Just to let you know, I remember when people said Continuum was going to suck because of "Waiting on the world to change" But look at Continuum now. You most likely know every word to at least 5 songs on it. At least.
You know you get those unreleased songs John plays, like In Your Atmosphere and Sucker, and you're in two minds whether he should record them and put them on a studio album or keep them as is since you're so used to the unreleased versions.. Yeah, this song is perfect as is, I don't think I could listen to any other version than this! Utterly brilliant!
Inside Wants Out was an EP (Extended Play). If it was an album, it would be called so instead of being called an EP. An EP is more songs than one, which would be a single, and then less than an album, which is typically no less than 9 or 10. Inside Wants Out consists of 8 songs.
I will FOREVER LOVE JOHN HE WILL ALWAYS ALWAYSS BE MY FAVORITE MALE SINGER OF ALL TIME I LOVED SINCE HE'S VERY FIRST ALBUM ROOM FOR SQUARES WITH THAT PICTURE OF JOHN AND THAT SWEET SMILE . 22 years old loved since I was 12 :) many years of loving this talented man have ALL HE'S ALBUMS ANS CAN'T WAIT TO BUY THE NEXT MASTER PIECE HE HAS COMING :)
@AmTheBestDamnThing11 room for squares was technically his second album.. he had an ep prior to it with songs that didnt come out on room for squares like victoria and comfortable.
@Solaris2989 if we're speaking technically, an EP is an 'extended play', which isn't the same as an album as it is too short to officially be labelled an album. so Room for Squares was his first album...
@larry1boy0 A lot of the riffs in "Whiskey, Whiskey, Whiskey" hint at an electric, and "Something Like Olivia" ended up being played electric as well. We'll just have to see when the album comes out. :). Remember "Running Changes n.1"? He hasn't debuted that yet, but I'm pretty sure he's gonna work with that.
@nomarfan3 A lot of his previous songs were introduced like this. very rootsy and even odd. there's an incomplete version of Assassin somewhere and it sounds very strange, but it turned out to be the coolest melody I have ever heard in my (young).
Despite what anyone believes, it's not up to John to play what YOU like... and just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's not good. When you think that he sucks, just remember, there's a reason he's famous and you are not.
He has this look of desperation when he's talking about his storage units ... he doesn't want to hear people clapping and yelling about that. This is first hand experience that money can't buy happiness ... he sounds lonely in all these new songs
@wads629gb Damn right. Now he knows all his Rolex collection, nice cars, Oliver Peoples sunglasses and YSL sweaters can't buy him happiness at all. I know all of us at a certain point in life would want all that, but you'd surely pause to think and look back, is it really that worth it? I hope he really grows up this time.
@MattWaldinger Okay so I started figuring it out. It goes something like this:
Verse:
C-G-F-C-Dm-C-G-'?'
C-G-F-C-'?'
Chorus:
C-F-'?'
I'm still missing the chord that goes where the question mark is, but I think that's the same chord in all those places. I haven't looked at the bridge yet.
looks like John will bring the harmonica back to mainstream land - how long has it gone since I saw someone famous not over the age of 50 play this great instrument?
@BryantPlayGuitar Simon Fowler from Ocean Colour Scene, in 90s britpop. They were the biggest band in the UK when he was doing that on songs like The Circle and So Low. But other than that, no one I know of! So glad john has picked up that mantle.
@larry1boy0 I'd be very surprised if he put it on considering he has already used part of it for FLoN, it would be great. I'd love to see Taking On Water personally.
It's amazing how this guy keeps surprizing me every single time he performs, The first time I listened to hi I tought he was jus a pop singer without real talent then comes the trio and I started to actually LISTEN and now Im amazed by his whole stuff Im a blues guitar player and this guy helped me open my mind. Coz truth be told Music is not about styles but about how we can express our feelings through something that is beyond human nature.
I am SOO glad he opens his eyes when he sings now!!! I love his brown eyes! Like the facial hair, baby boy! He is such a wonderful musician!! Keep it up Johnny!!!
Today was hard but I've made my way and I'd of found the strength soon I don't want to be long, Holding on 'I need to write that last part' I smile I yawn I play along But all I known about life Is that you don't belong holding on You know I really can't take this place I've got to shuffle up all the scenery around me I'm never finishing what I start I was born with a portable heart There was a flight that left tonight and lifts before the dawn That I should of been on
@marieview oh, hehe I see. Well I don't know what it means, maybe it means a heart that doesn't get attached or fixed to something/someone/a feeling........
@marieview A heart that you can transport... it's sort of like a metaphor.
What he means by that is that his heart can't stay still for too long, it's gotta move thus "you know I really can't take this place, I gotta shuffle up the scenery around, I'll never finish what I start"
Of course, the song is much deeper thank that, and I don't quite feel like analyzing it because it's 3 AM in my country right now...
Love this new song! I can really relate to his image of the portable heart... of feeling like you don't belong in the place you are. Thanks for the post.

@lllzehcnaslll Seriously? This folk stuff is horrible and his new stuff is just garbage for John Mayer, one of the best musicians on earth. There is absolutely none of his style blues in any of his new songs. I really hope he comes back around.
@paulsim26 why can't he change? he can't keep doing the same thing all the time and Something Like Olivia is a I IV V, the same progression as most blues songs.
@lllzehcnaslll Yep, hopefully he can get this "blue" period out of the way, It's not the John Mayer I love, but I understand he needs to get some things out there that he cares more about personally then selling millions.
