I joined the National Guard on Tuesday, the 375th birthday of the guard. I was sworn in by the Adjutant General of New York State. I'm only 17 and I will pray that one day I get to fight. But for now I have to finish high school then go to college. But for all other soldiers past, present and future, God bless :)

Plus the state militia was disbanded over 150 years ago after the civil war that was the last war where each state had a standing militia it was then transformed into part of the union army and given the title of reserves and then after world war II it was officially known as the national guard. each state has at least a national guard unit and reserves and maybe a active duty regular army unit.

The Guard, as you said, is part of the Federal Government. The militia were originally made to stand apart from the Government, kind of like a non-government civilian military(which means they get no funding, weapons, vehicles, etc). The militia are very much real, they just don't advertise themselves.

@hayleysmom06 I don't know where you got the idea, but most of the deployed units are not National Guard. Only about 14% of all deployed soldiers are Reserves/Guard. The thing with the Guard is you get deployed not just for 14 months, but rather about 2+ years(on average). The one weekend a month and two weeks a year promise is for mainly drill guard, military sponsored events, or working at your MOS, whatever that may be.
Also, cussing is pretty futile over the interwebs.
@demonsyntax Pretty sure I recieved my information from the National Guard. Almost every National Guard unit from Illinois were deployed at the same time to Iraq or Afghanistan. My husband was deployed for 12 month to Afghanistan and he did the drill thing once a month and the two weeks out of the year.. His same unit is getting ready to deploy again in 2012..

They hold a national record for most IED found and destroyed. with 0 deaths. 113 men went over and 113 came back. My cousin was one of them.

I joined the National Guard on Tuesday, the 375th birthday of the guard. I was sworn in by the Adjutant General of New York State. I'm only 17 and I will pray that one day I get to fight. But for now I have to finish high school then go to college. But for all other soldiers past, present and future, God bless :)

I love 3 doors down. Best band ever. I thought about joining the coast guard if I could not find anything else to do, but I got accepted into law school so I am gonna do that. I still support our troops though. Alot of my friends are in the military and I think about them often.

I love this song but some of those comments are a bit strange. Why should the whole world like a patriotic song about the USA? For those who haven't noticed it yet: There are people from other countries out there too! Do you really think you're the only ones on this planet???

@LeAnschie Well if you haven't noticed this isn't a patriotic song about the world it's about the US if you don't like it you shouldn't watch especially if you don't like the comments we are not asking the whole world to like our patriotic songs you should watch your own. to support your own troops. i don't understand how you think from this video we are being prideful and saying we are number one it's showing support for our troops and giving them the thanks they need and not to please theworld

@ElderPerk I think you got that wrong: I *do* like that song, even if I'm not american and I think it's a good thing for US-citizens to support their troops. I was just referring to some comments below, like: "I can't understand how some people can dislike a patriotic song about *our* country". That's a stupid comment because the person who wrote it seems to think that there are only Americans out there and therefore everyone on youtube will automatically support this video.

you are describing mercernaires private military groups they are not militia they are hired thugs they are the ones that always get the military into trouble by shooting civilians there is NO militia. You really have no idea what your talking about The ARMY is the federal Military and the Guard has taken the place of the militia any civil military force in the united states is a private contractor group.

@Grunt922 Well for one the we don't have militamen anymore they are called the national guard. Plus the state militia was disbanded over 150 years ago after the civil war that was the last war where each state had a standing militia it was then transformed into part of the union army and given the title of reserves and then after world war II it was officially known as the national guard. each state has at least a national guard unit and reserves and maybe a active duty regular army unit.

@ElderPerk lol you shouldnt have gone there, when im on leave i train with militias, and im a part of the indiana state militia. the national guard is NOT the militia because it is a federal military force like the army. i know militiamen in michigan, oklahoma, california, kentucky, and so on. the national guard can NOT be the militia according to the 2nd amendment because our founding fathers were fighting a state militia. do you also think guns are outdated as well?

@ElderPerk you believe what you want, but im army, and the national guard is not the militia. it CANT be the militia because it works for the government. you are the federal militia, we are the civilian militia.

@Grunt922 What you say is really the truth. I have met and talked to some of the Washington State Militia before. They are an actual group. They weren't replaced by the National Guard. The Guard, as you said, is part of the Federal Government. The militia were originally made to stand apart from the Government, kind of like a non-government civilian military(which means they get no funding, weapons, vehicles, etc). The militia are very much real, they just don't advertise themselves.

@Grunt922 maybe because most of the troops that are deployed are National Guard you uneducated asshole, ask my husband, he was in the national guard. One weekend a month two weeks out of the year my ass.. Ask his youngest daughter how it was meeting her father for the first time.. If you have nothing nice to say about the people who fight for your freedom then shut the fuck up.. just saying.. At least 3 Doors Down supports the National Guard unlike others...

@hayleysmom06 I don't know where you got the idea, but most of the deployed units are not National Guard. Only about 14% of all deployed soldiers are Reserves/Guard. The thing with the Guard is you get deployed not just for 14 months, but rather about 2+ years(on average). The one weekend a month and two weeks a year promise is for mainly drill guard, military sponsored events, or working at your MOS, whatever that may be.
Also, cussing is pretty futile over the interwebs.

@demonsyntax Pretty sure I recieved my information from the National Guard. Almost every National Guard unit from Illinois were deployed at the same time to Iraq or Afghanistan. My husband was deployed for 12 month to Afghanistan and he did the drill thing once a month and the two weeks out of the year.. His same unit is getting ready to deploy again in 2012..

@ElderPerk Um 21B Combat Engineer. My brother and I should be getting deployed. i hope i get to go. our unit just got back last year from there second deployment. They hold a national record for most IED found and destroyed. with 0 deaths. 113 men went over and 113 came back. My cousin was one of them.

Just remember that gun confiscation and taking Americans to camps is not allowed under the constitution. The National Guard confiscated guns from Americans during Katrina violating the U.S. constitution.

People tend to be somewhat psychotic after something so traumatizing such as a massive Hurricane destroying everything they once knew and loved. They had too many people shooting up the place trying to loot everything after wards, they were just trying to make it a safer environment for the clean up crews and while they evacuated stranded civilians. @TheNickrock72 Yes we all know it is propaganda thank you for pointing out the obvious. it is no different then companies advertising or using "propaganda" to forward there product so you obviously have listened to corporate "propagana" and bought some companies product so you can't call people sheep when you obvioulsy are one yourself.
