good to know the basics - I've got some more advice on my site here - amyclarkefilms - sorry for the cold posting but no idea how to advertise a site, im new to blogging.
If you want steady shots buy a camera stabilizer, I've been using a Cam Caddie Scorpion and the shots I've taken look so smooth. It only cost me about $35.
can you use a real police department in your film and have actors act as real police for that police department or would you need a permit first? same for a public high school, can you use a real public high school and display their logo and have actors act as students or would you need a permit?
@LewiNkz haha I really appreciate these comments.. but Brad Pitt is all mammal, and I'm just a little squirrel. In other words, I'm not that good-looking haha.
@iStick haha but ur funny as hell =DDD.. btw since u are so good at filmmaking and stuff cant u take a look at my vid @mah channel and say what you think? i used alot time on the color correction and the slowmotion so pleeaseee do that if u want :].. (Antigravity its called)
I am also in a Broadcasting Production class, and these tips match perfectly with what we have been learning! haha I try to use them in my short films/productions... Nice Video! Also, If you do another one of these videos, I think another helpful tip for people to know is what a JumpCut is, and how not to break continuity! Great Videos-Subbed (:
@iStick Any idea of how to adjust the contrast and brightness of a shoot? I'm thinking of directing a High School movie based on a spare-time screen play, and I need advice on how to make a film similar to "The Crazies" in the darkness and pace. My only problems are finding the Actors... And a decent enough low-price camera...
@E5CAPEGOAT For actors I would ask friends and family, as they are already well aware of you and closer to you than someone from an acting agency would be. Of course their talent might not be as great, but you could just do more takes until they get it right as well. :)
As for cameras, there are getting to be a lot of hard drive camcorders that record great quality and aren't that expensive. And brightness and contrast can be adjusted very nicely in most video editing programs. :)

Head whip - Whip and twist your head around as quick as possible while changing camera views. Makes it appear that you're not the only one watching the video.
I made a lilttle movie for school and would appreciate if some people would check it out and give their opinion + the more views i get the better my grade
made a short movie for school (2min) and I need to get as much views as possible, the more views the higher the grade and if you have any constructive critisism on how I can improve please do click my name to check it out
The thing is: With some of the projects I do, random movement like the one seen w/o a tripod is actually better for the kind of shot I do, while other shots are better with a tri-pod, so sometimes I switch things up with freehand or not.
hey man, I love the video. I'm a short film maker myself, and love watching other people help amateurs at starting how to make their own home movies. Great job. Also, I was wondering what editing system (program) you use for your videos. I use a earlier version of FCP (Final Cut Pro 5.0.4).
Doing a video project with my English class - a trailer for the Steinbeck novel 'The Pearl'. They are loving it and really enjoyed your video. It helped them learn about camera angles and the use of tripods etc - absolutely brilliant. Many thanks for putting it out there!
Hi, I'm Jose and I'm from Spain. I saw your video and I liked it. But, wich music you used in the "With tripod" images? Is a kind of classical music or similar... What's its name? I would greatly appreciate it... (that sentence was translated by the Google translator, I don't know if it is right... :) )
1.) You can use a tripod, but handheld is better if you're stable with the camera. Steadicam is amazing. If you can't buy one, BUILD one. (It's simple. Weight = Balance = Steady shots on the move)
2.) EDIT EDIT EDIT!!! It is impossible to make anything good in one take (Unless you are Robert Altman or Achmed Imanovic)
3.) LIGHTING!!! Cameras require more light than the human eye does. Unless you're shooting outside in daytime, bring a light source off screen.
amazing video :) learnt basically all of it at college. But its good to be refreshed on whats good and whats not good :) awesome job keep up the good work :)
awesome video. One thing to add: If you want a steadicam feel but can't buy a professional steadicam rig, use your tripod. Placing one hand on the center of one of the legs, and holding the handle/gear with the other hand so you can move the camera at a moments notice. Makes for some great smooth shots but still gives an element of handheld without a lot of the shakiness.
Wonderful video, loved it, thank you so much! You look like a younger Leonardo DiCaprio to me, dunno if you've heard that before, haha. If you ever get the chance another video like this would be wonderful! (:
