  • Take note, Pamela Ferris was eating an orange. In all 3 Godfather films when an orange is seen on screen a character is either betrayed or murdered soon after.

    A brilliant reference.

  • FIAT Multipla for ever! :-)

  • @22passi :: Marchionne goes to Hollywood ; )

  • I saw the making-of and I still don't understand how the hell does the camera get out of the car at 3:35.

  • @jaaymaax The best answer I can come up with is that when the camera was facing the other way, a cameraman just leaned in and picked it up.

  • where does the camera go?

  • Okay, so how in the world did they pull that off??

  • @freddiehangoler I think you'll find it was real! Either that or they're lying about it in this doc "Children of Men - long takes" Whichever, it's a sweet sequence!

  • Amazing this was one shot.

  • In my opinion this is one of the most compelling scenes in the history of cinema.

  • You could tell Juilian's death was a set up, because when the flaming car was coming down onto the road, the driver slowed down instead of speeding up and driving past it.

  • @AIONBERSERKER If you were watching this for the first time, you could just as easily chalk that up to him being scared of the car and unwilling to risk being hit by it; however, after you find out his motive, the fact that he slows down does make the set-up that much more clear.

  • Amazing cinematography!!!!!

  • its not a real one shot... allot of special effects editing...

check -Child of the long take: Alfonso Cuaron's film aesthetics in the shadow of globalization in google

  • This is one of the most powerful films i've ever seen! It had me laughing and crying (Yes... Crying!) at parts, plus the story is totally unique. It lulls you into a sense of security and then drops you butt naked into hell... Like in this scene, they are all laughing and full of joy then all of a sudden theres a crowd of people shooting at them and pelting the car with rocks! It caught me totally unawaire, and this isnt the only part of the movie that does this! It was a 10 out of 10! 6 Stars!

  • how the fuck did he film that shot????

  • Has anyone watched the making of featurette?? It shows a giant rig they've made on top of the car and around the bottom of it, too. What i can't understand is how they made the very last bit of this shot. It shows outside of the car and it has none of the rigging or crew. Was this done electronically later on? It is completely seamless. Incredible stuff.

  • Brillaint sequence from a brillaint movie. Great director.

  • this scene is probably one of the best out of all movies ever

  • I'm pretty sure this movie has the award for longest action sequence, being the shot from when he runs into the hospital, to walking out with the baby. I just watched it again today - 10 minutes long.

    A 10 fucking minute sequence.

  • @LostCallProductions hate to tell you, but while it's still an amazing pair of shots, that ten minute sequence actually has a stealth cut as he passes a pillar just as he gets into the hospital. I still love the crazy shots though.

  • @tsubori ... yeah, I actually watched this movie a few minutes after I posted that and noticed it (as I'd only seen it once before). I was mildly disappointed, but at the same time, you can only do so much, right?

Even so, I think it has the record.

  • ONE TAKE! PERFECT!

  • one of the best one take scenes ever done in Cinema

  • great scene man, gooda film!

  • i love how theo uses the door as a weapon loads of times :L

  • that motocycle flip is epic

  • Even viewed on YouTube, this scene is still unbelievable.

I saw the making-of but there is still something I can’t understand: the car was a very complex system, bigger than a car, but how did they do at 3:38, when Clive Owen gets out of the car, and we see the car leaving from the outside?

  • Reminds me alot of a game like Resident Evil where you have to deal with similar obstabcles. Very good film.

  • This has to be one of the greatest films of all time. Truly can be counted as a work of arts. Some shots (like the one is this video) are amazing. The best part about this scene is how after Theo and the Driver get out of the car and the police are shot, the camera stays outside, and shows the car driving off. So meaningful

  • The car door is Theo's weapon of choice.

  • Stupid question, but was that all real or was it green scene?

It just seems hard to believe that that could be one continuous shot ...

  • @1990Lostboy It was real. They set up a car that had a very complex rigging system. You should hire the dvd and watch the special features. IT's quite amazing!

  • Incredibly well done. I had shivers in the theatre.

  • I wonder how many times they rehearsed this sequence till they got it right... f**k! This is one the most impressive one take sequences ever made!

  • Things can change in a minute.

  • They probably won't top the opening shot in "Touch of Evil"...That was mind blowing!!

  • No denying this is awesome, but I think we all know the greatest tracking shot ever is in Hard Boiled.

