  • Greatest drag car ever made.

And if Todd's got one it's the coolest.

  • You know its the baddest musclecar ever when the NHRA took them out of the normal superstock classes and gave them their own the race each other in so the other cars could be competitive in SS/A - the top superstock class!

  • this creation made mopar a legend and gave the little dart immortality in the automotive world.

  • Hemi on the street was brutal, RACE Hemi on the street, it's lights out!! To respond to the comment on the Cammer 427 Ford was going to do.. A lil history.. They brought this to NASCAR President, said they were developing it.. NASCAR said OK.. MoPar said OK, we have a DOHC Hemi, if Ford uses that, we are using this.. NASCAR pulled the plug on both, said no way that DOHC Hemi was running...Do your research before you open your mouth...

  • These were not factory cars!!! ChrCo built '68 Darts/Barracudas, sent them to Hurst, here the Hemi was installed and modified. The cars were black and had no fenders or hood, they were installed at the hurst factory. You "could" buy one, but most went to race teams, a few "common" men got one. Dart's were RO23, Barracuda's were LO23. Race hemi at 600+ horsepower. Acid dipped, lightened, corning side glass, magnesium "K" frame, fiberglass front end/bumpers. There isn't anything that compares...

  • @5773857734 A bit like the Boss 429 Mustangs

  • @5773857734 Actually, anyone could buy one but they were expensive and not advertised at all. The cars were sent out from hurst with the body in primer, and the glass front end in gelcoat. They were not acid dipped at the factory, and had a normal steel K-frame - just with hemi mounts.

A friend of mine has a real factory one. You would not believe how crude it was put together by hurst. It looks like they clearanced the inner fender with a sledgehammer!

  • I can't believe you dumb shits would compare the Veyron to this Dart. It takes 4 turbos on 16 cylinders to propel that french POS. And you have to drop $1.4 million. It was at best $3400 for this car, in 1968 for Godsake!!! It's 43 years old!!! Now on todays tech they are running 8 seconds!!! Yes, dumb fucks, reasearch '68 Hemi Dart Super Stock!!! 8 SECONDS!!! RO23 Dart!! 8 SECONDS!!!

  • I wanted to see the time :(

  • How does a cool video of a car going down the track end up in some of the most stupid comments I will never understand!

  • 500hp 429ci hemi?

    wtf lol

  • Nice. Very nice. As a BB Chevy man, that car is the epitome of Hemi Mopar. Got all the respect in the world for them. One of my good friends used to tow his '69 Hemi Roadrunner to the Osceola Dragstrip with his matching Hemi GTX, and it used to thump on cars, sometimes my '68 and '69 Camaros and '69 Vette, all 427s. Yes, I have all the respect in the world for real Hemi Mopars like this Dart. Sweet, very, very sweet. Thanks for the memories because them were the days!!!

  • what the fuck are you retards talking about . there is no reason to compare euros and muscle watch the video and enjoy euros are for fags anyway

  • I love DARTS

  • And some guy in my area has one... Under a tarp.... Rotting ... Trapped by 3 trailers and a shed......... Bastard

  • beautiful, beautiful

  • The most badass car built in the day.

  • Bugatti Veyron has NOT beat the record that Dart set in 1968, Stock Bugatti 1/4mile time is 10.6 @ 140mph. Hemi Dart 1/4mile time is 10.2 @ 138mph.

And -68 Hemi Dart is over 40 years old.

  • Comment removed

  • @ PAINTAANK Well that's a fast hemi :)

Not sure what you mean by 1968 Bugatti. The original Bugatti factory closed sometime in the late 1940's & never again made a production car. You mentioned skinny wire wheels & big fenders... the original Bugatti Type 35 cars are from 1924, not 1968. You might be looking at a fiberglass kit car replica of those early 1920's cars, but certainly not made by Bugatti in the 60's.

