  • I love this woman so much I wanna cry.

  • SHE IS AMAZING!

  • OMG!! THIS GODDESS AND! MICHEL PETRUCCIANI!!!! WOW. I'm breathless.

  • I think I need a construction crew to excavate my jaw!

  • my life!

  • WTF?!! No words except GENIUS!

  • the little danny devito lookin dude playin the piano can play his muhfukin ass off. i was like look at this itty bitty dude clown on the piano. go head brotha. and rachelle shes so good its retarded.

  • who plays the piano is Michel Petrucciani, and is a phenomenon

  • this woman is the definition of a human instrument !!! 02:12 to 3:28 is phenominal <3 her talent is undeniable

  • very very very sick...

  • PURE GENIUS

  • @MusicsOxymoron

    NOTHING ELSE TO SAY

  • the talent of Rachelle is way out of this world, her voice is truly an instrument and the way she uses it is just the way it was meant to be. Wonderful and beautiful singer. Go Rachelle!

  • I love-love-love this song. !!!!!! Rachelle is in a class by herself. This woman can SANG her behind off. I've seen her twice with George Duke and this woman is bad!!!! Belee Dat!!!

  • that dude went HAM!!!! on that piano solo

  • Those 36 people who disliked this should go kill themselves!

  • @TremellluvWhit

     36 JUSTIN BIBER'S FANS

  • This album (FIRST INSTRUMENT) was indeed recorded prior to her self titled album but the self titled was released 1st. This is the taping of the recording of that album as well. :)

  • Everyone is here, Michel, Wayne, Stanley...

  • Best jazz vocalist to ever walk the face of earth.

  • I remember going to see her at the Blue Note. I almost ran on stage to hug the hell out of her. Her voice is fucking WOW. always, ALWAYS gives me goose bumps. since the first time I was introduced to her music in 92, I've been hooked on her.

  • Stellar Performance....

  • Rachelle is the best of the best kind of unique talent all time, and Mr. Great Michael Petrucciani God Bless both!!!

  • the great michel petrucciani....

  • WTF is alf doing in the piano?

  • @petetoteles He's got more talent than you that's for sure. The Gentleman on the piano is the late great Michel Petrucciani, google him or search more videos of him on Youtube and you will see that you will never equal to what this man has achieved in his 36 years of living on this cruel world filled with people like you. Have some respect...

  • @cmuratf73, I understand that in my impulsivity and ignorance my joke might be tasteless, but your response is very aggressive, read it again. It's healthy to be a little flexible every no and then, and if you feel that people need to be corrected, please do so in an appropiate way, because, the fact is I'm much more offended by your response than you could ever be for my joke.

  • @cmuratf73 ...well said

  • How come this woman is not the world highest paid singer? I have never heard anything like this in my life. The last time I purchased a cd was 12 years ago, and since then I have been fed up with the crap I have been listening to lately. Rachelle Ferrell said earlier this year she is in the studio right now working on a new album and I have to say she is the only one on this planet that has convinced me enough to actually spend money again, and it will be spent only on her cd. Period.

  • @cmuratf73 ..DITTO...

  • 4:27 Ladies and gentlemen, mister Michel Petrucciani

    5:31 mister Wayne Shorter

  • Comment removed

  • The only was for me to describe this would be to say Hearing her sing is like listening to a saxaphone singing words! TERRIFIC.

  • Never get tired of hearing this so moving ;o

  • At 4:27, @ the high note, she is literally the little man on the piano away.....lol....too cute...

  • @DenzLife "Michel Petrucciani"

  • It sounds exactly like the recorded version from that album.

  • @missigne ...Because this one is the live version of that album!

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!!

  • She has astounding, PERFECT voice control! It is truly her instrument. The Creator/Creative Force has to be extremely happy with Rachelle for using her talents to the max!!!

  • Please come to Paris Rachelle!!!

  • Im American and I think that there is no one that can touch Rachelle on this planet! Living or dead lol.

  • feeling jazzy tonight, have her first album buried away somewhere, absolutely kick ass voice....great :)

  • typical american response comparing her to Mariah Carey. She is light years away from Carey or any other pop singer. Great talent, great instincts with her musicians.

  • So unique!! Respect!!

  • Is her whistle register as high as Mariah Carey's? I know that Mariah's a world record holder for highest note but Rachelle must be close to Mariah. Her low notes are certainly better and stronger if not lower than Mariah's imo.

  • it's for listening -NOT watching only !

  • Too bad the musicians are not noted as I am sure they are on the dvds. Wayne Shorter (tenor sax) and Late Great Michel Petrucciani (Piano) are a great addition to her performance. Didn't recognize the bassist and keyboardist (back)

  • I LOVE JAZZ AND RACHELLE FERRELL!!!!!! ♥

I LOVE JAZZ AND RACHELLE FERRELL!!!!!! ♥

I LOVE JAZZ AND RACHELLE FERRELL!!!!!! ♥

I LOVE JAZZ AND RACHELLE FERRELL!!!!!! ♥

I LOVE JAZZ AND RACHELLE FERRELL!!!!!! ♥

  • @muza2032 I LOVE JESUS

  • what the fucking problem you have with her facial expression ?? it's soulful and beautiful can't you feel it ?

