when you say "singing through your nose," do you mean to resonate sound off the pallet while singing? i remember a dicussion about that at school.

On another note:

In choir, we are taught not to sing in our head voices and to breathe through our diaphram for a full, clear sound.

@malory2307 Singing from your nose AND throat is bad if you're singing a song like this. Classic/opera/etc. usually require you to use your "head voice"to reach high notes or "chest voice" if you have to reach lower notes. Your chest voice is your actual speaking voice, therefore, it's not bad for your vocal cords......unless you're screaming or forcing your voice to sing higher/lower than your range.