  • my grand pa had this car lost his license 6 times

  • The hemi darts were supposed to be good for 11second quarter milesout of the showroom.....No ford ever came near that....Shelby or otherwise....the 66 AC Cobra was only good for 12 second quarters

  • Shelby Cobras were street legal cars. These were drag only. They were sold with a signature promising not to drive it on the road because it literally had zero safety options and was 1/3 fiberglass...from the factory. With a 500hp hemi...from the factory. Ford Thunderbolts and Pontiac Superdutys are a closer comparison.

  • @PAINTANK """"500""""" There is one on ebay now with 740+. I guess Chrysler never told the exact amount. Wouldn't underestimate one of those, heheh.

  • @PAINTANK Factory hemi ford? Fiberglass, not aluminum? Awesome.

  • @PAINTANK However you could still drive them on the street and people still did. The aluminum nosed Fury's/Darts etc of 63-64 as well and the 65 Coronets.

  • @PAINTANK And Ford and GM wouldnt allow just anyone to buy there cars you had to be sponsored by them and they chose you. You had the money you could walk into any Mopar dealership and pick yourself up one. Gm got out of the game in 64 and didnt come back until 70, this whole GM was the greatest fad that has come about my GM lovers is a bunch of bs.

  • @DrMMHMD Um... do your research before you trying to prove people wrong, the 1964 Shelby Cobra did 10sec 1/4 mile at 138 mph.

  • @chevyman5436 there were no factory cars running 10 seconds son. With or without slicks added. Telling people to do research? I was there boy I don't need to do any research. Ive spent more time backing up race cars than you have going foward in one. And the 70 factory hemi cuda was detuned and a heavier car than the 68 hemi barracudas..Technically this is just my opinion, but the '70 was over rated for being a hemi car compared to some of the other slightly earlier hemi cars.

  • It's a real 1968 Hurst Hemi Dart at the Mopar Nationals in Rockingham a few years ago. The Hemi was shoehorned in so tightly that the master cylinder had to be offset. They were shipped to Hurst to be fine tuned and finished. It was just the largest engine Mopar had stuffed into the smallest, lightest car they made. No other company did this other than GM with 427 L88 Corvettes.

  • @PAINTANK Also in the glove box was a "disclaimer sticker" it said "To be used for straight line time trials, all expressed warranties are void". They also came with radio and windshield delete. Those were badass cars. Actually 1 other company did it also, the Sunbeam Tiger. It had a V8 shoe shoehorned into it. That was what gave Carrol Shelby the idea for his Cobra.

  • @surrynet Actuall Carrol Shelby approached Sunbeam about putting a V8 in the little car. He fitted it with a 260ci V8 , that was the inspiration for his famous Cobras.

  • @surrynet we know it as the Tiger...

  • @ProfessorIgor yes, you are right !!

  • i really like the power of american cars, but you have to admit that roads are not only straight....in a track there is no race with european supercars...your sport cars can't turn properly...but in a drag race you rule!and let me say that the old muscle cars are really incredible!

  • @scecini1 Guess you have never driven a Viper or the slightly slower less handling vette.? Vipers kill Proches and othereuro trash on a regular bassis not to mention they take them on the track too.

  • @dwc4343 I'm American, and anyone who calls fine German cars 'Eurotrash' is a complete moron! There are great American cars, and there are great European cars. End of story.

  • any idea what the stock Hemi Dart would pull in the 1/4?

  • @2bn442RCT back then they were 10 second beasts.

  • @2bn442RCT mid 10 sec.

  • I googled "1968 Bugatti" and threw up a little when I saw it.

  • My father had one brand new. Used to race it at Atco in Jersey. Unknowing how much it would be worth today he sold it back then.

  • that thing's a rocket!

  • looks like fun

  • Fast as fuck! Would beat a tuner anyday, not to mention a crappy ricer.

    RESPECT!

  • @leocarman even a little shitty supra or whatever the fuck those ricer burners jack off to! gotta love the dart!!! and gotta love MOPAR OR NO CAR!

