  • They want to reduce poluation on that category of people? That people make so much destruction to planet? I thing that maybe reconsider the problem and try to stop poluation and other to large producer.

    Alles Gute !

  • Neat concept!

BUT - #5 - Reduce spinal cord injuries from carrying wood...

You will NOT hurt your spinal cord by carrying anything, that's fear mongering. Yes, you can possibly get a low back strain of the muscles or bulge a disc onto a peripheral nerve root (very different from a SPINAL CORD injury...)

I work with spinal cord injured patients and low back pain patients, and the difference is between being a quadraplegic (NOT produced by carrying firewood) and having the occasional back ache.

  • rv36116,

in the video's defense, the inventor is from Kenya and they probably speak many other languages besides English.

  • Kangurski, no I will not send you any pictures of my penis. Stop asking.

  • Looks interesting!

Has anyone tried to make it yourself?

I'm a bit worried about plexi glass (non-recyclable where I live) & other possible trash too.. have they thought of a way to recycle them?

or make them in a more recyclable/sustainable way?

if they were zero waste I'd be totally enthusiastic about the idea!!

  • I've built one for a science project, though I haven't tested it out yet. I'm waiting for a nice, terribly hot and sunny day, just to be sure!

I might make a video response to this video in case anyone is interested.

If not, I'll try to post stuff on here at least.

  • I'm also concerned regarding using plexi glass. I think that it could start to melt due to the heat. If that happens it will give off toxic gases that might affect the food, not to mention inhaling them.

  • My mom used to use a solar oven to cook food (usually a soup) on hot summer days to help the house stay cool. It works well, and I think that glass works fine if you can find a junk yard piece big enough and get it cut. Plexi-glass is just what keeps the cost down.

  • So.. when will this be illegal?

  • how patronizing!! Its not as if African's are responsible for the majority of Co2 emissions, or for creating the demand for timber which causes deforestation. why don't we in the Western World use technology like this?? or better yet why don't we stop consuming so much??

  • Kangurski, maybe if you didnt like penis so much, you wouldnt be so uptight.

This is a brilliant idea that will help everyone (except Kangurski & his sore bum)

  • how on earth you got the association between an aluminium solar cooker and a penis...beats me. Never mind, you probably got your 900 bucks, so spend it wisely on carbon-neutral dildo

  • You know what's gonna happen... With time, boxes will "improved" at the cost of additional $20-$50 and with transport will cost $100 each. Then the dumb "poor africans" will use those boxes as fuel, burn them and then demand another one from those bad bad whites. Plexiglass will be cut in pieces and turned into knives they will later use to fight with each other or rape women at knifepoint. In 20 years whole africa will be covered in tonnes of discarded burned aluminium foil.

  • Best slippery slope argument ever!

Although you did overlook the part where they eat brains.

You really should move into right-wing politics, they need people with your imagination.

  • My hope is that he doesnt move into the right wing politics. Some degree of right wing policy is necessery and too good to host kangurski-likes.

  • Reality check bites, doesn't it. Mark my words and have some knedlicky instead of steak

  • How strange - Looking on Your profile - You can be quite perfectly human - treating, judging animals, but with humans you are so hard-boiled, so cynical. You are not without wit, but you do abuse it, You prefer to look like an idiot - unnecessarily - but its your choice.

As about the knedlicky - why not, well I choose one or the other, for I do like both :).

  • for the last 80 years "whites" tried to improve lives of africans by pumping billions of dollars in direct and indirect aid, all that gone to waste with recipients preferring to kill each other instead of working with each other. Africans are unable to sustain any kind of economy (look at Zimbabwe 20 years ago and now) and claiming that a carton box will change their lives forever is basicaly a lot of greenie propaganda. Cheers.

  • Deforestation IS a problem and at least someone is attempting to address it, rather than badmouthing and GENERALIZING about Africa.

In the study of African governance, one must realize that the imposed nation-state of colonial powers did not match traditional African social organization. Since independence, countries have grappled w/ elites ruling the central gov't, oppressing others, who are w/o recourse, resulting in conflict.

It's top-down power structures that are bad, not people.

  • what traditional african social organisation??? hunters and gatherers.. yeah, that used to work well.... obviously you and other morons can not comprehend, that it is impossible to live at the 21th century standards with neanderthal mentality, you can have one but you can't have both.

  • You comment drips with the same superiority complex of the colonial powers, referring to other cultures as 'primitive' & lesser simply b/c they aren't recognizable to you. Your comment betrays your ignorance of the world. Go read some postcolonial theory.

Not all Africans were hunter-gatherers, many were agriculturalists or pastoralists and some were SCHOLARS in Timbuktu. Furthermore, there were African kingdoms, such as the Empires of Ashanti, Mali, Aksumite, Wolof, and many others.

  • Obviously you've paid attention during black appreciation week and forgot to look around to check the real world. Hey, why don't you blame "white colonial powers" for turning the bread basket of Africa, Rhodesia, into a starving basket case of Zimbabwe. I'd rather be ignorant, than ... what's the word to describe someone who mistakes facts for his well wishes?

  • I STUDY Africa

Your continued emphasis on Zimbabwe & the specific phrases you use, mean youve read how to kill a country in The Atlantic, but remain uninformed about the rest of the continent. Zimbab is the way it is b/c of Mugabe, not blacks'

I also think you are one of those racist fucktards who isnt quite a neoNazi, but who is more than pleased to be one of those abusive police officers. Maybe u should insert an L into ur s/n, KLANgurski! Who says Im a he? What if Im a snarky female?

  • and you are more stupid than the average yank is allowed to be

  • Aw, look! The bigot is upset because I guessed where he got his information. He couldnt offer an argument against my statements so he calls ME stupidhow puerile.

  • It will help stop deforestation how? Where'd the cardboard come from? Reduce carbon emissions? Does Al Gore still barbeque? Please - give me a break!

  • The irony is that although the box costs 6 dollars to make it will likely be sold at 30+ dollars. Thats capitalism for you

  • Dont be so sceptical.

If they will try to sell it for 30 dollars, they will surelly become bankrupt, for Africans surely easily will learn to paint one box black, to put aluminium (from somewhere) on the other and to isolate them by a straw.

If anyone will want to make a many on it, he will have to be prety cheap :).

So thats are the rules of capitalism for You.

And I add, that I like the simplicity of the Idea and keep fingers crossed, that it may somehow improve some lives.

  • great! but, reduce spinal oord injuries? and reduce rape and theft in the forest? LOL

  • I meant land mine risks

  • yup, does not solve the problem by a long shot.

But it is a step in the right direction...

  • i agree. It seemed like they were pushing it a bit with that.
