  • incredible :OOOOO *____*

  • i wud get carried away and break the guitar

  • ja sie kurwa pytam - JAK!?

  • ive seen a lot of things in my life... and this is the most amazing thing evaaa! WOW

  • Great performance!

  • fucking crazy awesome. well done bro

  • How come 20 people unliked it? I found this tutorial pretty useful, its so motivating! Things you play look quite difficult but now I can see they are possible just with a bit of work. You're a very good teacher. I'm subscribing the channel. I'd love to hear and see more about percussive acoustic guitar!

  • really cool vid but i have to say its pretty badly explained. i'm sure theres something else to the chopping part. it'd be more helpful if you did it slow and gradually increased speed to show the technique better

  • shiiiiit. :o my hands hurt. i think im doing something wrong. xD my mom thought i was a complete idiot. Shes all like 'why are u doing that? are you just TRYING to get it broken or something?'

plus, i cant fret worth a crap. and when i change chords, i do it wayy to slow. ive been playing for 3 months now, but just cant get a hang of it. :) luckily theres a music shop opening up in a nearby town, so im gonna take some lessons. xD

  • I can't figure out the chopping, can you give me advice? I am generally a fast learner so once I get it, I'm good.

when I slap the fretboard for the snare it sounds decent, and when I hit my wrist on the body it sounds decent too(but sometimes a little bit too quiet)

when I "chop" it just sounds like really lame strumming or it sounds just like the "snare".

Can you explain to me the difference and give further advice playing this way?

  • wow! great!

  • Vraiment malade

  • I WANNA PLAY LIKE YOU!

  • this is awesome! pretty hard, tho I really wanna learn this! you gotta do more tutorials man! you rock =D

  • i tried and it hurts to do this! are you using a classical guitar?

  • august rush. ya good movie.

  • I cant even, i just- wow. When i learn to do this, ill be a happy man.

  • Whenever I start to think that I'm a good guitar player, I come and watch this video and realize how far I have to go...

14 years of classical guitar experience, 10 years of funk bass, 10 years of progressive metal drumming and I still can't put together a good slam rhythm...fml

  • well played,..but not really a good lesson,..should better explain the "chopping part" how you called it

  • That look like a lot of fun...to bad i'll never be able to do that

  • @ViceCrucify: If you have the drive and a passion for music in you, I don't see why you couldn't, ...at least to some degree. If you always have a beat or especially your own rhythms and music in your head but can't get it out someway through some sort of instrument or your voice, you'll always have this nagging feeling like something is missing from your life. It helps to start at a young age when things are more easily learned, but its never too late to start. ...just sayin. ;)

  • lol you g

  • thx a lot!

  • Hey man.. I learned how to play this song.. I am OK with the slap, but i am struggling to get any good sounds out of it while playing.. I tabbed the song out myself.

I have learned a bit of flamenco finger techniques that makes the guitar sound percussive when it is muted.. otherwise I have only really been able to get out drum pattern out of the guitar

Do you have an extra pick up or something? Otherwise, could you post up another video showing basic slap techniques?

Thanks man, i'm a big fan

  • that was awesome. it wasn't exactly the best lesson, but i'll try to learn from it as much as possible.

  • i wanted to ask, Pete, how many years have you been playing guitar? and how many years have you been developing that kind of beat style?

  • How are you strumming so accurately as well? You are a legend tbh

  • love your style!!

  • Great Introduction! love it. Now I know how to drum my guitar:D

  • heeey, great vid... don't think I can learn how to do that anyway.. but, just a question, do you have more songs like the thing you played at the beginning of the video?? just after the "cooking beats with pete" and until the "that was fun, right??" ??

  • what was bass line thing that you did and is there anyplace that i could get a tab for it?

  • our music teachers brother

  • sweet, now I don't have to buy a drum or drums. the dialog is kind of cheesy, but excusably cute since it's from a non-native english speaker. i love drumming on tables, this is perfect! uhhh, i'm going to really irritate everyone else around me trying to practice this though . . . love this vid!

  • nice :)

  • yup, I'm gonna go try this right now! underline the try a couple times...

  • I use to play congo drums, but it will be interesting to learn to play like this with my guitar, I need to learn how to play some classical guitar and get some basics on playing slap bass.... I'ma learn this one way or another thanks for the inspiration ;).

  • pretty cool beats on your guitar. very nice.

  • I really like this !

  • thanks for the lesson

  • wow can someone tell me wath the name of the song in the end is?

    thanks

  • funny guy lool

  • Super Duper. Thank you!

  • HI........erm ....can i know how much is this guitar?

  • dude really thankyou....ive been trying to incorporate drummin into my guitar playin since I rap over the acoustic guitar and wanna just be an all in one sound..you have opened up ore doors of creativity and technique thankyou very much

  • Hi, can you tell me if your guitar is in standard tuning?

