Um... no. There is a lot better environment physics added here and a tactics. Yet the cover system is an obvious rip. But get over it. Devs have done this for years. In your sense, gears is just doom with updated graphics and a new cover system.

If you were being shot at, you'd get cover quick too. Gameplay wise, it's needed otherwise you couldn't fight the 3-4 squads you'll be facing at once when the game steps it up.
