch people dont know how to behave around him, even my own family still feels uncomfortable

But i hear to many africans for example say that dutch are racist... because they look funny at them. Buts its same look as with my brother, the look of not knowing how to deal with people you are not familiar with. Its exactly that which puts restraints on integration. So i think dutch people need some serious culture education.

I think England is not used to such politicians, it is one of the most "political correct" countries in Europe. Hence, it is normal there to immediately come up with words and terms like "racist" and "spreading fear".
