  • The last 1992 Orion I saw was #9637 at the D.C. Parade in 2005. :-[

  • ITS CRAZY HOW ALL ORIONS SOUND ALIKE AND DIFFERENT AT THE SAME TIME........THIS IS HOW OUR ORION Vs SOUNDED...ONLY HAD 25 Vs AND 5 GREEN HYBRID Vs THAT WAS BARELY USED.....THE GREEN HYBRIDS DIDNT HAVE 6V92 SOUND

  • I wonder why they ain't neveer recorded nunna those Neoplans back in the days. I'm talkin' bout them 9500 models. Those was 1 of my all-time favorite buses back then.

  • Damn I miss these buses

  • i miss the orion V. 9256 out of Utah Transit Authority was my BUS!

  • It's a total shame that WMATA Metro got ride of the 9600's Orion V's, they were only 14 years old when they did and still had a lot of life in them they should have left those engines alone. I totally blame METRO for destroying those buses. The GMC Fishbowls were approx. 30 years old when WMATA retired those buses but the 9600's were retired way to soon. Now in my opinion I do believe that they were the cleanest, strongest, and fastest running buses the heck with that "clean go green crap".

  • @ORIONV9647Yea i never understood that the 9600's buses were repowered with newer series 50 engines and voith transmissions and still got retired.

  • @MAR1NAB5180 Cause they were horrible after repower

  • @Southeastern4204 Wow maybe if they would have kept the 6V92TA engines or rebuilt them some of those buses would probably still be around.

  • @ORIONV9647 they lasted until at least 2008, making them 16 years old. i never got to know them before repower, I really wish I did though

  • I really wonder how come those 1992 Orion V's had to be retired so early in 2009 despite they all had received DD50 and Voith Tranny at their MID-LIVES after 6V92 and Allison HTB-748. I also expected WMATA to spend more budgets on those Orion V's installing LED signs and announcement speakers except security cameras or they just had to upgrade tranny to Allison B400's (5-Auto). Those buses are my number 1 favorites. I truly miss them.

  • @mw5564 Transit systems are retiring many buses that should be run a lot longer then they are.The NYCTA does the some thing.

  • Those engines always seem to have noisy valve lifters. They never adjusted them right.

  • @lafingman40 OURS DID TOO (NFTA-METRO BUFFALO, NY)

  • That is one sweet sounding bus. I Love It! Next to the Flxibles, those Orion Vs are now the classics on the fleet.

  • Hurray! I was wondering if there was any audio of them before they were repowered (and repainted)!

    They sound so great!

  • Yeah im glad i got to record this bus before it got repowered.

  • busses now have no sound this makes me wana go back in the old days...

  • whats da powertrain?

  • Detroit Diesel 6v92 engine/Allison HTB-748 transmission

  • These Sounds 6V-92TA are my favorites on the Orion, it sounds just like Toronto's and Grand Rapids's 1991 Orion Vs.

  • I wanna ride one of these so bad.

  • Marcos, this is one of the most awesome (and historical) recordings from your collection. Thanks for posting this.

What suprises me is that it ticked just like Hampton Roads Transit #903 did when I recorded it 3 years ago.

  • Doe's Hampton Road Transit still have their Flxible Metro's

  • They have a few of from the PenTran (200s) and TRT (700s) Flxibles. Currently, they run on school trippers in Hampton.

  • I wish =they still had this engine on our buses.

  • Ain't gonna happen. They're too "Green" for that now.

  • yup hybrid buses is a whole new ball game

  • Broward County Transit around here were i live has some 2008 Nabi LFW Hybrids the most extreme and boring buses iv'e ever had to ride on no engine sound action no nothing .

  • how long r they?

  • These are model V .501 40 feet long 102 inch wide.

  • I like those buses but I didn't like the new color scheme that they went them.I like the old color scheme.

  • wouldnt it be funny as shit 2 hear those old engines from back n da day on a hybrid bus? LMFAO!!!!!!!!!

  • I think MetrolinerXLZ has a recording of one of them with the Series 50EGR and Voith D-863.but check with him first.

  • @MAR1NAB5180 and s88: Yes I do. I have #9651, which was recorded post-repower. I may have to edit it to keep it within time limits.
