@JaniWarheart Symphonic or not, gothic or not, the bands who are called "symphonic metal" or "gothic metal" seem to use the same template as far as presentation or fashion. Not much difference, really, when you look at or listen to them.
@swans1997 That could really be said about pretty much every single style of music out there. You have a handful, if that, of innovative bands in a short time frame (usually a couple years) and then a lot of bands after them pull have some level of similiarity because they draw influence from them and, at times, numerous other sources. It isn't anything knew and to bitch about it is, well, rather pointless and petty. Enjoy the music or don't. Majority don't claim they're doing anything new anywa
@swans1997 Anyway, for the most part I agree with what you said to Chris2162003. I just don't really see the need or the reason you brought up Nightwish into it, or for that matter had to mention Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride or how so many bands have ripped of DCD and Celtic Frost. There are always going to be those who came before, even for those bands. Not that I'm saying those two bands didn't stand out during their time, they definitely did. But they had influence just like the rest.
@JaniWarheart I just thought i'd do it, to provoke some kind of discussion or debate. Not a question of "need", I WANTED TO. I'll mention or bring up what I want. It's my post. All opinions are welcome. A debate is more interesting than having people come here and idol worshipping your clips, don't you think? Bitching? No, I'm not bitching, I'm just looking for somebody to convince me that I'm wrong.
@swans1997 Ah, right. Well, you know most people on youtube. They toss stuff out because they are bitching and fell they are needed etc etc. Sorry for my jackass assumption you were doing the same. Personally, I like Nightwish, My Dying Bride, and Celtic Frost and other bands. Not really a fan of Paradise Lost though. I just listen to music I like, whether or not it truly is unique. I feel most bands of their own edge to them, whether or not it is unique it is still an edge. A niche.
@JaniWarheart Personally, the "Goth" tag is so confused nowadays, whereas in the eighties, you could tell where the music was at. You had a particular atmosphere and guitar sound, singing style, etc. and with the "Gothic Metal" bands coming up, the confusion is even more so apparent. These bands are often so interchangeable, in look, sound, and presentation, that, I hardly find much difference between Evanuisance or Within. Distinctions, to a degree, but not much.
@swans1997 That is very true. And I can definitely see what you mean with the differences between Evanescence and Within Temptations. The distinctions between those two particular bands are getting even smaller. I don't really like Evanescense at all and have a hard time finding any enjoyment out of Within Temptation after the Silent Force ablum myself. I think the biggest shame with the "Goth" or "Gothic" tags is that so few people know the roots of the term. Either from the 1800's or the 80's.
@SousukeKassimSagara I guess that's what they need in their lives at the moment. They want to feel accepted, validated, "loved", but a clique will form it's own barriers to entry or subdivisions, and it's an individual(non-conformist) who will break past all the barriers and that puts an end to exclusivity. Unfortunately, most of us conform in one way or another whether it be to an economic system, a religion/cult or a type of crowd, and fear is at the root of this.
fail! im guessing this idiot prefers to have cool, nice song, great upload but yea thats how everything should be aswell. nothing unique? the music is but the uploader way fom it!bye
@chris2162003 Show me a really unique or creative goth or goth oriented band today. None of this Night Wish or Paradise Lost stuff, wouldn't have happned with out bands lke Celtic Frost or Dead Can Dance, which are two that have been ripped off endlessly by loads in the goth or goth metal, scenes today. My Dying Bride wasn't even around when I was listening to DCD or Frost back in the eighties, now there are tons of bands doing the same shit.
Thanks ! this is a really great video. I really enjoy watching because it feels right. The music is perfect for the movements. I really like goth babes and this video brings out the best of them.
DeathRock was a different sub-culture; however, DeathRock is linked to the Goth subculture as well. No-one is claiming everyone in the video to be goth. Labeling someone by fashion is very stereotypical. Rather if the people in the video are fans of DeathRock or Goth, who knows. A Goth is simply a fan of Goth-Rock or Death-Rock.
@Forestmountains1 Agreed. I don't even follow labels. Back in the early eighties 1982-83. I remember the name Death Rock, but the Goth label I never heard proper until the late eighties, around 1986-1987. Doesn't matter to me either, what label it is as long as the tunes are good.
@Forestmountains1 Still, I can't get into some of these so-called "goth" bands coming up these days who seem so derivative of each other and add nothing much new in look or sound. mostly that psuedo classical crap with some chick who thinks she's Maria Callas or something. ZZZZZZZZ