  • does anybody know if this is a real surviving 68, super stock Dart?

  • You would have to spend your kids college funds on a Buick to make it so you could at least read the name on HEMI-DART as it run off from your Buick , like going to light speed on Star Wars. If the Buricks are soooo fast why don't they run with the roids in SS/A....huh??

  • last i knew grand nationals were pulling 30k for a top example car gnx 130k what are we looking at for a factory SS dart last one i saw for sale was 300k and as i understand it the GNX's only real prize was being the only GM car to be built faster than the corvette of the same year i could be wrong on that either way they are hot cars (GN GNX) but their is no a dart with a fiberglass front end light weight glass cant be much if any heavier than a gnx

  • the debate ends here, with this car and it's sister the Hurst Hemi Barracuda. They were and still are the fastest production car in the 1/4 ever produced. Many dismiss them as "production" because they were purpose built. The bottom line is that you had to buy them from a Chrysler dealership, and 109 lukcy people did just that. A Stage 1 GS ?? at least present us a FAST GM... Yenko Camaro ? Super Duty Lighweight Pontiac ? COPO Camaro.. ZL1 Vette ? the Hemi Dart is STILL faster than those

  • @ ProfessorIgor Couldnt agree more. Its like Tom Shaw, of the Muscle Car Review Magazine, said once "Chevrolet could built something like the Hemi Dar, but only Chrysler had the balls".

  • @ProfessorIgor I spank U .

  • Grascat, were you around in 68? I was. I was THERE.

  • Reminds me of a movie... "American graffiti"... You know... "Where were you at 62?"

  • The 68 Hemi Barracuda could run a 10.3 off the showroom floor. Wrong. It had F70-14 tires bias ply.... Grand Nationals were the fastest car built since the 60's. They scream and are V6 (Turbo). The fastest car ever built was also a Buick. 71 GS Stage 1.

  • @dfinkie who would take a hemi dart to the track with bias plys?a 68 dart or cuda with a set of slicks and open headers would and did run in the 10s....no dogpie grand national or old man hot rod buick would ever come close to 10s with slicks and open exhaust....nobody gives a shit about your red headed step child of a chevy and everybody knows hemis eat pansy ass buicks all day long.

  • Dont froget the all mighty SuperBird's 200 MPH on ovals, And the Brand X raping Wedge Motors XD

  • Uhh...that GNX didnt come out until late 70s...Get it right

  • Not disagreeing here but wasn't the GNX or even the Grand National pretty fast..bone stock? I had always heard that for the few years they were made that they were the fastest stock production cars made.Dunno tho...

  • gnx in the day was killing corvettes then gm decided they couldnt have that and took it out. gnx is a beast

  • European cars = having to deal with shitty electronics, let alone how much the shit costs to just maintain the car.

American muscle = cheap, reliable, better power/price ratio.

  • amen

  • @jmann114: Those cars are the hell not cheap...even for americans gas might meanwhile play a much more important role than in former times.

  • @jmann114 lol that's like comparing a M-16 and an AK-47.

  • @jmann114

Look at European cars from the 60's (Minor, Beetle, GT6 etc), they're even cheaper and more reliable, just not as fast.

If you're talking about modern Euro cars then go look at modern American cars, they're just as shitty.

No need to bash Euro stuff, it would make more sense to direct your comment at modern cars rather than European ones. They use no more electronics than American ones do.

  • Okay Guys: listen to my little story. When i was growing up my family didn't have a lot of money. So when i turned 17 years old my parents let me choose the family car. Can you believe it ? I went to the local Chevrolet Dealer to price an SS 396. they basically said here's the price kid now get out of here. My mom suggested I go to the DODGE DEALER and I did. It was a gold 340 Swinger with an auto tranny (not my choice) and a black vinyl top (dads request) it was a screamer and would go 140 mph

  • I'm 20 and i just found myself a hemi orange 72 340 swinger. Lumpy cam, slicks, and a 750 double pumper holley for the strip i'm running 11.9's at sealevel. and it's an auto car :) but boy would it be nice to have the money for a hemi car. i guess i'll settle for a crate engine and get some fender well headers!

