  • Thanks! You made it clear to me! p.s. an electromagnet can only become one when elecricity passes through it. THUMBS UP!

  • Can It Be And Metal Wire At All?

  • Where did you get the Horshoe Magnet? Does anyone know where I can get one?

  • nothing special..

  • this song is on my electronic piano :)

  • 240p we meet again.

  • I have a technical question for you. If I were to create a tesla coil would the lightning created be attracted to or repeled from neodymium magnets? Say for an example if concetrations of neodymium magnets were placed vertically in walls as tall as the lightning is long in three areas that would form a triangle concept.

  • I have a question - if you made a hollow-ball shaped magnet and put another, tinier magnet inside so they repel each other, would the small magnet inside "hang" in air?

  • its nice but not useful i want 2 make a magnet hand

  • okei.. i did this at school.. but I only wrapped one Turn on the Iron Nail... then when i put each end of the wire pn each end onf the battery... it turned so Hot i couldnt even Hold it!... so.. My question is.. why this happened? and BTW, i didnt get any magnet out of the Iron Nail!

  • @graffsk8er u actually had a short circuit!

  • @nilanjana96 oh.. that explains alot! haha

  • i have perpetual motion . It is a secret long forgot. take a U-bolt wrap some wire around both legs of it . have a flat piece of steel to put across the two ends as a keeper .one single pulse of a battery and the device starts an electron flow and becomes permanently energized holding the flat bar in place . before you throw this down try it . with enuff force you can break the flatbar and it stops the electron flow .it will hold perpetually until you break the hold of the bar then it turn off.

  • Is this the Whywontgodhealamputees guy?!?!?

    /watch?v=zDHJ4ztnldQ

    SAME GUY?!?

  • compus needle:.... ahhh

    Wire: hi

    battery: shakes wires lead

    needle HUH!! OH MY

Wire: this needles gots the hots?..... For me?

    Battery NO ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Lol wtf??? my Yamaha piano has that song.. What the shit man... xD

  • What happens if you take a permanent magnet and run electricity through it?

  • hey brian the scientist,

i admire your work for the cwba, the children without a bank account.

we really appreciate your 1 million dollars you donated. we are gonna buy a million bank accounts and give it to children who dont have one.

again. thank you brian the scientist.

  • why did we need to watch it in slo mo

  • marshal brain you do relise that the more coils that over lap each other the weaker it will be so your wrong that it would be stronger that with less coils.

  • you mean copper wire or what is the best wire gold wire platnium this interests me greatly for future levitation work.

  • can you charge a battery with a magnet? O_O unlimited energy

  • @BeAsTm0aD no

  • @BeAsTm0aD remember that energy is lost by means of heat. Sorry, no perpetual motion machine yet :).

  • hey in my school earlier i pressed a lesson button on the keyboard and that exact tune was playing =D good vid mate subscribed liked and commented :)

  • @TheBadboyhouse i have the same tune on my yamaha keyboard too lol

  • pure magic!!!

  • So im assuming that a magnet works because the electrons are spinning around the ferrite material?

  • cucumber boat wire

  • try to add more batterys then count the staples, then try wrap it around the object 200 times then count the staples, then try to wrap it around 300 times then try 400 times and count the staples, FUCK THAT SOOO BORING

  • Bill nye the science guy is funny and better

  • Bill nye Is better......

  • thank you for telling me how to do my homework

  • Lol when I watched this in my science lesson it was so cheesy and me and my friends were just laughing lol it helped me a lot though :)

  • Can u tell me how to make a permanent magnet?

  • does it consumes the battery or the battery still remains virgin after repeting this experiment again and again ?

  • big deal... -.-

  • Thanks maybe I can do this for my science project

  • is it me or did he say the same fucking thing over and over!!! can you thumbs up!!!

  • I shocked myself with my battery. I felt it. Just felt like static electricity.

  • you gotta make sure that the screw is ferromagnetic, otherwise the bitch don't work.

  • a lot of videos on youtube say you need insulated wire, why is that?

  • insulated copper works better and if you wrap it side by side not stacking it like he does it works better to.

  • It is burning my finger wen I press it with the battery ,It is not working!!!