"Take the bull by the horns, try my luck once more, to make things right, again" wow. Know what? I can't even express what I feel everytime I hear this song. You have to have a lot of courage to "take the bull by the horns", and somehow, in some way. this boosts my courage up!
That is regretable battechno, it's a great song, so sad to be wasted on April. However, if you are still pineing after April, you will find the aformentioned distasteful. But if you can get past your pseudo dependance upon a woman who no longer desires you, will within an instance change the this song into an autonamous pledge towards yourself and your future.
Just don't let this experience with Aplril, deny your love for the female form and everything will be ok.
Agreed, considering all kinds of sounds are identified with the "goth" tag, nowadays, and a lot of the bands today identified with "goth" look and sound nothing like it.
Goth is a lifestyle, and a fashion. But you cant tell about a music if its goth or not. There is a music called Gothic metal, but its not the same as Goth. Goth people listen to many kind of music..ebm, metal, maybe even rock, all sort of ambient, industrial aggrotech (or call it cybergoth if you want though cyber goth is a fashion too) alternative, experimental, speedcore terrorcore..and many more..I think you can hardly define what music sounds "goth".
@EarthFireWaterAirSou , agreed, I think the problem with it or mine in particular, is that people try to make the set definition on what it is, and so called "Goth Metal" never existed in the 80's. Goths didn't even want to be associated with Metal. For me, "Goth Metal" or the sound, started with the 1987 album, Into The Pandemonium by Celtic Frost. Tracks like Rex Irae, Triestesses De La Lune, set "Goth Metal" in motion, in my opinion.
@EarthFireWaterAirSou My problem is not Goth itself, I listen to it and went to the clubs back in the 80's. My problem is the trends and the cliches and anything dark sounding has the "Goth" label applied to it. You're younger than me, it was a different scene and sound back in the eighties.Bands like Evanescence and Nightwish weren't even around.
@EarthFireWaterAirSou Cyber Goth, strikes me as another techno or rave culture thing to me, and the fashion just looks like a sort of dark "New Wave" offshoot. I don't even see much where the "Goth" comes in. They couldn't think of how to label it I guess.
Oh, sorry, you are too young to apprechiate goth....well, take your 2000's non-goth ass to Brittany Spears...
Do you realise that Goth, means rejection of mainstream culture.....it is as relavent as today as the 60's.....are you aware that emo culture is an evolution of goth culture...having the same ideals.
@Monad01 Actually if you take time to study it Emo is only similar to Goth to those who are ignorant. Emo and Goth have two completely separate evolutions. Yes they can both be traced back to punk and yes today Emo does have a lifestyle that has borrowed many elements from the Goth one, mainly fashion. But I'd like to see an alternative group that hasn't borrowed from the Gothic Fashion. Goth is a point of view, Emo is a silly fad. I mean point me to a 40 year old Emo? There aren't any.
@Gloomshadow1 ha ha it's just something i found out when someone once recommended them to me. always curious to know what's out there. for better or worse.
@WEJIRC@WEJIRC Music wise and "scene" wise, things have gotten really anal since when I was a teenager in the 80's, it seems. Now, you have to be able to properly identify labels for bands in order for someone to be able to see if they'd fit in or not.
That has always been around to an extent, but today it's really ridiculous. I never gave a shit about that, to me, Bauhaus was as good to listen to as much as Mahavishnu Orchestra. Labels, and fashion rules, take all the fun out of music listening. Metal Core, Melodic Death Metal, Industrial Goth Metal, still, it's Metal innit?
Thanks for the nice compliment, but I had nothing to do with making it. I just found a nice looking clip to download and thought I'd share it. Turned out here was one or two before me with the same clip ha ha, but more the merrier.
Little else we can cherish, little else is not enough A glimpse, a glimpse of heaven How can I see the stars? As all others do, as all others do As all others do , as all others do I give it one more try, I give it all I can I won't fail once more Take the bull by the horns Try my luck once more To make things right Again
Love Xymox. The only band that I have almost every album and b-side. God! I want to move to Europe. Xymox won't play in the US anymore. Or at least tour in the US. That and the US Goth scene is a joke!
Yeah, over here we've got oh, Evanuisance and in Europe bands like Nightwish and Within Temptation. Both sides of the pond look pretty iffy as far as "goth rock" goes. for me.
So true oramikleepunk I totally agree with you because no one can be goth if they don't listen to elements of post punk, Darkwave, deathrock, or Ethereal Wave :)
Goths wanna find a distintion far far away from the mainstream. They don't fit in, so they make their own excellentness. Yes they fit in to the goth scene, which is a culture all by itself, if Americans don't emulate Euopean gothic cuture so perfectly, maybe they have formed their own culture..vive la différence!

Agreed, considering all kinds of sounds are identified with the "goth" tag, nowadays, and a lot of the bands today identified with "goth" look and sound nothing like it.
swans1997 2 years ago
@swans1997
EarthFireWaterAirSou 1 year ago
@EarthFireWaterAirSou , agreed, I think the problem with it or mine in particular, is that people try to make the set definition on what it is, and so called "Goth Metal" never existed in the 80's. Goths didn't even want to be associated with Metal. For me, "Goth Metal" or the sound, started with the 1987 album, Into The Pandemonium by Celtic Frost. Tracks like Rex Irae, Triestesses De La Lune, set "Goth Metal" in motion, in my opinion.
swans1997 1 year ago
@EarthFireWaterAirSou My problem is not Goth itself, I listen to it and went to the clubs back in the 80's. My problem is the trends and the cliches and anything dark sounding has the "Goth" label applied to it. You're younger than me, it was a different scene and sound back in the eighties.Bands like Evanescence and Nightwish weren't even around.