  • @UncleMcCrustyPoo Agreed, that scene is just so amazing, the way it flows so well. It looks great with all the turns and movement, a great film.

  • Realised where this was filmed - the Bourley Road between Fleet and Aldershot - drive down it most weekends to take the dogs for a walk. On the left hand side of the car in the first 1/3 of the clip is Caesar's Camp where they filmed Band of Brothers - the running to the top of the hill sequence.

  • @Climpus that's awesome!

  • @Climpus Farnham REPRESTENT! :) I love how many film are shot around our areas. I live about a mile from the Bourne Woods which is where they filmed the opening scene in gladiator among many others.

  • who hold the camera in this scene ?

  • @sunnychenpo no one, it was a robotic camera arm, mounted on top of the car...watch the making, just type in "Children of Man - The making" it's truly ingenious.

  • Is that really filmed with one camera only?????

  • I love it when he kicks open the door haha

  • @junably Same rofl

  • best scene ever made! that's why im looking for this scene on youtube dohhhh

  • WTF! How did he do this? ITS ALL ONE FRIGGIN SHOT!

I have never seen this but I'll make sure I do.

  • it's like the camera wasn't there

  • Fantastic film. This scene is particular is amazing. Thanks for uploading it.

  • was yesterday on dutch television and i find it genious that they made the camara also as a person of the movie . but then i missed this all. toiyugh i knew that this was on tv but there were also other movies and i only watched the poart of when she got the child and gone into the colony

  • yeah yesterday this was on dutch television i only watched the part tough where they get into the colony where she gets the baby but then a riot starts..i find it ginius how they done it . like the camaraman is just as them poeple in the movie

  • when i first saw this scene i was saying out loud "holy shiiiit"... and "Oh fuuck" one of my favorties movies of all time

  • 2:00 - 2:20 is fucking intense. Awesome filmwork.

  • this really helps for my feature article on children of men!!!!!!!!!! thankxxxxxx a many

  • This black guy's a traitor...

  • fantastic, I don't mind how they did it (they all had fold down seats) but the way the camera moved to the outside of the car and let it drive away!! woah!!

  • i love these one shot takes, movies often loose intensity when they cut. and i just love the fact that this was soooo unexpected, i love surprise twists, thats one thing movies lack these days, i could already tell whats going to happen. by the way, this is to the uploader, change the thumbnail, it gave this thing away

  • The dynamics of this film are unrivaled. Only film in my opinion that touched the gritty ethos of Children of Men is District 9.

  • this is one of the most well shot scenes in movies. simply brillant.

  • that was amazing!

  • Most realistic scene ever

  • The car rig they invented for this shot is just legendary. One take until the match shot when Theo gets out of the car. No blue screens whatsoever.

Check out the Blu-ray if you haven't.

  • The car rig they invented for this shot is just legendary. One take until the match shot when Theo gets out of the car. No blue screens whatsoever.

  • lol i friggen yawned as julian moore yawned lol.

  • I still wonder how they got this whole shot.

  • I think the shot where they get captured and then enter that hospital is the best tracking shot but this is vrrry amazing

  • Holy shit. In today's murder-saturated media scene, how often do you see a movie - or any type of fiction that matter - that can make you audibly gasp when someone gets shot? Because I almost shat myself at 2:08.

  • Simply Amazing...

  • i dont get why there after them i she has the baby they will be saved so why do they what to kill her?

  • one of the best parts of the movie.. looked so real.. the director is a genius..

  • flawless cinematography... if you know anything about film making you would understand how impossible this and the other discussed shot really are.

  • Incredible camera work :)

  • could anyone point out where the digital cuts are?

  • Ah she should have pressed B. That got me the first time too. They don't tell you.

  • Best. Cinematography. Ever.

    Best. Camera work. Ever.

    End of story.

  • I don't remember seeing anything like this in cinema. Probably the best tracking shot ever. I can't believe Emmanuel Lubezki still hasn't won an oscar!

  • I love this scene and this movie!

  • i hated this flick. I don't give a rat's ass about your long shots. Just give me a good story for once.

  • ^helbard

    >Implying you could even think up of something better.

    >Implying you're not overgrown for your comment.

    >Implying you know GOOD STORY.

  • that black guy is either a moron or he planned the whole thing. he didn't see the burning wreck until the word impact flashed on his futuristic hud?