  • @noongdeedee you have to use those facial expressions to get certain notes out you dweeb!!!

  • she is God and the band is the holy spirit..

  • Rachell Ferrell and Michael Petrucciani together=insane talent! They are two of my all time favorites.

  • 26 people don't know the sounds of REAL jazz.

  • @dartbord i see you dont understand music at all. Lets see your best version of Autumn Leaves.

  • @dartbord maybe if you look around at several of her videos, you will appreciate her more :)

  • @dartbord I Think you are too inexperienced to know what is music what is singing what is soul what is song and what is rachelle ferrell

  • I just saw her LIVE tonight at the Blue Note and cried the whole time...incredible!!! I got to hug her afterwards and I am basically able to die of happiness now. :-D

  • I used to loove this in college. Played it over & over.

  • the master teacher:rachelle ferrell..so so so underated.....no words, voice is pure gold.

  • @Kaknelson Almost agree with your statement with one modification. She is not underrated, but under appreciated. Those in the industry know she is a GENIUS.

  • is that stanley Clarke playing bass

  • The mouth came FIRST, then other instruments. The body--drumming, then singing is the ultimate instrument. Good instrumental teachers will tell their students "SING." Listen to indigenous music, African, Islanders, etc.

  • Wow!!!

  • not the right arrangement?!?! What you talkin about? It's the cannonball arrangement. One of the best!

  • I have listened to this version many times and it always sounds innovative. I enjoy the liberties she takes with every flowing range of sounds se uses. You can see the Wholly Sound of All resonating in her. I she has my respect.

  • davvero non male.......CHE VOCE !

  • i don't think Autumn Leaves is the right song for this arrangement - at all. Sorry. No disrespect to Rachelle.

  • that last whistle was a MESS SMH!! BUT!!

she did a great job the rest of the song!

  • She is bad...most definitely...but what about her band...esp. her pianist...something else!!!

  • @rndlh1996 i think the pianist is michele petrucciani ...the old pianist that played for charles lloyd...he is very nice

  • It's crazy, it's beyond comprehension, it's the rescue of my soul. Pure genius, nothing less.

  • genius

  • piękne piano

  • Não sei nem o que dizer dessa mulher gênio do jazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

estou aqui maluca..loca varrida com esse talentoooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • ça c'est trop fort...j'adoooooooore!!!!amazing

  • I love how she gets lost in the music. Its just her and the mic.

  • @Msgoldilocks30 I couldn't agree more

  • U can not limit a singer like this to just one catogory...She can sing anything..Jazz, Blues, R&B....U name it.....She can sing it....her vocal range is fantastic, amazing...

  • is she even human? wow! I'm astonished.

  • P E R F E C T!!!!

  • If she sings jazz she is the best! What a line from the band! The best you can imagine! I was lucky to be there when she starten at North Sea Jazz! Dedicated to Paul Acket. Ron Jenner jazz photographer

  • Only RACHELLE!! SING COW!

  • she is an instrument

  • That piano solo was fantastic.

  • she might have an amazing range, but I don't like this at all..

  • who else can interprete this way. She was safer than the genius keyboard man understandably becuz' of her style permits it ain't no matter what the haters here think.

  • @andyjazzsax Andy, to come to a point of possibly being able to appreciate it you have to suspend all judgment, meet her where she's at, and just listen to the sounds -- the entire piece, closing everything else out. Really listen.

  • @halaluani Co-signing. She has an 8 octave range and sings with very traditional scat influences. Comparing her to any other singer is like comparing a bi-plane to a space shuttle. Her brother, Russ Barnes, has an amazing voice as well.

  • she is great singer, i dont think she egts the credit she deserves, i saw her in houston last year, my wife is her biggest fan , they took photos together.. my wife is jazz singer check her out, her name is jarmonica

  • @Timmy2827 Rachelle is the best!!! I checked out your wife's video, Is it the Way, she is really good! She has a beautiful voice.

  • @emotown428 thank you very much ,

  • i love this woman on my goodness get into the dwarf on the keys

  • wow talk about doing some vocal acrobatics.

  • art

  • she in impresive technicly and very uniwe but somehow ...she doesnt reach my heart //

  • Oh my that whistles.....

  • five stars

  • Impresionante, sublime, único e irrepetible

  • Great voice, but in my opinion she overdoes this beautiful song. It sounds as if she wanted to show off with her vocal range and she tries so hard to blow it out of the water, that it becomes too harsh to listen to. Straining for high notes isn't always a good thing. Nevertheless, with all due respect, her capacity and potential are immense :)

  • @Lipaj18, We Rachelle fans appreciate your critique. But, first of all her voice is not great. That is a word that is not able describe her unique vocal ability. What you describe as "over doing" it is called creative liberty............and there is no other female/male artist that can come close to achieving her level. I recommend you hear her performing Mi Voila Suel...your heart will absolutely melt.

