  • this song reminds me of home always......NIGERIA MY MOTHERLAND!

  • He was sent as a bard to the Yoruba race and the world at large but he was derailed by misinterpretations of the Bible...he is the greatest still...i luv Ebenezer Obey!

  • @232lalas how did he interpretate the bible?

  • @8aec8cce Well, i believe he would have reached more people through his music than he could ever have done as a full time dedicated evangelist, some of his sermons via music still resonate till date and i dare say for many years to come, but i can tell you i have never listened to an Ebeneezer Obey sermon done from the pulpit; i feel he was derailed by too much fervor, imagine if he was still singing, how many lives could have been touched!

  • By far my favorite Obey Track. The Highlife influence is still heavy in this track, and the sense of nostalgia it evokes spoke of the fact that Obey and his band were on tour of the UK. That sentiment still resonates now as we speak, for those abroad or far from home, the longing to be close to loved ones is made more glaring as this tune and the followup track, aptly tiltled (Ajo Ko Da Bi'ile-No Place Like Home) plays on. My heart is heavy, eyes welled up....hmmm

And to think all this time I'm a subscriber to your channel and never searched your archives! Thank you! Please I have one request (well, two...lol). Do you have or can you find Olowokere ( I can't remember his full name). The track I'm looking for had to do with Chef Obafemi Awolowo when his son died while he was in prison.

  • 9ice and good

  • Priceless!!

  • This tune is the top of the range.

One of the best of Obey's songs.

    Brings back memories.

    A tune and a half.

  • Could anyone tell me when Baba Obey was born ? . This is quite an aged song . Thanks

  • Aww!! this really just takes me back 20 yrs man. memories return...lol

  • Obey was born in March 1942.

  • I could have sworn the album was "waxed" (as they used to say then) in 1970 or 1971. Look at the fabric on Obey in the displayed album cover; that kind of lace material didn't come into vogue until late 1970, and Obey himself would cut a single on the oppobrium that came with the lace craze in 1971 after the first executed Nigerian armed robber, Babatunde Folorunsho, was tied to the stake at the Bar Beach and shot. I'd be surprised if the song was made in '69, but you might be correct.

  • Wow, you're good. I checked the Wikipedia and they have this as coming out in 1970. I'll change it. Thanks!

  • Thanks for the compliment. I suppose we all spent our childhood and youth soaking up our local music; now away from home there're few pillars of support that are half as strong as the wisdom that always comes back to us from what our musicians say in their works. By the way, Obey reprised the first track in 1984 or 1985, and it's one of the few examples in our music where the reprise is better than the original. I think it's in the album "O se" (Thank you), with "O seun, o, Jesu" as its refrain.

  • @Outreachat point to ponder on pls... was oyenusi d first armed robber to b killed by firing squad or was it babatunde folorunso???????