  • meh, another mindless liberal view of the future

  • oh jeez i said cameron...meant Cuarón

  • My friend actually told me this movie was mindless and unrealistic (on the other side, she loves Transformers, which isn't unrealistic at all?!!?)

I think, this movie is brilliant. Period.

  • definitely agree with you. haha your friend sounds misguided

  • @kflze maybe she thinks transformers are in real life xD

  • @DendA1911

yep, maybe? All I know is, that Transformers 1+2 are her fav movies right now, but well tastes differ (Fortunately!!) ;o) I think I don't have to say what my fav movie right now is...

  • @kflze your friend needs to learn a little bit about good film. XD

  • @kflze i guess it didnt have enoguh cgi robots and explosions for her to consider good

  • @kflze and it means that your friend is dumbass..

  • @kflze How Old is she? I have a sister who claims that The Godfather is mindless violence and that Ghost Ship is an amazing horror film. I am disillusioned.

  • @AlexDeLargeisHere

    Maybe I better not tell...

    she's 30.

  • @kflze My Sister is 32. She also did not want to watch Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind because it had bored her within the first two minutes. I wish that some people would liberate their minds.

  • that was a composit of about five or six different shots. I've no idea how they combined them so flawlessly.

  • Believe it or not is was only one shot. If you look in the related videos section, you should see a video called "Children of Men - long takes" posted by "FilmmakerATlarge" It shows the neat mechanism they used to get inside the car like that. It's really cool actually.

  • @billythehick nope the brilliance of the movie and cameron's directing style was the loooong painstakingly organized shots that made the movie so real to the viewer. i think u can see another video on youtube that shows how they rigged the car with a special camera.

  • @mashimarro22 I've seen it, I still can't belive they got it so right.

  • This is what you call, "movie magic."

  • the car is so small ..............how did they film that ?

did they use wide lens and a steadycam ?

  • Of course wide angel lens. The Camera was inside the Van and the scenes are just amazing. The directors techniques and ongoing tracking shots wre brilliant. Not alot of film makers use Tracking Shots. YOu can see an 8 minute tracking shot in the film " The Player".

  • @austin6229 thanx for replaying ......i

am trying to learn filmmaking techniques throw books

and experimenting .......any ideas where they

place the light and how they recorded the dialogue

? its a wide angle the mic gonna be appear

  • Ya you should attend Intro to Film : )

  • this is my favorite of movie of all time....not because i believe it's the best of all time.....but because i like to think of it has my generation's citizen kane :D

  • i have to see this film! it must be a crime not to watch it! i didnt even know it... looks great!!!

  • @snowdjagha shouldnt have watched this scene if you havent scene the full movie

  • @pizzaisfuntoeat yeah i know. i was too curious!! anyway, i have it on dvd and ill watch it soon!

  • Beautiful shot from a beautiful film.

  • My generation's version of "Blade Runner". Absolutely brilliant.

  • one of the best films every made, another scene in this movie that is ridiculous is when Theo runs into the building while soldiers are fighting, starting from the part where he is on his knees all the way to the entrance of the building, was on shot. i think even passed the entrance it cuts somewhere up stairs in that building.

  • Yeah, that's definitely another great scene. I actually tried to upload that scene as well but ran into copyright issues.

  • @karbine409 Correction: One of the best "action" films ever made.

  • This is without a doubt the best scene I have ever seen. The fact it's so early in the film that Julian dies is a nice break from the mould, as it's implied that she's gonna be a main character.

  • Anyone else notice that when they take off at the very end of this video, the driver switches to the right lane instead of staying in the left? Haha

  • the killsssss

  • When Julian died, a little part of me died inside also.

  • @jc55 Same here.

  • this movie make me wonder why that black dude didn't pull out his pistol and shot back at the bikers

  • Have you seen the movie? There's a very good reason why the black dude doesn't shoot at the bikers, just like there's a very good reason the bikers didn't shoot at him...

  • @monotonybreaks Should've been dead a while ago, and then everything is sorted.

  • did you not get an idea of what was to happen by the end of this scene? he had a gun the whole time and never shot it.

  • because he (the driver) is the one who planned to kill julia... the girl on the front seat...

  • my comment was directed at condorX2. apparently i didnt hit the reply button i guess lol. its about 4 comments below mine.

  • @condorX2 are you retarded? he was working with the bikers and set this whole thing up.

  • @mmeasy123 you're such a dumb ass measy. I didn't watch the movie. I only watch portion of video hence I asked that question.

you just made a retard out of yourself. lolx

    what a pathetic pos you're.

