Wow! I love the way the keyboards stack up at the end on that unison run: can't even hear the individual entrances. Were you using gauges on the timpani or just going by feel? I'm in awe at how you nail those interval changes so consistently.
@Gustavling I do use the gauges, but only as a visual reference. Mostly relying on muscle memory for all of those intervals... Memorizing the distance to each interval on the pedal.
truly amazing i just got started in pit and i don't think we'll ever sound this amazing but it inspires me to work my butt off and sound good like you guys! by the way i love the swively chair for timpani that makes you look even more awesome!!
Hey man, you are rediculous at timpani, just earlier i was listening to 2004 cavaliers, and just amazed by your playing. I plan to play timpani for a drum corp this summer (09') and look forward to everything. Nice job!
I'm a high school senior, and I really really want to be in a drum core's pit. I'm mainly a mallet player, but I can play the pit instruments. What do I have to do now?
Go to auditions! The best way to know what to do is go to a clinic/audition to figure out what you need to get done in order to reach your goal. See if any corps have anything going on in December. If it's too late for you to attend one, go watch for a few hours. Learn lots of exercises from various, too. Just keep playing and keep interested.
I'm currently working on my own arrangement of this for my High School's pit to do. This is what inspired me. this video is absolutely amazing. and I agree with Ihsdrummer2010. i would kill miltiple times to have my school's pit sound like this. haha
Man, I was just listening to the 03 show yesterday and thinking about how awesome your part was during the percussion feature. You're definitely one of the best timpanists I've heard in DCI.
No playing in the member gym!

Hey man - great vid. Brings back some very fond memories! Where/when was this shot? I like to keep records for my own edification...
PS: Do I hear the faint sound of a cell phone turning off in the beginning? Hmm...

Hey man! great to hear from you. It was shot like the monday of finals week, so we weren't in Denver yet, I don't think.
And yes, that's Alan's cell phone turning off. :)

That timpani part was impressive. I love how you changed notes without it even sounding like a gliss. great job man.
