he found a starving dog in the street, brought it into the gallery, FED IT, and tied it up for 3 hours, and it later escaped. this is on the humane society's website.
he named it Natividad after a man who was killed by Rottweilers, to no consequence. he wanted to show that an animal that even SEEMED to be mistreated in a gallery would cause an uprage when dogs and people that die in the street every day are ignored. and it worked
I do realize that this is a cruel thing to do, but the point of the art piece is to show you that people will make a big deal out of one dog starving to death; But what about all the rest of the dogs starving? What are you going to do about them? Thats the point of what he is trying to send across. Go ahead and rate this a thumbs down if you're ignorant but its true. But in no way do I support animal abuse, I'm just explaining why he is doing this art piece.
Doing it on purpose, that's the difference... you can't feed all the dogs and people in the world, but that doesn't entitle you to torture an innoccent living creature.
In that case, I'll kill that Guillermo Vargas bastard in a theatre, and claim that's art for me, and actually, I would be supported by more than two. (Don't worry, I won't stain my hands with his disgusting blood)
No one debates his "point". It is easy to understand. But his methods in communicating that point are barbaric and unnecessary. And his indictment of peoples' reactions to suffering extends to himself, for he facilitates the suffering here. Watch his YouTube interview...his theoretical support for the "piece" is flimsy at best. He is not very bright or articulate, and he exposes himself as one who is seeking a "reaction", rather than using art as a transformative vehicle.
You do not have to murder something or someone in order to prove that murder is wrong. If his message is ultimately a moral one (which it is), then he is contradicting himself (which, for what it's worth, constitutes artistic failure, at least in Aristotle's criteria).
I was send this a email showing this petition a few days ago, and still my anger has lowered. This is barbaric and i know what i would like to do to this artist.
Have signed the petition and passed on to many friends.
I think it is disgusting and if the pics are indeed genuine then absoloutely inexcusable and sickening. Anyone who went to that exhibition to see the dog and did nothing is just as guilty as the artist. The gallery claims that the dog escaped after the first day but I doubt it very much just look at how it wastes away. Sounds like damage limitation on the gallery's part. Sadly Costa Rica where the artist is from has no animal cruelty laws.
It is unbelievable, how bloody disgusting some people are. i wouldnt believe the gallery at all,as you say Kensingto you can see the poor thing wasteing away :O(make sure you sign the petition ;O)
Already have. Sickening. I grew up with dogs and I am sorry but someone who can inflict any form of cruelty or abuse on an animal is sub human. This is not art. It's the equivalent of bear baiting. The people who attended the exhibition have to share some of that guilt as does the gallery. Thanks for alerting me to this.
ART! This is no where near the term. This is an example of the sickness that lays within people. The sicko and the people who were also sick enough to participate as viewers are the main reason 'humanity' has a bad name amongst the highly developed beings we share this planet with. The 'thing' that created this "art" needs to be a participant in his own study, but unlike this poor canine, he should be left entirely alone to die. Maybe it will teach him a lesson in "art". Ralph J Phillips
The absolute barbarity in some human beings is beyond me.The artist, the gallery an dthe sick bastards who went to watch, and stood and watched this animal is just beyond words
i hear you on that, and it really sickens me how someone can do taht to a defensless animal. also to jsut sit there and be stupid enough to buy into this being art. what's next, doing the same thing to a human child? no joke.