  • and btw chrysler wedges are the most reliable and easy to maintain motors ever built ..IMO ofcourse.. i mean..what other motors offered external oiling, shaft based rocker arms and a skirted block .. mabey all of these or just some are the reason why chryslers are the #1 choice for all of the fuel cars?? idk just taking a shot in the dark here.

  • and BTW the hemi darts were the fastest cars ever made..bluepit is certainly correct about that..and dstratus97 is ALSO correct...you could purchase a hemi car back in the day that turned 10s = fastest production vehicle.. name another car that would run 10s all day with a lil tuning..plz do name one because iam wanting to learn sometrhings here..aside from what i already know..

  • Actually Bugatti veyron just beat the record held by dodge. The problem is its not a practical car like the dart was it only gets like 60 miles to a tank of gas. A 396 is no match for a hemi, or a wedge. Even mopar la sb outrun some of the chevy BB.

  • wish I had kept my 69 swinger. Only had a 225 but great car. you are correct about the hemi dart, 10s @ 133+mph out of the gate. NO other production car (normal production car) can match that. Only the veyron can out do that. Amazing car and is 40 years old at that.

  • The 68 Hemi Barracuda could run a 10.3 off the showroom floor. Of course it was a special package and they made less than 100 of them, but still enough to make it a production car.

  • i doubt a yenko camaro would walk all over any "A" bodied chrysler product with those big chrysler wedges .. and to be perfectly honest i have seen the small chrysler 340 darts eat 396 chevrolets for breakfast lunch and dinner..let alone a correct chrysler wedge or hemi in any "A" bodie..and for the comment on the 427 sohc motor ..NO!!.. do you even realize how far ahead of their time chrysler was back in the day?mabey thats why ALL fuel cars today STILL have big blown chryslers powering them

  • they technically are not blown chystlers anymore. I mean now they are all custom engines that use the HEMI idea from chryslter, now the slingshot dragsters of the 60's and 70's are true Mopar engines, but today they are not

  • I have only driven one hemi car and I feel it was gratuitously over powered. It was scary to drive and I think it is nuts that that engine was available to anyone who wanted it to drive on public streets. My hemi was a Charger which is larger and heavier than a Dart and it was still scary to really get down on. A real rush to drive, I can understand the following.

In a Dart the Hemi was insanity. Imagine a 500hp 429 in a sub-base model Falcon or a 427 tripower in a sub base Chevy II.

  • @PAINTANK dont compare your gm or ford garbage to any "muscle car era" chrysler product. Chrysler was so far ahead of their time back in those days in terms of performance and durability.

  • @PAINTANK why imagine it just do it

  • @PAINTANK I really wish you could talk to the punks I encounter who think Hemi is crap. Although I doubt their thick skulls could be penetrated by any ones opinion.

  • @PAINTANK I unno..I did the aprox 460-450 hp in my SRT-8 after mods, yeah you need to know what your doing when you low gear it and play with 450+ ponies, but that's part of the fun, you need to be able to control your beast.

  • a 71 dart wiht a 440 is the fastest muscle car ever built? i highly doubt that. even a 69 copo camaro all aluminum 427 would walk all over it.i do agree with the small car big engine thing but who wouldnt. im lovin this car though!

  • im just saying my dream 64 fairlane if i could build mine with a 427 sohc

  • i own a 71 dart with a 440 in it and it is one mean little car lot's of fun you cant beat a small car with a big engine with the hemi it was the fastest muscle car ever made .

  • Ah yes, the Dart... Of course, my favorite is still the Charger. I just love the look.

