He was sent as a bard to the Yoruba race and the world at large but he was derailed by misinterpretations of the Bible...he is the greatest still...i luv Ebenezer Obey!
@8aec8cce Well, i believe he would have reached more people through his music than he could ever have done as a full time dedicated evangelist, some of his sermons via music still resonate till date and i dare say for many years to come, but i can tell you i have never listened to an Ebeneezer Obey sermon done from the pulpit; i feel he was derailed by too much fervor, imagine if he was still singing, how many lives could have been touched!
By far my favorite Obey Track. The Highlife influence is still heavy in this track, and the sense of nostalgia it evokes spoke of the fact that Obey and his band were on tour of the UK. That sentiment still resonates now as we speak, for those abroad or far from home, the longing to be close to loved ones is made more glaring as this tune and the followup track, aptly tiltled (Ajo Ko Da Bi'ile-No Place Like Home) plays on. My heart is heavy, eyes welled up....hmmm
That 1970 when the album was released is just like yesterday. TIME FLIES. That is 41 years ago. I was only 14 years then, young and full of energy and exhuberance of the adolescent.

This is Yoruba language from Nigeria. The music praises the Almighty God and also said no matter where you are home is home. There is nothing compareable to being at home.
thk god 4 Obey and sunny who single handedly turn a previously quite western nigeria to "entertainment capital" of d world in 60's,70's 7 80's. Every weekend -streets were closed, free larger beer,B'days, naming ceremony, house warmings or wedding we did it all. All nite long. Whao! Pls bring it back.
This track must be one of the first three released by this artist. I was in elementary school in Abeokuta. Now a Floradian in d last two decades, listen to this,I surely missed motherland. Good job groovemonzter

I'd be surprised if the song was made in '69, but you might be correct.
Thanks for the compliment. I suppose we all spent our childhood and youth soaking up our local music; now away from home there're few pillars of support that are half as strong as the wisdom that always comes back to us from what our musicians say in their works. By the way, Obey reprised the first track in 1984 or 1985, and it's one of the few examples in our music where the reprise is better than the original. I think it's in the album "O se" (Thank you), with "O seun, o, Jesu" as its refrain.
Babatunde Folorunsho and his gang members were shot first. He was tied to the stakes in a two-piece lace, and the opprobrium began from there. I remember my own sister kept some yards of lace she had meant to have sewn till 1972, before finally using the fabric. Obey sang, "E ma foju buruku wo eni to wo lace; eni to jale iyen lo ye ka ba wi (Do not contemn one who sports a lace fabric; it's the man who robbed who should be blamed)", likely because he himself was not exempt from the ridicule!
this song reminds me of home always......NIGERIA MY MOTHERLAND!
