  • Saw them at the Dayton, Ohio Montgomery county fairgrounds about 1971?? not sure when old Red died.

  • don reno and red smiley with mac came to north jersey around 1960-61. he is the most original banjo player and never used a capo, no matter what key he played in. they were all friendly to us teenagers, too.

    ronnie was probably studying and did not come with them. the band was great and could play every kind of song in the world. reno was also one of the best flat pickers, like on country boy rock and roll, etc.

    he was the best.

  • @venusofwillendorf111 Yes, it is. Mack Magaha joined Reno & Smiley in 1955, and Porter Wagoner in 64.
