The problem is that Able Turner (Sam Jackson's character) is a deeply unlikeable guy and he knows it. He is jealous of the husband, and wants the love of a wife for himself. Able's felt sense of unlikeability, keeps him single after the loses his wife and lonely. He hides behind his badge rather than look at himself, and grow. Perhaps he needed more time to heal, before returning to work. A superior officer would know the loss of a spouse is hard, and that time to regroup is necessary.
I'm glad to hear he died at the end, but I wish it was more gruesome than just being shot. If it were me, I would kidnap him, tie him up, and torture him until he flatlines, then I'll bring him back to life, and repeat the process until he admits he was wrong and begs for me to kill him, then I'll cut off his face, and stuff his torso with a hose, and put enough oxygen in him for him to explode, then clean up his remains and dump them in the ocean

The problem is that Able Turner (Sam Jackson's character) is a deeply unlikeable guy and he knows it. He is jealous of the husband, and wants the love of a wife for himself. Able's felt sense of unlikeability, keeps him single after the loses his wife and lonely. He hides behind his badge rather than look at himself, and grow. Perhaps he needed more time to heal, before returning to work. A superior officer would know the loss of a spouse is hard, and that time to regroup is necessary.