  • @condorX2 It's obvious you are very mad, so just calm down. YOU are the moron here. You write "this movie make me wonder why that black dude didn't pull out his pistol and shot back at the bikers." To any logical person that means you watched the ENTIRE movie and couldn't figure it out. You obviously feel stupid and I don't blame you, being that you are a stupid moron who can't follow a simple movie lol. It's not that serious though, just calm down and take a deep breath :)

  • well i know its a little off topic but could anyone id the song playing in the radio.?

  • Go watch what James Cameron did in the movie True Lies. Just watch what he does with the camera, it will blow you mind if you enjoyed this. Also go watch the movie Panic Room. Some of the most dazzling camera work in movie history. Don't take my word for it, just go watch those two movies for a treat.

  • Haven't seen True Lies, and since I'm a Cameron fan, I think I'll definitely have to see it. And Panic Room is great.

  • A brilliant exercise in the art of cinematography.

  • 2:18 best part.

  • one of my top 5, if not top 3 fave movies!

  • I fucking love this scene.

  • This is absolutely *amazing* film making.

Yes, having watched it several times I see where the "digital cuts" are.... But, watching it the first time through was nothing short of magical. You weren't just watching it... you were INSIDE it, and that's an incredible achievement...

  • 1:25

    Oh my God, it's PENSHAW!!!

  • god sake why dont british cops have guns now?

  • omfg!!

  • crazy ass movie

    loved it

  • Much respect to Alfonso Cuaron and other directors who do these long takes. It must have been difficult to get everything right in one try.

  • I liked the part where he knocks the guys off the cycle and they go spinning over the hood. AWESOME MOVIE

  • amazing...

  • perfecto ;)

  • Oh fuck, that sounds real.

I have never heard any film where they included that dumbness in your hearing from a gun going off directly in front of you. At that range you don't hear the bang....

  • @leeham991 They even address when your ears ring like that earlier in the movie. Good stuff.

  • Aye?

I always miss the film, only ever seen the last 15 minutes and a few youtube clips. Am keeping an eye out for the DVD though

  • @leeham991 Well, I guess you really fucking need to see his movie then. :)

  • I love this movie. For me, its a masterpiece. Great story with great action scenes! ... and stuff

  • that was crazy

  • I was blown away the first time I saw this shot. Props to the director for pulling it off. Just saw this on Bluray and saw the making of this shot and man, it required a TON of work!

  • goodness me how the cameraman was moving to do this tracking shot inside a car...

  • Amazing movie done by an amazing cast and crew.

  • Theres no cameraman in there, the camera moves on rails on the car roof. the actors often had to crouch together to not be hit by the camera as it pans around.

Its all in the special features in the DVD. Unfortunately the long scenes are digitally stitched together some places, but its still a incredible piece of coordination.

  • @sparks444 I wouldn't say "unfortunately" the long scenes were pieced together. In the end, all that matters is the effect of the scene on the screen. Do it with digitally disguised cuts or not, all the matters is the final effect, and the two big long shots in this movie are masterful. Often long takes are just stunts and don't help the storytelling at all. I think in both scenes in this movie it adds verisimilitude - make it feel almost like a documentary - and thus they are more exciting.

  • 2:17

  • I saw the way how this scene was made, what I wanna know is how did everything disappear once the camera gets out of the car?

    Great scene

  • its called 'cinema magic', broseph.

  • They cut to a different shot when Clive Owen gets out. You can tell because the background behind the cops is different from when you look out from inside the car to when you go outside.

  • wow, I just rewatched the scene on my zune and you're right. It's like everything became darker once Clive Owen gets out of the car

  • such a wonderful scene. i especially like that last bit of it where the cameraman moves seamlessly out of the car and gets left behind. almost like he was so surprised by the shooting that he forgot to get back in. really adds to the emotion.

but what makes this a 'tracking' shot? the camera is free moving.

  • holy shit, cancel that. i just saw the making of and the ridiculous contraption they made. god damn they are good.

  • Comment removed

  • WOW

  • Forget the end scene, this is fantastic.

  • @OneYearMovieProject I actually (slightly) prefer this scene to the big one at the end, as well. This one is so sudden and "out of the blue" (not in a bad way, though), that it hits you right in the gut.

  • unique cinimatography. Nice:)

  • I love this scene
