  • When you used the powdered skim milk, does it have to be powderd or can i just use regular milk? By the way, awsome video.

  • So if you use margerine, you need to refridgerate this, correct?

  • can you save lard long term by canning it im curious

  • can you save yje lard long term by canning it im co curious

  • why even use the stuff? Good old fashioned flour is all you need.

  • Ahhh, lard! My grandma used to make her pie crusts with that stuff - the best flavor and texture, too! :)

  • I will be trying this recipe because i just love love love bisquick you can do so much with it. Any chicken and dumpling recipes? Oh hehe, and thank you for posting.

  • I want to thank you for your great videos. I've been canning fruits and vegetables but meat made me nervous because I thought it would be harder to do. You make it simple. As I type this, I just came back from checking my broth, which I started after watching your video on soups. (It's 5:40 in the morning so you can guess how much your video impacted me.) I also wrote down your recipe on the "bisquick type" mix which I will be preparing after I watch your video on the biscuits. Thanks again.

  • IN SPANISH LARD IS MANTECA. GREAT VIDEO. DRAIN YOUR BACON GREESE AND STRAIN IT SAME THING GIVES IT GOOD FLAVOR TOO

  • @contreeman Oh yes bacon grease has great flavor!

  • where do you find lard?

  • @ceh333 Lard is found in the baking aisle near Crisco or other generic "vegetable shortenings" you will usually find one choice of "Lard" alongside them on the shelf. If your supermarket has a Latin section it can usually be located there as well.

  • @ceh333 Were you able to find the lard? It's normally in the baking isles up here. If not you could use butter, but store it in the fridge.

  • Thanks!! :)

  • I love your cooking videos and watch them when I make them. when we tried to switch our internet to dish network we went a week with no internet and I had never written down anything to refer back to. It was the worst week of eating here ever. All the good stuff we eat I could not make b/c I did not a recipe to refer to. I am now printing it all out so I can update my recipe binder. Funny thing is I did that for our oldest daughter as a gift when she went away to school. lesson learned. :)

  • @avon2891 Oh that's happened to me before to! I try to keep a paper recipe book as well as a backup on my pc.

  • Oh yeah My Aunt Aggie (born 1910) used to make this all the time. Best biscuits ever too... and NO SUGAR

  • 152 People Are Fat And I Was Looking For Music Mixes..Not Cake Mixes..

  • Can you tell me how long you keep the mix after you made it?

  • @glitterflying So sorry for the late reply. YT doesn't always send me the comments. We go through it pretty quick here. But I would say it would last on the shelf for at least 6 months, if your using white flour and lard. Whole wheat flour will go bad in a few weeks though. You could store it longer by keeping it in the fridge, freezer or vac sealing it.

  • great video thank you

  • Very next time we need to buy bisquick I'll be doing this instead! Thanks!

  • That is very similar to the Magic Mix which was created by Crystal over at the everydayfoodstorage channel. You should check her stuff out.

  • Thanks for this recipe because we don't have Bisquick for sale here in UK and i see so many recipes here on YT that ask for it

    :-)

  • The powdered milk - is it instant or just plain powdered milk? have you ever tried buttermilk powder instead?

  • Can coconut oil be substituted for lard? Or some other non-processed plant-based fat?

  • Can't wait to see what you come up with next Mrs! you are awesome!

  • I thought that I lost this video, but I see you still have it up online. GOT to write this recipe down. Thank you. Good information.

  • Another great recipe from a wonderful cook and homemaker........thanks so much.

  • Have you ever made ready soup mixes? I have found those to be very helpful in a pinch and they make wonderful gifts! I came across an old shoe box full of old papers. I was gonna toss them out but giving them a quick glance I joyfully discovered they were my Great-Grandmothers soup recipes along with other goodies! I love your videos!

  • Just premixed many dry ingredients for different recipes over the weekend. I vacuum seal mine in both jars and bags (with oxygen absorbers). I highly prefer to do my own mixes because I am then fully aware of what my family and I are eating. Thanks for putting this up.

  • Last time I tried to cook the fireman told me to never try again..

This is on your shoulders if he returns

  • @tootnbarb I've never had a problem with it. :-) Lard and Shortening are stored unrefrigerated in the stores here. If I made it with butter, I'd keep it in the fridge though.

  • than you so much

  • Nothin HEALTHY about LARD....

  • @dapuma71 Actually if you research real traditional foods, you'll find lard is much healthier then refined veggie oils. the Weston A Price Foundation has a lot of good info as a place to start. :-)

  • @HomesteadAcres ditto on that. A long time ago, we stopped using lard because everyone said it was unhealthy. We sacrificed the quality of our pies, etc, to go to Crisco and it looks now like all we did was make things more unhealthy for us. Old is new again. Can't see the lard replace the shortening on the store shelves fast enough now. Great video - enjoy the pace that you go through your videos, and through the gardening videos. Just the right pace and detail level.

  • @HomesteadAcres

    You tell em, HOMESTEAD !

  • @HomesteadAcres So many "sheeples" think fat is bad period. Fat is brain food. :-) Seriously... l

"The membranes of neurons – the specialized brain cells that communicate with each other – are composed of a thin double-layer of fatty acid molecules. Fatty acids are what dietary fats are composed of. "

No wonder so many fat-watcher bimbos are idiots.

  • Thank you for this. i am going to try it. need to save every penny i can get my hands on.

  • excellent thank you ! big money saver and what if I can't get to the store?(because it is looted and empty) If you have more like this it would be great. thanks

  • Too bad that beaster of a wife can't speak or spell for shit!

  • you can buy bulk flour and and keep it in your freezer for a very long time

  • OMG! This is soo helpful and as you said so much cheaper. This is going on my favs for future reference thanks for sharing.

  • Awesome!! Fav'ed. What is the shelf life on that? Will it last three or four weeks? That is about how quick our family uses a box.

  • @TheGrayman1234 Oh yes, it will easily last for that time. Or it does for me anyway. :-)

  • Very cool! I do the same thing with whole wheat. I throw in the flour, baking powder, powdered milk, powdered eggs. Then when it's pancake time I add water and olive oil. I think I'll try your shortening idea next time. That would make it super simple and perfect for camping. Thanks for the idea.

  • cool video!!!! and very helpful too! THANKS!!!

  • Yum, I can almost taste the strawberry shortcake. Thanks for the recipe. Great vid!

  • Now you need to do a video of some of the recipes you make using the mix! Thanks for sharing.

  • @blueeggsitter Thanks! I will :-), have one coming up tomorrow.

  • I recently started making my own mixes, too. I vacuum seal them in family serving sizes in glass canning jars. I got most of the recipes from "Make-A-Mix" cookbooks from the library. I also print out labels with instructions on completing the mix. For the Bisquick mix, I like to use powdered buttermilk instead of regular powdered milk. Gives more flavor.

  • @VivianRinSC They sure are handy aren't they! I love knowing what's IN them to!

  • @HomesteadAcres I shared this vid on Facebook with my frugal friends. ☺

  • Looks tasty, Might need to try some homemade mix soon.

  • Great vid.........thanks. Maybe I'll have some biscuits and gravy in the morning.

  • I seem to have everything to make that.

I will never buy premix again... Thank you very much.

    Peace, Love and Light

  • groovy, tys

  • Ohh this will come in handy because my husband and kids loooveee pancakes...I am not crazy about them... :-(...I would rather have a piece of fruit.....Yum..hahha

  • good looking mix

    thanx