  • 1964 thunderbolt with 427 soch hands down

  • yes they are very fast. but the 68 hurst built hemi is also a 10 sec car well they say 10.50 light weight too they came stock as a drag car.

  • It's "sohc", not "soch". I'm sure that was just a typo.

  • they never built a thunderbolt with a SOHC engine... sorry.

  • The best muscle car ever made in America is indeed the 1968 Dodge Dart SS Hemi, if you can find a more badass car, I'll sell you my soul, the Bugatti is NOT a muscle car, it's just a really frickin' fast car. :)

  • Pretty sure that sophiagromit jackass isn't even old enough to drive yet, GO MOPAR!

I drive ford daily driver though lol.

  • dam that's a sexy machine right there i love darts

  • This is one bad ass car that Mr watson has and it will kick alot of GM and ford ass

  • wow who would spend a mill on a car that you cant afford to drive i would just drive my 69 dart that can be used for every day then spend that much on some polished up shit lmao but wat ever float syour boat i guess lol

  • Bugattis are better...what the F ever. Everybody reading this needs to Google "1968 Bugatti" and just look at the pathetic deathtrap that they passed off as a car.

Comparing a 1968 Dodge to a 2009 Bugatti is an asinine argument. A common mistake made by Eurotards who can't stop sucking on Ferrari tailpipes long enough to make a legitimate argument. Bugatti...whatever. Mopar or no car.

  • @PAINTANK F'in A right, man! Give me a S/S Dart or 'Cuda over some piece of Euro garbage any day! If you can turn, you're not going fast enough!

  • @PAINTANK caint forget about the ultimate areo dude still an american car!! it beat the bugattiiiiii but to me give me a classic ford or dodge any day

  • @PAINTANK Bugatti never made a car in 1968 dip shit. Chrysler is the worst american car manufacturer.

  • @kyleisreallycool Not a reply on Bughatti I know that the company is much older than 68 But you obviously don't have a clue as to who put most of the racing parts on the map .The first tunnel ram manifold was on the High and Mighty along with the first adjustable multi link rear suspension the first hood scoop All were from that company .Chrysler designed the tail fin that made Cadillac so famous. Not to mention the most successful drag racing engine the Hemi. All top fuelers have a version

  • Mopar's own enough said

  • Hey BUD!!! Wassup PAL!!! LOL

  • hey buds lol wass up dawg... buddy ol pal . lol mopar american old school muscle. i hope they shut down ford and gm this year.keep mopar alive keep it old school muscle.

  • Mopar or No car

  • It may be quick, yes, but it's still a piece of crap DART!!!

  • you are crazy bud. faster than the chevys and fords in its day . lol to find a real hemi dart not a clone there not cheap. you must be a ford or chevy guy like everyone else who gets beat down by the power of mopar the hemis hi revin 340s 1969s lol mopar anyday over any import or chevy or ford bud. thats why mopars are hard to get and worth big money ..i dont mean clone cars i mean matching numbers cars.

  • "Bud"... LOL. I'm surprised this trailer trash buffoon didn't call me 'Pal' instead! ALL AMERICAN CARS SUCK ASS!!!! The American car companies are failing BECAUSE their cars BLOW compared to foreign cars! FACE IT!

  • Well it sure isn't a Civic, that's for sure. I mean who wouldn't prefer a Honda when trying to win at drag racing in the 60s?

  • and im a guy who likes all cars just born and raised american muscle mopars all my life me and my dad have challengers all 340s 383s chargers dart swingers . a few chevys more mopars though. love the 340 rumble of our swinger 4 speed 391s posi hi reving small block scremer time. its 3097 lbs .

  • in the late 60s a 68 hemi dart whould beat a honda civic come on now . hemi hurst built 3150 lbs low 10s bone stock any little mods they will run in the 9s .