@swans1997 true my friend,it is not just "crying"for our young days,it is all true!!!
MrDark89er 1 year ago
@EarthFireWaterAirSou Cyber Goth, strikes me as another techno or rave culture thing to me, and the fashion just looks like a sort of dark "New Wave" offshoot. I don't even see much where the "Goth" comes in. They couldn't think of how to label it I guess.

Well stop wasting anymore of your (and our) precious time and go back to The Cure vids (great as they are).
Monad01 2 years ago
Oh, sorry, you are too young to apprechiate goth....well, take your 2000's non-goth ass to Brittany Spears...
Do you realise that Goth, means rejection of mainstream culture.....it is as relavent as today as the 60's.....are you aware that emo culture is an evolution of goth culture...having the same ideals.
Tits...or ...GTFO
Monad01 2 years ago
Goth is a trend in itself you know. Just look at this video, ha ha.
swans1997 2 years ago
@Monad01 Actually if you take time to study it Emo is only similar to Goth to those who are ignorant. Emo and Goth have two completely separate evolutions. Yes they can both be traced back to punk and yes today Emo does have a lifestyle that has borrowed many elements from the Goth one, mainly fashion. But I'd like to see an alternative group that hasn't borrowed from the Gothic Fashion. Goth is a point of view, Emo is a silly fad. I mean point me to a 40 year old Emo? There aren't any.

@WEJIRC ,Emo is a silly fad. I mean point me to a 40 year old Emo?
HA HA I'd say the person is in some sad shape, baby.
swans1997 1 year ago
@swans1997 Emo isnt old enough ..they will have 40 year old Emos one day though I bet ah aha

@Gloomshadow1 "Misery Business" for the mid-life crisis.
swans1997 1 year ago
@swans1997 whats that mean?
Gloomshadow1 1 year ago
@Gloomshadow1 I was making a reference to that Paramore tune "Misery Business" in response to your crack about 40 yr. old Emos.
swans1997 1 year ago
@swans1997 oh ok..I dont know anything "Emo"..Im a 40 year old Goth..they still have plenty of us at the club I go to.. ha ha
Gloomshadow1 1 year ago 6
@Gloomshadow1 ha ha it's just something i found out when someone once recommended them to me. always curious to know what's out there. for better or worse.
swans1997 1 year ago
@WEJIRC @WEJIRC Music wise and "scene" wise, things have gotten really anal since when I was a teenager in the 80's, it seems. Now, you have to be able to properly identify labels for bands in order for someone to be able to see if they'd fit in or not.
swans1997 1 year ago
That has always been around to an extent, but today it's really ridiculous. I never gave a shit about that, to me, Bauhaus was as good to listen to as much as Mahavishnu Orchestra. Labels, and fashion rules, take all the fun out of music listening. Metal Core, Melodic Death Metal, Industrial Goth Metal, still, it's Metal innit?

What scope is there left? Where is the hope then?
I've heard it all before when life is measured
A slow and tame despair is inside all of us
Your passionate old dreams sometimes you cry for
I give it one more try, I give it all I can
I never wanted more, I give it all I have
I give it one more shot to make things right
untoashes777 2 years ago
I 'm anxious and distraught for the last few days
Now there's nothing of the sort that makes it all right
This moment I am compelled to go off the deep end
I clutch at every straw, my heart is sinking
I give it one more try, I give it all I can
I never wanted more, I give it one more shot
I give it all I have to make things right

Love Xymox. The only band that I have almost every album and b-side. God! I want to move to Europe. Xymox won't play in the US anymore. Or at least tour in the US. That and the US Goth scene is a joke!
grimsdyke 2 years ago
Yeah, over here we've got oh, Evanuisance and in Europe bands like Nightwish and Within Temptation. Both sides of the pond look pretty iffy as far as "goth rock" goes. for me.
swans1997 2 years ago
Make that goth associated bands.
swans1997 2 years ago
I agree...the American goths only want to look cool and listen to that ibm stuff. The new stuff don't sound post punk or darkwave.
oramikleepunk 2 years ago
IBM? Aren't they into computers and stuff?
swans1997 2 years ago
Sorry,I mean EBM,industrial,or neo-folk.What do this stuff have to do with post punk or darkwave?
oramikleepunk 2 years ago
Who gives a fuck, it's an excellent song, eh.
Monad01 2 years ago
Na, I think that what you are using to convey your message and excellent vid is orange and banana compatible computers.
Monad01 2 years ago
So true oramikleepunk I totally agree with you because no one can be goth if they don't listen to elements of post punk, Darkwave, deathrock, or Ethereal Wave :)
Forestmountains1 2 years ago
Goths wanna find a distintion far far away from the mainstream. They don't fit in, so they make their own excellentness. Yes they fit in to the goth scene, which is a culture all by itself, if Americans don't emulate Euopean gothic cuture so perfectly, maybe they have formed their own culture..vive la différence!
