Sorry, this is not Dressage. Nothing properly gymnastic in this kind of training. I see a rider excercising forced control (no matter the horse isn't pulling against her) instead of working with the horse as a partner and presenting the pinnacle of gymnastic development -- a horse who's gaits are pure and the best they can be, in pleasant, light harmony with its rider in a dance-like performance. Never mind the biomechanical harm this does to the horse -- a whole book there.
Although riders are winning, the four-beat canter or lope is still against the rules. Even in AQHA for western pleasure riders. So why are these riders continually allowed to do this? Disgusting!
It is amazing to compare this to Dr. Klimke's warm-up video. His horse floated flawlessly with not a tail swish to be seen nor was he ever behind the vertical.
I still fail to see the benefits, even if this degree is not as cruel as the extreme of rollkur, but why put a horse on his shoulders, especially in piaffe, making him go light behind, and then have to get him back up again. Just isnt logical!
Thanks for these videos- I was also one of those with press passes and was able to watch these warm ups. To be honest, I had forgotten just how deep both Germans used to ride their horses. Interestingly, I saw Janssen watching both minutely, clearly formulating his own version. The contact is not heavy, but Gigolo still looks uneasy, tail swishing, and it so clearly puts him on his forehand a lot of the time.

You may think he's not stressed, but his tail tells a different story., This is really ugly.