  • Like a Lamborghini, Ferrari, Yea because it would be really hard to build a car with a few hundred thousand dollars. In 1965 Dodge built a car that did 60 in 3.5seconds and weighed 3200lbs and cost $3100.00. I could go on and on. The new ZR1 Vette @100K SPANKED a $375.000 Ferrari and went 208mph right off the show room floor. The 400+k Aston Martin went 212mph. Any moron could build a 200mph car with 400K to work with maybe even you.

  • LOL all over a million dollars to beat a $100k Vette. Your taste in cars sucks. European supercars are overpriced sluts that need an IV filled with gold to keep them running. If you can't appreciate this car then you are cartarded and have no business in my video comments making fun of what was in it's time the baddest car in the world. In 1968 Bugatti's looked like louvered cocks you pompous ass. They were tapered bricks with huge fenders and skinny wire wheels so snort Hemi fumes loser.

  • I didn't say a 65 dodge I said IN 1965 dodge had this level of performance. My buddy had toyota pick up that would not climb a hill I could go up in my ford escort. RICE=SHIT A guy I work with has a brand new Nissan truck that sit 80% of the time in the shop TOTAL P.O.S.

  • You also said it cost $3100 . . . what fucking car are you talking about, or are you yet another dufus who likes to throw around numbers without any proof whatsoever. You could 'go on and on' . . . who couldn't while spouting mindless bullshit.

  • He actually gave the price for a basic Dodge dart GT from the factory, the price of this one was roughly 1000$'s give or take more.

  • The Bugatti costs a million, the Vette 100k. The Bugatti does NOT go ten times faster nor handle 10 times better. Do you own a Veyron? No, I thought not. Gimp. p.s. VW the parent company of Bugatti actually loses money on those ugly bugs. And I'd magine they would require re-tuning every 2000 miles. Put it in perspective before mouthing off!

  • How many 44 year old German or Japanese cars have you seen lately? yeah, thats what I thought!

  • I own a 1969 VW squareback, and have owned nothing but Mopars prior to the VW, I just wanna go on record as saying my 64 dart was so much more reliable, easier to maintain, cheaper, oh, and a fuck of alot faster. I regret not having stayed with Mopar

  • dude your stupid, why would you pay 10 times more money to go fast, your crazy, and a nazi

  • @sophiegromit Back then you could take a 1970 Hemi Challenger and run 10 seconds off the floor room, the bugatti veyron runs 10.1, it takes 16 cylinders and 4 turbos to get to that? Wow that's weak.

  • @chevyman5436.... the Bugatti runs a 9.95 if you do it right.

  • @buttersbrother1 you do it right with your bugatti and video tape it for us...

  • YES THEY DID, sorry max, they were stripped down, plexi windows, fiber front clip, legit factory drag cars, to the best of my knowlegde, white body's, and black primer on the hood and fenders, not capable of 10 flat due to major traction issues, 10.50-10.90 all day on stock tires,

  • you didnt run these "stock out of the box" anyway if you did it blew up

  • i see ur point, but you know where i was goin with this, my father worked for chrysler, BELIEVE ME, WHEN THESE CARS MADE IT TO THE DEALERSHIPS, THEY WERE BROKE IN, TIRES, CLUTCH, THROTTLE LINKAGE, LINE WORKERS ROLLED THE MUSCLE CARS FROM THE GARAGE DOOR, TO THE PARKING LOT, AND MOST OF THE TIME IN A HEAP OF TIRE SMOKE,

  • What could this do in the 1/4 mile stock

  • I'am a fan of all old american cars, including MoPar/Chrysler corp-cars, GM, Ford e.t.c, and yes all of them made fancy and cool cars, Chrysler did this car, it's so awesome, no doupt.

But, it was to good as a stock car against the other manufacturers, it would have been nice if there have been a more balance, like that the other manufacturers made similar engines, cars e.t.c that really could match up against a car like this STOCK.

In my oppinion, that would be very interresting, no doupt.

