It was that, and other things too, including a dirty carb, and a cracked plastic diaphragm cover on the side (mine's a 1996, and is a different carb than those on the early SR400 or 500s, and the later ones... 1988-2000 or so, if my memory is correct).
Same thing happened to my sr400. It was the fuel filter for me. Don't know if its the same for u?