  • NOW i know why the westerners are more developped than Arabs !! but don't worry we'll move sooner incha allah...

  • I wonder what would happen if you had electromagnets hooked up to a wind turbine to 1. help speed it up and 2. keep it going when there's not much wind. Obviously it would only work if the spinning of the mill creates more power than activating the electromagnets every time a blade passes by.

  • use condom! please

  • woooooot, this is amazing. its almost like electricity is USEFUL!!!!!!

  • FUCKIN' MAGNETS, HOW DO THEY WORK?

  • @TheHunty2010 it all has to do with quantum mechanics and the spin of subatomic particles.. pretty kool shit =D

  • Let's watch that again in slow motion. See, you notice no difference then regular motion!

  • lol that intro song is from a yamaha keyboard

  • magnetism is created by north and south monopoles moving in opposite directions. This movement of monopoles is what creates a dipole. You can use this dipole to separate these monopoles into concentrated streams, and now you have electricity, recombine these monopoles (electricity) and you get a magnetic field.

  • you sound familiar, did you ever do a series on the bible being a lie, which it is? if you didnt you sound like the dude, just curious.

  • Does the metal used to coil the wire around mater? Does it have to be steel / iron? What if I use a metal such as nickle, which has a lower electronic resistance? Would nickle work? Would it work better because it has a lower resistance?

  • @TruthinessDotCom The strength of the magnetism is in direct relation to the voltage applied. You could use less conductive things like Nickel, but apply more power from a bigger battery and net the same results.

  • yur awesome!

  • Doesn't the wire need to be coated in enamel to prevent the wire from creating a direct short circuit?

  • @HollandProjects

thats what i thought when i saw anathor video with this kind off wire but it is insulted the insulation just looks like copper wire

  • yes.... good refresher course... but there's more....

  • If Magnet can create electricity in a coil of wire, so can electricity in a coil create magnet in the metal which can be attracted...

Am i right guys...may i get thumbs up!

  • Magnetism and electricity are the same force, a.k.a electromagnetism, which is one of the four forces in the universe. Electricity does not really create magnetism, nor vice versa.

  • @man13preet No, because the coil of wire is copper, as it is one of the best conducters of both heat and electricity. So it doesn't become magnetised as such.

  • @TheNickFlurry Thats actually incorrect. The copper wire will have a magnetic field when a voltage is applied to it even without coiling it.

  • @mboughan1 Ahh :) you learn something new everyday :D

  • who are u and what did u do with bill nye?

  • wd40 is magnetic i discovered this and will put it on yourtube. put a can of wd40 near a magnets and the magnet will spin

  • Why doesn't it just create a short in the circuit? I would think it would be moving the electrons as fast as it could from the Negative to the Positive lead, cause friction on the wire, making it really hot.?

  • the wire warms up and what you say is true, the batteries will drain alot faster but it will still work as an electromagnet

  • Comment removed

  • Lite, I mean light, is not electricity. They are both energy, but in different forms. So, you are right, light does not make magnets, electricity does.

  • thank you i looked at a couple other videos and still had some trouble because electricity and magnetism is a very abstract concept but your explanation of 'tube of magnetism' really explained it to me well. thanks

  • very cool video,sir!that was a good explination :D

  • no you dumb mother fuckers you wont get shocked even if you use the power mains (if done properly). (altho the puny copper wire would melt) the electricity 'prefers' to take the easiest medium to travel through. Altho carbon is a good conductor (we are essentially made of water and carbon) since 1st the copper is in between the outlet of the power and the fingers, and the copper is a better conductor, the electricity will travel along the wire.

  • Actually there is a critical part that you forgot. Electricity takes the path of least resistance to ground. If you are using an uninsulated wire and the path of the wire doesn't lead to ground it's not the path of least resistance. Under most circumstances you lead to ground and are the path of least resistance. So sticking an uninsulated piece of wire into the wall outlet would likely lead to you getting hit with 110v. Also it's the water and salts in your body that are the good conductors.

  • *shame face* right you are sir.

  • 0.02 amps is required to kill a person instantly, more than 1 wont kill you; but shock you so badly you wont die straight away.

  • y is he not getting shocked? if u did this whit a car batter whoud u get shocked?

