@dadvoc666 I'm a retro gamer and I review retro games on YouTube and what do you think I use to record those? Good God man this is not a shitty game it's just old. There's a difference.
ANY WAY to get satelite tv WITHOUT paying Direct tv your whole paycheck, on your tv??? I bought that govt. mandated switch over box just to see how many tv channels I could get with it, without using my satelite, boy does it suck!!! In the olden days we could get the cable guys to hook us up for the cost of a six pack. Why can we not get around paying direct tv, dish network etc.. on our tv sets????
@blowupuate13 Nope. Because your cable company encodes their signal so you can't decode it with off the shelf devices like a standard TV Tuner. You usually have to get the box from your Cable company unless they use QAM witch is what these TV Tuners can decode but pretty much none of them do.
Hey, could you please tell me what software you use with the card? I've got the Sapphire version. Haven't been able to find any software that works with it since upgrading to 7 from XP. VLC gives me video on the composite (yellow) pin, but nothing else, and no other programs work at all. Kinda hard to find other people using this card to ask questions of!
@nikolassj Some have better video quality than others, some have hardware mpeg encoding processors so when you record video (esp HD video) it barley uses your CPU, others don't work in Windows 7 x64 so well. All things to keep an eye out for.
@nolabush25 No there would be no way to get HDTV from another source with only Composite and S-Video inputs you would need one with Component input like the Hauppage HD PVR box.
i got windows vista and i want to be able to useone of thses so how do you install the tv turner in your pc basically where does it go i dont know anything about computers so yea i wouldnt know where to begin putting that and you skipped it in your vid so yea where did it go????
ive got my video capture usb device which works pretty good, but it doesent record my saturn which im gutted about. this looks like a pretty nice card though man.
I know this may sound like a dumb question Jake, but if I buy the same capture card would it work in 32 bit XP?Or would I need a certain one for a 32 bit OS?
I know that card is new but the purple thing looks like what my brother got back in 1998 when he got his TV card. His card was an ATI All in One Wonder but the real problem with having that back in 98 was that CPUs and hard-drives were so slow back then and there was 4GB file limit which really didn't help as you could only record in RGB back then as well. Technology has really come along since then and so have the prices on cards.
Yeah, but he mentions (In the Afterburner vid iirc) that he has to use the VCR to to get footage off the Genny, you'll notice some grainyness (not from compression artifacting) and occasional tape glitches/tracking problems. (less noticable if you're not watching in HD)
You could even use the capture card to watch TV if you have digital cable or satellite. Of course, the cheap-ass that I am, I don't have such a thing, but I want one. Maybe if I just save my money and get an Aiptek HD camcorder...
Excellent score on that. I know you're stoked to see that it's better than the one that you've got now. Looking forward to seein the systems hooked up to that beast :D
The real deal is always best. Cool capture device. That is a slick interface. Reminds me of an ATI All-In-Wonder I used to have back in the Widows 98 days lol. It had a remote and all that as well. Awesome video man I look forward to seeing game footage.
I have an ole All in wonder 9700pro and 9800pro vid cards, I think both are not working, but all the stuff that came with it the wires and tv changer etc can be use for something I'm sure. I'm thinking me running them on a 300watt ps in my dell 8200 probably killed them. Now I'm running a bfg 6200OC 256mb card.
I have a really old crappy card and wanted to buy a new one last year. I run Vista 64 bits, and got a card they said would work fine, well it didn't work well at all, returned it and got some custom drivers by some pissed of x64 users and they were pretty well with my 10 year old card!
I still want to get a new one at some point though, just a bit fearfull for trying out another...
ffs, I have to click on show all comments to see everyones comments on EVERY VIDEO and sometimes when I change pages :S YouTUbe is fucking up big time w/ this lame shit. I've saved these changes about 14 times now and still NOT BEING SAVED FFS. ah well time to enjoy another MN12BIRD video
I hear you this sucks... I'm running Windows 7 too and I have to get a new TV tuner. Mine (ATI TV Wonder 450 ) will work for a couple mins and then it says it has a low bit rate and shuts down media center.... And my old 450 has the same issue with RF (atari, sega) in xp... Great vid man... I'm glad im not the only person having issue in win 7 with this... After all this is said and done I'll have some more vids up too...
Luckily, my TV Tuner that came with my Pentium 4 computer still works on my new quad core computer with Vista.
I have a Hauppage WinTV PVR PCI II
I actually use it for recording games for playthroughs here on youtube sometimes. Although since I don't have Media Center, I have to use DScaler, which is a free program that displays and records games.
Hauppage are also great TV Tuners I was considering one of theirs and this ATi 650 I heard both I was looking at were good but someone who had Windows 7 64-bit has the ATi so I knew it would work for sure.
I get CBC hd over the air off of channel 5 from Toronto. Perfect Picture quality. Nice TV Tuner. I should pick one up soon, better quality than filming the screen lol.
Most capture devices/TV Tuners are not HD and don't have HDMI. First off HDMI is encrypted so you can't record most content from HDMI and secondly HD capture devices cost hundreds of dollars.
Yeah I've only seen one too and it was about the same price. Even then I think it only had component not HDMI. If there are ones with HDMI they would be crazy expensive professional gear and like I said most HDMI sources like Bluray is encrypted so you cant record the HD signal anyway.
That's nice. There is nothing wrong with either but modern ATi cards like the 4800 series are untouchable in their price range. The 4870 is the most common gaming card sold today hands down. I've had and liked both but right now if I needed a gaming card it would be a 4870 or 4890 no questions asked. ATi has really improved this year with the 4800 series so if you think they suck from several years ago and haven't looked at the new stuff then you don't know what you're talking about.
Bringing in TV or other video sources to watch on your PC or record. I would use it to hook up a video game console and record the footage for my videos.
So if I had the basic cable from the wall going into an RF modulator, which was going into this card, I could watch the regular tv channels?
Bernstein127 5 months ago
@Bernstein127 You don't even need the RF modulator just screw the cable right into the card and yes you can watch all the regular channels.

so if i plug my coaxial cable from my digital cable service into it i can watch all of my 900 channels on it?

@blowupuate13 Nope. Because your cable company encodes their signal so you can't decode it with off the shelf devices like a standard TV Tuner. You usually have to get the box from your Cable company unless they use QAM witch is what these TV Tuners can decode but pretty much none of them do.

Hope Sega stuff works, several other people have had problems with it too with capture cards, even via a modded system with S-Video.
(Classic Game Room HD has to run everyting through the VCR first before it'll work -which causes significant loss in quality)