    Peace.

  • every fucking note counts with ferrell - amazing

  • she's pretty incredible.. yes, maybe the best by many standards

  • this chick is ridiculous ok...lol...amazing range!!! WWWooooWWWW

  • Sublime , la perfection

  • simply divine

  • Great instrument, singing not so much.

  • Canta muito!!! UAU!

  • OMG what a guy, one of my favourites piano players RIP Michel

  • I'm a big fan of Rachelle Ferrell. Thank you for this great video. She is out of this world!!!

  • An elegant lady doing her elegant thing.

  • best singer ever.

  • Who needs a horn if you can sing eh? (I'm Canadian "eh") I hope instrumentalists stop their grumbling about singers, who sometimes surpass instrumentalists. How is a sax melody "better" than a vocal melody? They're both great and we don't have to decide, one over the other like a friend of mine, who is a bigot that way.

  • she's a beast!!!

  • Wicked !

  • cruel scat singing.

  • WOW! AMAZING VOICE SHE´S GOT!

  • It's like Sarah Vaughan....if Sarah Vaughan where an Alien being from a far away planet of insanity!

  • SHE IS FENOMENAL!

  • La voz mas divina que he escuchado en la vida

  • un talento piu unico che raro

  • start to fall... :)

  • I play this video for my 1-year old daughter since the day she was born. Nothing makes her more tranquil than this.

  • all star band

  • Meravigliosamente fantastica!!!!

  • incredible!!!!

  • thanks for the video..when i see it i always cry of joy..she is from Mars,or Venus..and Petrucciani wow!thanks again for this masterpiece!

  • You betta sing!

  • Wow ... the whistle voice!!! so much talent vocally ... but I just dont get it.

  • this is hot <3

  • I would absolutely adore copies of the live CD's you have of her. She is my favorite singer. I have her first instrument CD and have seen her live and would love some additional live recordings. How can I get them from you. Please share

  • @atlantaluxe you can get this very same live version off of her superb cd FIRST

    INSTRUMENT

  • I just noticed the incredible michel petrucianni on piano. Another stellar talent.

  • The most incredible female jazz vocalist on the planet today bar none. Until you see her live, you don't realize the depth of this woman's talent.

  • Oh and a lot of Leon Thomas style yodeling ;)

  • I hear some of the Saxophone greats in there too ;)

  • HEAR ELLA FITZGERALD!!

  • Saweet....

  • j'ai eu le choc à la sortie du disque... et n'en suis toujours pas remise! ô Rachelle, combien de jazz vocalistes complétement perturbés après t'avoir entendue n'ont plus distingué "their hat from their gloves...We're too misty."

.. AND SO MUCH IN LOVE!!!

  • Rachelle Ferrell is the best living female jazz singer.

  • NO ONE can even come close

  • HEAR BOBBY MAC FERRIN!!!

  • @mariajosefinabaez I couldn't have said it better myself. She is the only performer that I will pay to see in concert.

  • @mariajosefinabaez I enjoyed her performance some 20 years ago at Northsea Jazz. Do you have any footage of that concert?

  • Best Autumn Leaves version!

  • woman is bad, gosh

  • she carries an instrument in her mouth

  • @vanessaevelyn ;) ...not to mention in her larynx, her lungs, her diapragm and most importantly perhaps; her soul! Lovely innit.

  • @vanessaevelyn Basically everyone does but most cannot use it :-)

  • wow what skill....

  • Yes she's overdoing it, she's over singing, because she might over want to say something, and the way she over does it.... so good.

  • She isn't overdoing.

This is vocal jazz. This is her style.

Vocal jazz is not about only singing, it's not classic jazz. She gives express feelings with vocals, not with singing, that's what it's all about.

  • she's using her voice to be an instrument..not to sing...Al jerreau does the same...That's why he's a marvel...I am learning about Rachelle..and I like it!!! *S*

  • Ok so she was young and had something to say but she broke the mold and blew everyone away with performances like this!! She doesn't have to prove she's red hot, it's there for all to see!!

  • i heard autumn leaves for the first time in this video. now i listened to 10 different versions from 50's and 60's but i still think this on is the best... amazing!

  • GOOD !!!!

  • she should be much much more recognized

  • Oh my! I think my ears just had multiple orgasms =O

The musicians accompanying her are really AMAZING! And what a vocal performance, I wich I could do all that!

  • I now know how special this performance was. The musicians accompanying her are Genius'. Especially the late Michel Petrucciani.

  • erm...her face all the way through it...

  • hh... her face hh at 0:57hh

  • I hear a daughter of early Nina Simone.