  • I don't know electricity that well but i'm pretty sure a car battery, just like these little batteries, does not have enough volts to push a current through us. We don't conduct electricity too well, we have a high resistance. For example, Take a 9 volt battery (square one) and put your finger across the 2 circles. It won't do anything. Then put your tongue across them and it will give you a little tickle. I guess dry skin has more resistance then our saliva soaked tongue. Dont lick car batterys

  • for a nerd

    your pretty stupid

  • ur gay

  • I love all your videos. I`ve tried them with my students and they all loved them. Thank you for your videos!!

  • cool video man

  • so nice!

i'd tried it! and it works!

  • What if instead of a battery I just simply connected to the wall outlet?.

  • lol is that a serious question or a joke?

  • :) This young indian male approached the Chief & asked for one of his daughters for mate. Chief told him to go in the wilderness & practice sex with holes in trees, when ready, come back & ask Chief again. The young indian went to wildernes for few weeks then come back to Chief & said: "I'm ready". Chief gave him his youngest daughter. Young indian had her bent over & beat her with a stick. Chief ask: "What are you doing?". Indian said: "I'm checking for wasps in hole".

  • Do not do that, there are enough volts and not enough resistance to cancel out the AMPS, it's very dangerous. You could die.

  • It's the current what kills, not the voltage. One time, I told this guy I didn't like much to hold a screw driver (with wood handle) to the wire that came straight from the coil.

While he was holding it as I told him, I went inside and turned the key. Hahahahuaaaaaaaaaaa the Dude responding yelling. It shocked me It shocked me!!!!!.

I told him I didn't know that would happen. Boy did I laugh my ass off?!.

  • From my understanding, current is measured in Amperage. That is, how well and effectively the flow of electricity is actually traveling through the circuits or conduits. Volts simply measure how much electricity there is, and amps can be deduced by figuring out how much resistance is in whatever it is that the electricity is traveling through, the ohms.

    I think that's right, but I'm no electrician. =P

  • 5-10A could probably kill youit should also be noted that this current flowing through your body wont kill you instantaneously. the higher the current flowing through your body the less time it would take to kill you

  • 5-10 amperes would fucking fry you dude. It only takes about 200+ mili-amps to drop an adult.

  • i did this and my battery just turned SO hot and he magnet didnt even work it just became HOT

  • beacuse the electrons go from battery back to the battery.... how stupid you are?

  • You failed to mention that what looks like uninsolated wire in this video you probably salvaged from a disgarded electrical coil, which means it is insolated with a film, otherwise the currnet would take the path of least resistance and not travel throught the coil but just go straight to the positive and not create overlapping elecriical fields and only generate the electrical field of a single wire shorting to ground.

  • i did this in science the other day it was so funny

  • good

    i rated your video

  • NO tardo unless your arm is pure iron

  • If you wrap the wire around your hand or arm, would you be able to become a human magnet?

  • ya you would u wood also get 3rd degree burns lol sweet.....

  • nope

  • the screw's sort of turns hot after a while

  • oooo highg voltage keep out!!!!

  • Ummm...it's a bolt not a screw. Now I'm lost.

  • uuuuuuu big deal i learn that for about 3 months ago in phisics

  • and you didnt take english did u

  • Cool- Michael Frraday was excluded from the pompous Science Clubs but was brillent- suggest YT search "quantum physics" top link should be "The Double Slit Experiment" Dr. Quantum is animation and although it seems cartoonish it comes from quantum physics- seems electrons have "intellegence" like your vid and hope you check out Dr. Quantum

  • you probably should have explained that you need to use magnet wire for the electro magnet. as in, wire with insulation around it, so then theres no short circutting.

  • how this experiment works

  • thnx im doin this for 4th grade project or ont

  • so am i i need help

  • i'm gonna try it !

  • REALY thanks man without u i was going to take 0/40 in exams :) i was thinking that i have to put 2 wires :P i make it man u are cool thanks thanks thanks this helped me to make telegraph :D:D

  • Witch!!!!!!!!

  • burn the witch lol.

  • Pretty good experiment. What would happen if you used a hollow steel tube and put a paperclip down the middle? How do you alternate the current from positive to negative (I want to build my own linear accelerator. I know most of them are now phase generated (like Stanfords Linac-can accelerate electrons to 20MeV), but it would be sweet to be able to build a little thing and shoot bb's a couple miles).