  • does he have any more stuff in standard tuning?

  • Srry forget that! Just red all reactionsand got my answer :p

  • Wow, so nice ^^

I've been trying to learn it myself, but I don't get how you both slap as well as play/hit the strings. Can you maybe put a slowmotion part about that as well??

  • haha i love the way you talk and a so "whatever" feel about it :) awesome video, and it sounds wonderful <3

  • unbelievable...im gonna try to learn this now

  • nice funk

  • カッテイング、すごくカッコよいですね。練習して自分も真似してみたい^^;

    因みにどこのメーカのギターですか?

  • DAMN! YOURE THE MAN! :[

  • fucking difficult imo.. virtulous..-.-

  • Your fucking awesome!

  • by chopping, do you mean to hit the strings or the guitar?

  • Hey, when is the part 2 coming?

    peace.

    -p

  • He was at our school today! ;D .. You are right.. He is soo AWESOME! ;D

  • Its soo hard !! Ive found this video very useful, it is the coolest way in the world to play a guitar and you were a good teacher.. more details would be great... !! , Love it.. ! A

  • Thank you very much for sharing!

  • 彈得好kai -_-??

  • sweeeeet!

  • could you make a video explaining the chop into more details? that would be awesome!

  • GENIOUS! xd

  • hi this is a mad video thanks uv got some talent there..im in need of some help plz im just wondering how u have gotten the melody going with the beat like what are you using to play the melody...struming in between ? thanks

  • Hi Sq4444!

Yea, most of the time i'm picking out the melody between the main hits. Prime for example is all about 8th note backbeat melody. My left hand is working pretty much like in normal rhythm guitar playing, muting some of the strings so the right notes ring.

    Cheers!

    -p

  • cool

  • Dude! It's Sai! I've been getting better at this but I'm still not as funky as your beats! Check my new vid My Crime, I seem to be able to play the beat and now pick out melodies... Can't wait for your new vid with more tips!

PS: I'm the only one in the Ottawa music circuit that seems to play this style! Help me soar beyond dude! Strumming and doing the beat is easy, slap harmonics easy... what else!?

  • Hi Sai!

Good work! I'm very happy to see you've found this stuff useful. I can't to give out very precise things since someday I'll do the detailed teaching DVD ;) But anyway, you'll figure out the things that fit you the best when you play enough.

    -p

    -p

  • hey pete making progress like chunsai, but im wondering 2 things

    1. whens that dvd comming out?

    2. how do i strum evn though im studying.

  • Howdy Rico!!

1.Dunno, somewhere in the future, 2010 earliest.

    2.Sorry, I didn't understand. Come again?

    -p

  • LMAO i was studying when i wrote that mussage lol

    1. well at least its comming :D

    2. i meant to say how do u strum even though your beating the studying made me type wrong

    o.o'

    -r

  • This is definetly a great thing. rarely do I meet musicians who inspire me to learn new techniques. Petteri is one of them. I´m looking forward to the second part.

  • woah! what kind of guitar is that, haha

  • Hi, Pete,

I've got the idea down pretty well and have been mucking around a fair bit with it. I have had a bit of a problem though- the 'snare'. Do you have any tips for making sure that the chord rings out loud and clearly, and for ensuring that you don't accidentally hit a harmonic?

    Cheers,

    Chris

  • hi doyley!

loads of tips for that is coming in part 2. u can also hit the strings with your index finger etc. but hit the thumb on the top at the same time. that way u can have totally separate control for the strings and the snare hit but still being able hit them down with the same stroke.

    -p

  • haha for the past hour i have been practicing a beat i made up using some of these techniques... my hands are literally bleeding... like menstral bleeding it's that bad lol jk

but either im doing something weird or my hands are just little bitches

  • Nah they're supposed to bleed, brings out the fullness and richness of the tone. >_>

  • Hi! Yea sometimes I accidentally hit the strings in a bad angle and it opens up the top of my middle finger. I use some plastertape for protection every now and then.

Play easy, don't hurt yourself ;)

    -p

  • Hey Petteri, I really dig your stuff and I am pretty pumped for part 2. I was wondering, what are the kinds of chords you are playing near the beginning and after around 2:20? They are the kind of "lighter" funky chords. Pretty smooth, but still funky. I know there is a lot of dominant chords in funk, so is that generally what you are sticking around when you're playing in that style? I feel like there are a good deal of extended chords too. Thanks for any feedback man!

  • Hi TheDMK!

    Thnx. Beginning is C#m9, Emaj9 & F#7sus4. 2:20 is Em7, Cmaj9 & Am7.

    Happy playing ;)

    -p

  • Thank you a ton, I'll be sure to mess around with some of that stuff later. Keep doing what you do.

  • This is fucking great man. Cheers for the tips.