  • Problem is... when Dodge came out with this gutted out Hemi Dart, they were the only ones at the time trying to reign supreme on the 1/4 mile. Chevy and Ford were worried about road racing, oval track racing. Dodge was alone at the top of the mountain with this car. Ford and Chevy didn't want to try to compete with this terror. They couldn't. Mustang ? Corvette ? Camaro ??? I serously doubt it.

  • Well, if Ford were about to build a challenger to this car, it could in theory be a 427 SOHC equipped Falcon 65-, or anything similar, if that could have happend.

That is something that could prove to be a real challenger to the Hemi Darts, i think.

But, it never happend, but who is to say it's impossible to rebuild a Falcon to make it look like a dragcar from those years, with realistic parts, like 427 SOHC engine, and paint it in tradidional drag style? i think that would be a good opponent.

  • I'm not saying that Ford or Chevy had nothing that could compete. They just didn't want too. But you're right... a Falcon is lightweight enough you beef up the frame and front suspension enough, slap a big enough motor in it, yeah it could give the dart a run. But from the factory in 1968... nothing could compete with this monster.

  • i know.

The Hemi Dart is one nasty car, quick as hell, they even looked nasty in their shapes, and with the big scoop, the look is complete.

  • Best car ever made!

  • This was an amazing car you could buy stock

  • Yep There were a limited number of this with the 426 hemi which was actually built by hurst performance and they were specifically designed to do 1/4 mile times of 10 sec or less straight from the factory that was in 1968! gotta love the boys at Chrysler they know how to make an engine :D

  • i grew up with these bad boys

  • AMERICAN MUSCLE not new toy bastard

  • are you on crack or you just stupid?

  • lol try and find one .. these cars bone stock were a drag strip menace. 10 secs flat. bone stock. any upgrades damm running 9s these hemi darts eat fords and chevys all night long.

  • yeah I know I love darts, although there not to hard to find anymore becuz on Mr. Norm in Chi-town. look up dodge dart gss and its will be under auto blog, and you will see the most beautiful hemi dart for sale, but the last comment wasn't about the dart, it was about this guy named LucyWALKneverALONE. look farther down the comments, its under spam and he said something about some crapy motor he liked, but yeah google Dodge dart gss and its the most bad ass dart i have ever seen

  • to bad it's a piece of shit

  • LOL baddest car ever.

  • Thought process of Dodge in 1968 "lets take the baddest motor we've got and put it in the smallest car we've got" it turned out pretty well.

  • my dad had a 1979 dodge dart that ran low 9's

  • I seem to recall very few of these were ever made. They didnt come with AC, a heater, or back seat. I dont think they even came with a factory warranty.

But I guess thats exactly where you want to start building a race car

  • In 68 they built a total of 80 of them, no warranty, not even road legal, they had a sticker classifying them as not for road use. They came with primer only, no paint, and you had to collect from the factory.

I think the Dodge team had a bit too much to drink one night..."Hey guys, hic, why dont we take that 426 hemi and shoehorn it into that dart! Hic, That'll show GM and Ford a thing or 2! hic"... I LOVE THESE CARS!

  • The lightweight Hemi darts and Barracudas were not sold to just anybody, and you had to take delivery at the factory. The cars were delivered to their new owners in primer. That being said, I saw one of these beasties for sale in 1982 or 1983 in Pennsylvania and the thing had obviously been used on the street....

  • Nice

  • Sounds so beautiful...

  • A full tilt hemi does have a nice tone.

  • 1969 1/2 Road Runner M-code factory street terrorizing road beast.

    My favorite that is.

  • Kay. So what *is* the best muscle car ever made?

  • '67 Ford 427 Shelbly Cobra '70 Plym Hemi Cuda '70 Dodge Hemi Challenger '70 Plym 440+6 Cuda '70 Chev LS6 Chevelle '69 Yenko, Baldwin Motion and COPO Camaros '69 Dodge Charger '69 Pontiac GTO Conv '69 Ford 428 GT500 Mustang Conv '71 Plym Hemi Cuda Conv '67 Ford Mustang KR500 '67 Ford 427 Shelby Cobra Super Snake '08 Dodge Viper ACR '07 Chev Z06 Corvette '08 Ford Mustang KR500 '02 Chev LS7 Camaro

  • @skoczzy the 1 your seeing in this vid ha the dodge dart hemi gss is the ultimate muscle car.

