It's a total shame that WMATA Metro got ride of the 9600's Orion V's, they were only 14 years old when they did and still had a lot of life in them they should have left those engines alone. I totally blame METRO for destroying those buses. The GMC Fishbowls were approx. 30 years old when WMATA retired those buses but the 9600's were retired way to soon. Now in my opinion I do believe that they were the cleanest, strongest, and fastest running buses the heck with that "clean go green crap".

I really wonder how come those 1992 Orion V's had to be retired so early in 2009 despite they all had received DD50 and Voith Tranny at their MID-LIVES after 6V92 and Allison HTB-748. I also expected WMATA to spend more budgets on those Orion V's installing LED signs and announcement speakers except security cameras or they just had to upgrade tranny to Allison B400's (5-Auto). Those buses are my number 1 favorites. I truly miss them.

@mw5564 Transit systems are retiring many buses that should be run a lot longer then they are.The NYCTA does the some thing.

Those engines always seem to have noisy valve lifters.  They never adjusted them right.

Doe's Hampton Road Transit still have their Flxible Metro's