  • you can change the Polarity of the magnet by simply turning the battery the other way so the flow of electrons changes, the electrons flow Negitive to positive so if you put your hand into a fist and hold your arm out straight stick your thumb out as far as it will go 90degrees and use your thumb to point in the direction of flow twist your wrist down and that is the way the electro magnetic field is flowing around the wire i hope this info helps you

  • manzilla86 using the term "how do i alternate the flow" is incorrect because that would be saying how do i make ac (alernating current). And also "conventional flow" is + to - but actually electricity flows - to + again i hope this helps

  • isnt that a short circuit? if i want to do it with 12volt then how should i do it?

  • what a cool vid. i tryied but i VERY COOOL!!!

  • what a cool vid. i tryied but i VERY COOOL!!!

  • That wasw really helpful for homeschooling parents. Thanks!!

  • i have already done this experiment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!so has my brother

  • how powerful is it??

  • a lot

  • Actually the type of wire you need is called magnet wire. it is a copper wire coted in enamel. and you can do it with any piece of metal.

  • good vid

  • the screw needs to be iron and the wire needs to be copper wire which is expensive

  • it makes electro magnet and it realy work

  • this did not work at all for me, i did the exact thing as him, i used wire just like his at first and rapped it around so many times then i tryed speaker wire and everything, it just doesnt work at all

  • i tried doin this and it dint work.

  • i dont get how conductors with electricity in em can create a magnetic fild? and what is a magnetic fild made up of anyway?

  • how do u make small magnet.very small magnets

  • how come a normal piece of magnet can creates sucktion without applying electric to it? does it have internal electric or something?

  • electricity really has to do with the flow of electrons, now when electrons are flowing all willy-nilly its just a regular piece of metal, but when they are flowing in synchrony they create an electric charge making a magnet, an "always" magnet has its electrons permenently in sync so it always is a magnet, an electro-magnet puts the electrons in sync while electricity is flowing through it, after you disconnect the energy supply, most of the electrons go back how they were

  • doesn't it burn when you put the two ends or a same wire on a same battery? when i tried it, the bolt started to grow hot and felt like it was going to burn

  • lol what did you use a car battery ?

  • nice...good stuff..pretty informative

  • thank you very much

    today i learned alot .

  • Thanks a lot.

  • Lol I like how it's not said 'don't try this unsupervised kids!' Cause you know it's not like it's dangerous to be messing with batteries!

Or the fact you learn about Electromagnetism from Magic School Bus :x The show pwns you all.

  • are you the guy from hows stuff works website?

your articles are great thanx for NOT saying that the electric field is in the direction of the protons witch is a goddamn LIE

    keep up the good work

  • that was great -

Thanks for posting that people really need to learn more about magnetism - its everywhere and its the reason this planet is inhabitable...

  • anal

  • omg omg omg, what would happen if i hooked about 7 cylinder "D" batteries to a screw??? would everything fly at it from around the room? that would be an interesting sight for my mum.

  • Your Mom, Your Mom, Your Mom, Your Mom, Your Mom, Your Mom, Your Mom, Your Mom, Your Mom, Your Mom, Your Mom, Your Mom, Your Mom, Your Mom, Your Mom, Your Mom, Your Mom, Your Mom, Your Mom, Your Mom, Your Mom, Your Mom, Your Mom, Your Mom, Your Mom, Your Mom, Your Mom, Your Mom...

  • Will a magnet still work when taken far out in space in vacuum and distant from any celestial bodies?

  • quit being a jerk

    leave your comments to yourself

  • sure

  • it is wonderful to share your noggin

  • ai am ritardead

  • fucking sad, im marshall brain and im retarded duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhh

  • i tried this when i was young cause i didnt think it would work. i later became an electronics technician. the end

  • it explains nothing if u want to realy try to understand this u must go to subatomic level

  • Cool stuff, well explained, keep them vids coming

  • thats good. but i need the opposite in my science fair project. how to do that but with the opposite i dont want it to attract the objects i want to like do the opposite the 2 magnets push eachother out?
