In 1990 or '91,somewhere in there, my babysitter got me a boy doll with a really creepy laugh. Traumatized the hell out of me and put me off dolls for life. And since my parents were good parents of that doll ASAP. But now I'm trying to figure out what doll it was that scared me so badly. Was it a Chucky doll? Or was there some boy doll that laughs?

I believe you and the public got it right. The Chucky doll was inspired by "That Doll" , but the ad campain and the brand name of the doll ("Good Guy" dolls) was inspired by the 80s "My Buddy" . It was probably 'That Kid,' because in the first Child's Play, Chucky looks somewhat like the 'That Kid' toy........ I think the 'My Buddy' toys came after Chucky to somewhat scare the shiznit out of the kids' parents'. But either way, Where do you find those dolls? I'm gonna ask for one around Christmas. Don't worry, you can keep yours, but where do you find them?

I see your point, and i think it;s interesting that there is a slight resemblance, but if i remember correctly the creator of Chucky was in his 20's at the time when he wrote Chucky, so with that said its really not even plausible that he would be inspired by such an old doll

Actually the designer of the chucky doll for the child's play films says that while my buddy played a part it was actually the cabbage patch and the talking "Corky doll" who served as the main refference for design with the Corky doll playing the chief one.

Even the voice of the infamous "HI I'M CHUCKY WANNA PLAY" in the child's play films and voice of the the corky toy were played by the same voice child voiceover actor, edan gross. so the similarities are undeniable.
