At Silverstone and going on to finish 5th, in his rookie season, is impressive. 2003 he was again very fast in what was probably only the 2nd or 3rd best car (behind the Williams and possibly Ferrari). The 2004 car was bad, yet he still got pole at Silverstone and a race win at Spa. When he got the fastest car in 2005, he was far and away the fastest driver, let down by terrible reliability. He was right up there in 2006 also, despite the Mclaren not being the best that year.
well Nuvolari was one of the greatest ever, some would even say THE grearest driver ever, his miracle win against impossible odds in Nurburgring 1935 is proof enough
when it comes to raw speed Raikkonen has no peer in the 00's
@McLarenMercedes I dont agree with that at all. How do you reckon he had no peer in terms of speed? The only year he was really fast was 2005. And that year he had by far the fastest car.
And i never get why people seem to think Schumacher didnt have amazing raw speed. In my opinion he was well ahead of Kimi in terms of raw speed. Look at their relative performances to massa in 06 and 07. Micahel trounced him, Kimi struggled. Micheal was way faster than him. Kimi was good, not great.
@samsemtex The 2006 Ferrari tended to oversteer, which is what suits Raikkonen and Schumacher but NOT Massa. The 2007 car was the opposite; it understeered, which is why Raikkonen and Massa seemed to be about equal in terms of speed on numerous occasions.
The 2008 and 2009 cars both did not suit Raikkonen either, and he struggled to get the heat into the front tyres of the 2008 car hence his poor qualifying that year.
Raikkonen has ALWAYS been fast, qualifying the 2001 Sauber 7th at (tbc)
