"A reason to have the gun" my reason is my second amendment right. The "technical" reason there is car registration is that---though the real reason is money---the roads are public. The constitution does not allow citizens the right to bear arms. It states: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." This means that a militia to defend the well being of citizens should be formed, using whatever armament.
It does not mean that anybody who wants a gun should get one, much to the surprise, I'm sure, of those people who thought that. I went through all the License requirements for a CCW permit and purchase license and what it basically boils down to is more tax for big government. Check out the overall violent crime rate. It's higher than it was 11-12 years ago. Just because guns were used once in a massacre and the hasnt been a one since, does not by any means indicate the effectiveness of gun control.

hey Bozo. Overall crime rate is irrelevant - it's crime with guns that count since that is what we're measuring. In New York, violent crime by gun was only 15% of overall crime in the 1950's. That jumped to 75% in the latter half of the 20th century. You miss the point of probability - less guns = less likelihood of them falling into the wrong hands.

The constitution does not allow citizens the right to bear arms. It states: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." This means that a militia to defend the well being of citizens should be formed, using whatever armament.

It does not mean that anybody who wants a gun should get one, much to the surprise, I'm sure, of those people who thought that. There has been too many misinterpretations of our laws, and it's time that they were interpreted correctly, and we ban citizens who are not part of a regulated militia the right to carry guns and other fire-arms.

By definition, every able bodied citizen is a member of the milita.

Pokeman, yes, indeed my definintion used the terms 'army' and 'military'. A militia is a military force composed of ORDINARY CITIZENS like you and I, In the event that Our standing military is too far strung or otherwise occupied to adequately defend America. None the less, the Second Amendment says "the right of THE PEOPLE(not the militia)shall not be infringed."

I am sure that an LA thug, who is quite able bodied, would consider himself a part of any militia, let alone an organized one with only the intent to protect the people. Quite the contrary. The problem is that our society is very me-oriented. T People are too concerned with how something may affect their selfish right to do something "fun", in the interest of making the country marginally safer to live in.