  • 如何下在载? <--- if some one knows what thats means tell me lol

  • yea, what tuning do u have lol?

i know its not the normal one for sure

  • hi!

well, on this video i actually use the normal tuning but usually i use DADGAD quite a bit, on "prime" for example.

    -p

  • Mate, do you tune your gutar in some open chord or anything????? I mean how come it sounds that good!!! i'm feeling like a prick with my gitar just right now!!

  • u are a legend mate. come to the UK!!!

  • 如何下在载?

  • amazing... but how do take care of youre nails so it will be strong enoth to take the preasure of a steel string? do you use fake nails?

  • hi!

i got quite strong nails but the more i play the more they wear out so sometimes i need to use some basic nail-strengthener polish -stuff.

    -p

  • What also helps is to vile (is that the word) your nails frequently. A smooth nail wears out much less than a jaggy one, and it also prevents your nails from tearing if you get stuck behind a string (don't ask me how I do it...)

Now of course the reason I reply to petteri and not to srv779 is so I can ask this once more:

WHEN IS PART 2 COMING? =)

    Regards, Hans

  • hans! you're on point, filed nails! i keep mine in a sort of a classical shape but shorter for the steel-strings.

part2 comes when i get the new camera. i left the old one on top of a car (doh!!!!)

    -p

  • Dude! so Awesome! Good Job! Hey, Imagine adding Beatboxing to it ! It would be like the ultimate Impro... ? What do u think ??? xD

  • Thank you very much for sharing your science in such a precise manner with us. I have found that many guitarists like to keep their little tricks & secrets for themselves, but you sir, will help guitarists getting the chicks at party ! Hooray !

  • Hey man, do u have any recommendations for learning percussion techniques on the guitar. Especially strumming hand. By the way you rock!

  • ummm, start with simple things, all classical exercises do good, slapping as well for the wrist motions. you might wanna check into brazilian bandero playing. i dunno about it very much but i've heard the movements are quite similar :) and of course kotaro oshio has few good education-vids in youtube!

    -p

  • the band in the palm of your hands.. you are one amazing musician.

  • Hi guy ! You're really crazy...I like it !

  • hey petteri do you have a good song on youtube that is in C open tuning? that is CGCGCE

    it is my preferred tuning

i would like to play like you it is my goal - i have been practising table drumming and acoustic guitar after making the transition from electric last year

so yeah any song on here that are in C open that i can learn?

  • darn, can't think of anything. hmm, i think led zeppelin had something in that tuning. and maybe some muddy waters blues stuff! good luck :)

  • yes i can play 1 led zep song in c open. its the only one i know of though. thanx anyway. if you want to see some of my own stuff and give some advice which would be great go to my youtube page. thanks.

  • Lots of john butler songs are in open c

Groveyard by thomas leeb (ok so thats Cminor but just tune high E to d*)

probably not exactly what your were after but its something

  • yeah i have learnt ocean - that is what got me onto C open. a lot of his stuff on grand national is in standard though but i think funky tonight might be in c open which would be good to learn. ill definately check out groveyard by tom leed though - thanx for the pointer. if you want to see some of my stuff check out my youtube page and let us know what you think. thanks mate.

  • john butker plays only with that tunning.

  • LOL! "Dont break your fingers"

  • You're funny :-D

    Loved the chords!

  • i am so looking forword to this part 2...

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH DUDE (^_^) i've been breaking down videos on youtube for a while, but i couldn't see clearly how you were doing all 3 sounds with one hand. now i do.

i play DADGAD so, this should be interesting!

thanks again man, you're one of the elite guitarists around.

  • that was great! p.s can you tell me the brand of your guitar? tks for uploading the vid DuDe

  • no prob, thanks! it's a err.. google for Cuntz Guitars :)

    -p

  • I want cuntz too :(

  • Awesome job!

  • Those chords sounded so amazing!!

  • i love to see people truely enjoying music like you

  • Unbelievable mate

  • chop is very hard.

plz upload another movie clip for "Slam"

    T.T

  • salut petteri, you work hard to do make this excellent style of playing.then you re certainly not lazy.. waiting for the second part...thanks for all and sorry if my english is not so good as your slam

  • is this any particular tuning?

  • hi!

nah, you can use any tuning you want, standard or open, because all the drumming happens independently in your right hand.

    -p

  • sup pete, the first part of that beat is chill man (:11 - :27) and the rest was straight jamin! what tunning were u using for that? at one point it sounded like open E?

  • that's just ye olde standard tuning :)

    -p

  • cool thanks man

  • look at my comment below lol.......its in standard

  • By the way, Do you gonna make song about that? THAT SOUNDS REALY GOO! :)

  • Very interesting technique. I will have to try it sometime. Thank you for posting! -Derek

  • VERRRRRYYYYYYYY NICE!!!!! I LOVE THIS SONG, i i prefer your song with felix zenger