  • That Dart is so bad it got my dick hard... I am rotissering a '62 Dart, 413 with 620 HP, when it is done I am doing a 68 Dart just like this one, good god that shit is AWESOME! RO23 Hemi Dart running SS/AA is 8.20's in the 1/4, fucking awesome cars, I don't give a fuck what anyone says, AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

  • I demand you send me video of that sweet 62 when it's done! Badass.

Have you considered the long ram intakes from a 300F? Just for the sheer sexiness of it all. I don't know why but I have always liked those.

  • Well, it will be a while before it is done. Yes, I would love a longram setup, but have you seen the price on that? $5-$7K for the complete setup. Definatly would run that on the 413..

  • Nothing like a "Factory Lightweight"!!!!! Nice!!

  • "In 1968 you could walk into..." a dealership if you were Ronnie Sox and have the factory give you one free. Otherwise, you could forget it. 99.9% of the hemi darts/barracudas are clones. The originals all went to recognized mopar racers, many of whom (lindamood...ramchargers) were Chrysler engineers anyway. General public my butt.

  • That one is real.

  • if you had the money i think you could buy one...

  • The Lightweight Hemi Dart was an awsome car. But as far as just plunking down the money at the dealership, NO. You needed connections even if you had the cash!!!

  • That video brings a smile to my face that is the ultimate muscle car.

  • The 68 Hemi Dart was a factory race car. It came with slicks and no paint and was illegal to drive on the street. They had to rework the shock tower on the passenger side of the engine bay in order for the Hemi to fit. Also they had to install the engine from under the car with the C member attached. The 440 6 pack option was not available til 69 1/2. 426 Hemi was rated at 425 hp, 440 6 pack at 390, the 440 at 375 and the 383 at 335 in the magnum version.

  • it wasnt ''illegal'' it said not for street use, they came with no warranty, some were street legal, just not recomended

  • For something to be considered road legal means it has to pass a government safety check. Brakes, tires, lights, etc. Anything can be made street legal. These cars were shipped complete as race cars without California safety requirements. It doesn't mean buyers didn't quickly bring the cars up to safety qualifications. Remember, back in the day these racers were sometimes driving these cars to the race tracks.

  • hemi dart will kick the veyrons ass you do have to remember how much stuff the bugattis engine has to make 1001 hp right? four turbochargers and a w16 the hemi dart a v8 already making 600 hp and like someone said with little mods to the engine like cams, intake, headers, carbs it can make just about as much hp as the veyron could be more. the veyron is a great car but the hemi dart is too much for it. mopar or no car.

  • plus the hemi is in an afordable price range, unlike the veyron, 1.7 million dollars!, imagine what you can do to that hemi with a fraction of that 1.7 mill.

  • yeah, they came down this year, the Hurst Hemi's are only worth about $400k instead of $600k !!! very affordable indeed !! I'm stuck with my measley $30k `68 Road Runner.

  • 400K!!!!!

im talking a bout the engine, good old standard 426hemi with 425 hosres off the factory floor (STOCK STANDARD). it would fit perfect in the road runner (if it aint got one)

if i put a hemi in my 41 willys it would just flip over when i gass it :-) only thing that stoped me was the waiting list to get one from an importer

  • I'd kill (well almost) for a '68 road runner. Count your blessings friend.

  • you would be well into the 4 second range...and the 1968 hemi dart would do low 10s from the factory....all MOPAR!!!

  • how many are documented original for both dart and hemi. Still holds record for production 1/4 time. 10.7 i believe

  • Reeks of masculinity.
